Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 359: Chapter 359: The Old Drunkard’s Intentions

The Autumn Festival arrived in the blink of an eye, and it coincided with the weekend break, so An Hao packed some things and prepared to go home.

The city was not very far from home; it was just over an hour’s drive to the town.

An Hao had bought some cakes and bread in the city the day before, planning to take them home for her father and An Ping to try. Unexpectedly, as soon as she exited the university gates, she encountered the Ning Family parents and Qin Jian waiting for her there.

Seeing her come out with her bags, Qin Jian naturally stepped forward to help her carry them, ”Let’s go, we’re going home together.”

”Together?” An Hao looked at the Ning Family parents, puzzled, and whispered to Qin Jian, ”They’re not going to follow us home, are they?”

Qin Jian nodded, ”Yes, together. Hearing that you were going home, they also wanted to visit and said it was a good opportunity to take a break.”

From Qin Jian’s words, An Hao realized that there was more to the Ning Family couple’s visit than met the eye.

It was probably that the Ning Family couple wanted to find a way in through Qin Jian’s home.

An Hao got into Commander Ning’s car and set off for the village.

Along the way, Zhang Yun seemed in very good spirits. The scenery along the road was beautiful, with tall poplars and green willows lining the straight highway. As the wind blew, the poplar leaves rustled and the willow branches swayed gently.

”Thirty years ago, who could have seen a scene like this? Back then, it was all barren slopes. Although the village was also shaded by green trees, the roads were nowhere near as good as they are now,” Zhang Yun couldn’t help but lament.

”Indeed. Back then, when I was leading the troops on maneuvers in the countryside, I hadn’t been home for months. You were about to give birth and rode a whole day in a bullock cart to see me. Do you know? I was both happy and distressed. Then, just two days after reaching the unit, you went into labor. It hurt for three days and nights. Seeing you almost die, I was scared to death. I even thought to myself, what would I do if you died?” The old Commander was still emotional recalling the old times.

”Being a military wife isn’t easy. And being a female soldier is even harder,” Zhang Yun remarked.

”Didn’t you give birth in a hospital?” An Hao immediately seized upon the key point in the conversation between the two.

”No,” Zhang Yun shook her head, ”When I gave birth to Ning Bo, it was in the middle of the night, and Old Ning was leading the troops in that simulated combat. I was alone at home. I had never had a child before, and I had no experience. Seeing blood running down my trouser leg, my legs went weak. In that state, I managed to walk more than two miles in the middle of the night to find a doctor. But I didn’t find one and came across a kindhearted family. I was nearly done for at that point, but luckily, a member of the household was up for a late-night bathroom break and saw my condition. They quickly arranged for me to stay at their house where they took care of me and I gave birth to the child. Later, we moved back to the city. It was two years before conditions improved and when we wanted to thank that family for their kindness, we couldn’t find them anymore.”

”Some time ago, your uncle and I went to Panshui Village and knocked on doors for a long time, trying to find that family’s only daughter. Sadly, we heard she had also passed away from illness. It’s a great pity,” Ning Yibin sighed deeply.

The benefactor had passed away!

Gone with the benefactor, perhaps, were untold stories that no one knew.

Now, Zhang Yun was convinced in her heart that Qin Jian was her son, but she vividly remembered giving birth to Ning Bo, who was sleeping in her arms all that time.

How could such a situation occur?
