Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 956: Chapter 956: Sneaking Behind to Snitch

”Dr. Ma, what are you thinking about?”

After calling Ma Mei several times, Ma Mei suddenly snapped back to reality, ”Sorry, Director, what did you just say?”

”Focus,” Yan Ye glanced at Ma Mei, ”We must take responsibility for every life, no matter who the person is.”

Knowing she was at fault, Ma Mei quickly nodded.

The surgery continued, and after about three hours, once the main part was essentially complete, Yan Ye examined the situation and turned his head to Lei Linxuan, saying, ”The anastomosis of the small vessels, closing the chest—are these a big problem for you?”

”Teacher Yan, I...” Lei Linxuan hesitated.

”Director Yan, let me do it,” said Ma Mei.

”Dr. Ma would naturally have no problem,” Yan Ye spoke, ”but I hope to give an intern a chance.”

Ma Mei frowned but said nothing.

”If you are not sure, then forget it,” Yan Ye’s gaze shifted to An Hao, ”How about you?”

”I can do it,” An Hao said confidently. She took Yan Ye’s place and lowered her head, focusing intently on the suturing.

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, An Hao completed the suturing.

Regarding An Hao’s suturing, Yan Ye had only two words to say: ”Perfect!”

After the surgery ended and they walked out of the operating room, the Dean stood anxiously at the door. Upon seeing Yan Ye come out, he immediately came over to inquire about the situation, ”Professor Yan, how did the surgery go?”

”It went smoothly. The patient will need close observation postoperatively, I will come back to issue medical orders,” Yan Ye said.

”I knew it, the surgery was bound to be a success with you at the helm,” the Dean said gratefully, shaking Yan Ye’s hand, ”Many thanks!”

The Dean went to the ward to look after his father. Yan Ye turned to his two students, saying, ”Any questions about the surgery we did today? Did you both understand everything?”

”Understood,” An Hao and Lei Linxuan said in unison.

”Good, if you understood,” Yan Ye nodded, then continued, ”You haven’t done your graduation thesis yet, right? After this surgery, you could try to explore it and write a paper. It would be very helpful for your graduation!”

”Okay,” An Hao and Lei Linxuan responded.

”If you have any questions, feel free to ask me anytime,” Yan Ye said.

..........................................

In the Dean’s office.

Sitting opposite the Dean, Ma Mei spoke indignantly, ”Dean, this matter does not comply with the regulations! A student who has just started their internship directly participated in a surgery. You are too indulgent towards Professor Yan. He is too bold, letting an undergraduate student take up the scalpel and get involved in surgery directly. Normally, our cardiothoracic surgeons can’t even enter this field without five or six years of experience in other departments! Is she exempt just because she is Professor Yan’s student?”

”Are you saying Yan Ye let his intern participate in the surgery?” the Dean asked incredulously.

”Yes! Opening the chest, anastomosing small vessels, and so on...” Ma Mei was so angry just thinking about it.

”I saw the sutured wound; it looked technically very good,” the Dean wasn’t angry about an intern’s direct involvement in his father’s surgery, ”For an undergraduate to achieve this is to say that Yan Ye’s mentoring has been very successful.”

”Dean! Our interns are already whispering about this. There are a lot of complaints about Professor Yan. Those two interns should be rotating to other departments by now, shouldn’t they? They can’t occupy this position permanently. I suggest we have An Hao intern in General Surgery for a while. It’s always better for a surgeon to have broader experience, right?” Ma Mei could hardly wait to get An Hao sent away as quickly as possible.
