Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1628 - 1629: Flattery

If you miss him, just contact him—this saying suits Cheng Su perfectly. She and Qi Taiguo chatted on the phone for a full half-hour, and if Qi Taiguo hadn’t rushed off to a meeting, she probably wouldn’t have wanted to hang up.

As Cheng Su walked out of the study, she was greeted by Old Master Cheng’s mischievous smile: ”What were you talking about for so long? Missing your man?”

Cheng Su blushed. This old man, isn’t he just happy when he’s teasing people?

”You’ve had your tea with the wives happily today, so now you’re teasing your goddaughter, aren’t you?” Cheng Su said jokingly.

Old Master Cheng laughed heartily: ”You girl, you’re not so thin-skinned.” Fearing Cheng Su might really get upset, he added, ”Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Young people are all like this.”

Cheng Su accompanied him with a few jokes and then said she’d go home first to pick up Xiao Qi and the others and head directly to the hotel.

”Go, go, you’ve been out all day. Xiao Qi might cry all day. You should have just brought your parents and in-laws to witness the ceremony. The more people, the merrier.” Old Master Cheng quickly said.

”Today, I’m on the bride’s escort team at Xiao Ya’s side. On the Cheng family’s side, many have come, and my parents don’t know anyone here. They’re afraid they’ll be bored. Moreover, Xiao Qi is still young; she’s likely to cause trouble with so many people around.” Cheng Su explained.

”Nonsense, they wouldn’t recognize them? You are just...” Old Master Cheng sighed, didn’t finish, and said, ”Go ahead, I’ll have someone pick you up to go to the hotel later.”

Cheng Su agreed with a smile.

...

The Cheng family and the Ying family are united in marriage. Since the Ying family is established in Qing City, the main venue is naturally Cheng’s, and the Ying family invited some very close relatives and friends for the wedding feast. If Qing City had an airport, with Cheng family’s wealth and generosity, they might have hired a whole plane to bring all Ying family’s relatives and friends over to support Ying Xiaoya.

When the two families initially discussed wedding arrangements, they agreed to keep it simple, but the ceremony remained solemn. As for the guests for the wedding feast, they streamlined as much as possible. Together, the two families planned for fifty tables, which in modern times, is not considered small in scale.

As for the hotel for the guests, the Cheng family, being wealthy, spared no expense and booked the best Five-star Hotel in Guangcheng, resplendent and majestic—it really does justice to their status.

”I thought it was grand enough when we had Xiao Qi’s full-month banquet, but coming here, I truly grasp the meaning of grandeur.” Mother Qi whispered to Mother Cheng as the newlyweds entered.

Mother Cheng also found it impressive and eye-opening, saying, ”That’s why they say riches abound here, and everyone’s eager to come and make a fortune. Just by looking at the grandeur and flair here, you can tell how wealthy they are.”

Mother Qi thought about Third Uncle Cheng, who has already settled here to do business, and even Cheng Zhi is now following him. Her gaze fell on Third Uncle Cheng and the others, and she said sourly, ”The Cheng family is likely to become quite wealthy too. Your family’s third brother and Cheng Zhi have both settled down here.”

Mother Cheng puffed out her chest and said, ”Oh, I wouldn’t call it wealthy—just happy not to worry about food for three meals a day—but thanks to your kind words, I do look forward to that day.”

Mother Qi pursed her lips.

Mother Cheng then belatedly noticed her bitterness and started praising, ”You’re also set to enjoy life. Jianguo is studying at university here and will surely develop here in the future. And your Fengping, isn’t she in a big city too? Everyone in Xiashui Village envies you. They all say you and your father-in-law raised your children well, and they want to learn from you!”
