Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 964: Chapter 964 Onset of an Illness

”Where did you submit your work?”

”To ’The Road of Medicine.’” To be honest, she felt very apprehensive.

But Teacher Cheng told her to believe in herself, that her paper would definitely get published.

”I’m going to submit mine too,” An Hao told her, ”tomorrow.”

”Oh. I hope you succeed.”

”You too.”

The two chatted for a bit, and then drowsiness set in, and they both dozed off.

Early the next morning, An Hao went to the post office to submit her manuscript.

If nothing went wrong, she would receive a reply within a week.

Actually, before sending it off, Yan Ye was quite confident; An Hao didn’t hold much hope that her own paper would be selected for publication.

What was important was that she had learned a lot during the process.

But what happened next truly shook her up.

She had never anticipated how things would unfold.

After leaving the post office, An Hao returned to the military compound.

Zhang Yun had asked a guard to pick her up and take her home before, but she had been too busy revising her paper to accept.

Now that she finally had some free time, she had to go back and see how things were.

Sometimes, she really felt like she wasn’t doing a good job as a daughter-in-law.

She didn’t just seldom see her in-laws; in the last six months, she barely visited her father and brother as well.

She planned to make up for it during the winter break, to stay in the village for a while and spend quality time with her family.

An Hao went to the market, bought two fish, and some vegetables. Today was the weekend, and she was going back to cook a meal for her father-in-law and mother-in-law.

To give her mother-in-law a break.

By the time she got home, it was already noon.

Zhang Yun had already started preparing busily. Seeing An Hao return was a surprise to her.

”Not busy today?”

”Yeah. I’ve finished submitting the paper, now just waiting for the result in a week,” An Hao said as she changed her clothes, put on an apron, and went into the kitchen to help.

”That’s good. Today is your father’s birthday. I wanted to have Xiaoliu pick you up this morning, but your father wouldn’t let me; he said your paper was more important.”

After Zhang Yun mentioned this, An Hao immediately felt guilty, ”It’s all my fault. I can’t believe I forgot Dad’s birthday.”

”It’s alright. We never really celebrated it before. These past few days, your dad has been feeling a bit unwell, not in a good mood. So I thought we’d celebrate his birthday to cheer him up,” Zhang Yun said while continuously busy picking and washing vegetables.

”What’s bothering him? Is he feeling tightness in his chest again? Is his breathing not smooth?”

”Yes. But it’s nothing serious. Xiaoye just saw him a couple of days ago, gave him some medicine to keep taking.”

Since Yan Ye has already seen him, there naturally wouldn’t be any serious problems.

Plus, it’s now winter, the season when cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are most prevalent, that’s why Ning Yibin was feeling uncomfortable.

”Take more care of yourselves, Dad. Qin Jian and I are not home often; if it really comes down to it, let the guard Xiaoliu stay in. If there’s an emergency, we’ll feel more at ease with him here.”

”That’s a good idea.” Actually, Ning Yibin’s heart condition had flared up the day before, not too severely. After taking some medication and lying down a while, it passed.

Thankfully, it was caught early; had it been any later, the outcome would have been unthinkable.

This truly shocked Zhang Yun as well, who had been living in fear every day since then.

The guard Xiaoliu had to stay close to Ning Yibin at all times no matter what.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law discussed Ning Yibin’s health for half the day, and the cooking was almost done.

Ning Yibin loved the red-braised fish that An Hao made, so she had specially prepared it with great care for him.

Just as they set a full table of dishes, Ning Yibin returned home.
