Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 363: Chapter 363 Deliberately Concealed Matters

Qin Feng lost all shame with the sight of food, took it, and sat down without politeness to eat. While eating, she asked, ”I heard you are high-ranking officials? Why have you come to our home?”

These words were not welcoming, which made Zhang Yun unhappy, but since Qin Feng had started the conversation, Zhang Yun saw an opportunity to lead the conversation and perhaps uncover some unexpected information.

”We’ve come to repay a kindness. Many years ago, a person named Li Yueping did us a great favor, but we cannot find her now. Hearing from Qin Jian that your mother is Li Junping, we came to see if perhaps Li Yueping had changed her name?”

At these words, Qin Feng happily exclaimed, ”Then you’ve come to the right place, you don’t need to look for Li Yueping to repay your debt, finding Li Junping will do.”

Zhang Yun’s eyelids twitched, ”Why is that?”

After finishing one piece, Qin Feng reached for another and said, ”Li Yueping was my aunt. My aunt died a long time ago!”

At this moment, Zhang Yun felt completely assured.

It was very likely that the children had been switched!

The Li family had been so warm and kind to her back then, especially Li Yueping, who had been wholeheartedly good to them, even stewing chicken and butchering meat; it turns out, they had switched her child then.

But how was the swapping done?

She distinctly remembered seeing her own son being born, how could he have been switched?

Zhang Yun and Ning Yibin exchanged glances, tightly holding each other’s hands. The truth had become clear, and now they just needed to force Li Junping to tell the real story.

Li Junping was cooking in the kitchen, while Qin Jian was chopping firewood.

Fearing that Qin Jian might grow suspicious, she told him about his birth and the things that had happened at that time, how he almost died from a fever as a child, and how Qin Ru Hai had carried him sixty miles through the mountains overnight to the county hospital to seek treatment.

She was telling these emotional stories here, unaware that Qin Feng had already sold them out on the other side.

She recounted everything about Li Yueping’s death from illness, and also informed them that only she and her younger brother Qin Fen knew the secret, purposely kept from Qin Jian.

However, they never knew why.

At noon, Qin Ru Hai came back from the fields, and the meal was served. Seeing the presence of the Ning couple, even the usually composed Qin Ru Hai felt uneasy.

Nevertheless, seeing no particular reaction from the couple, he tried to appear calm as well.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was lively. Ning Yibin, who was an old investigative soldier, could tell that the Qin couple was inwardly panicking.

The topic of children was a minefield they were deliberately trying to avoid.

Zhang Yun simply couldn’t keep up the act and directly threw a bombshell at Liu Junping, ”You really are fortunate, having both a son and a daughter. A full house with children and grandchildren to enjoy family bliss in the future. It’s just a pity for my child...”

She stopped mid-sentence, waiting for Li Junping to ask her.

”What happened to your child? Commander Ning is a high-ranking officer, and you are his wife; surely there couldn’t be a mistake with your son, right?” Li Junping—stared with wide eyes at Zhang Yun.

”Yes. My son had always been excellent, and I spent my life nurturing him. Unfortunately, he had a congenital heart disease and passed away from a sudden cardiac event a few years ago. We couldn’t save him...” Zhang Yun said, her eyes welling up with tears.

Liu Junping’s chopsticks clattered to the floor, and she froze for a long time.
