Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1621 - 1622: Slapping the Right Person

A long-time authority figure like Cheng Yaozong naturally has a much greater intimidating presence than Cheng Su. Just a casual glance at a few salespeople makes them wish they could vanish into thin air, trembling with fear, not daring to breathe.

”If you insist, then so be it. It’s also a sign of your filial piety.” Cheng Yaozong saw her persistence and said nothing more, then looked at the child in Father Qi’s arms, saying, ”So this is Xiao Qi?”

”Yes, call him Second Uncle.” Mother Cheng, quick to react, immediately hugged the child and stepped forward.

Cheng Yaozong took Xiao Qi from her arms, and as soon as his gaze met the child’s black shiny eyes, his expression suddenly softened. He hefted him and smiled, saying, ”The kid’s quite hefty.” Then he said to Cheng Su, ”Pick a gift for Xiao Qi here in the store, it’s on my account, as a first meeting gift from his uncle to his nephew.”

”Thank you so much.” Cheng Su chuckled softly.

Cheng Yaozong uttered an ’um’, saying, ”Come over to the house when you have time, or come to my office, I have two matters to seek your opinion on.”

Cheng Su paused for a moment, then replied cheerfully, ”Alright!”

Cheng Yaozong handed the child back to her, saying, ”You all stroll around first, I still have some matters to handle.” He also instructed the assistant beside him, ”Whatever Miss Cheng picks, put it on my account.”

As they left, the salespeople quickly gathered around respectfully, their smiles even brighter, saying, ”Miss Cheng, what do you think?”

Cheng Su sighed; these people live by paying attention to faces.

”Write up the order, I’ll settle it with my card,” Cheng Su said indifferently.

”Certainly!”

Once out of the mall, Mother Cheng asked Cheng Su, ”Was that the Cheng family’s second son? He looks so dignified!”

”Yes!”

”Why didn’t you mention that those salespeople weren’t acting right? If it were relatives like us, it’s one thing; but if it were someone else, who knows what trouble they’d cause!” Mother Cheng scoffed coldly.

Cheng Su smiled: ”Mom, you just saw it too. Who were the people around Second Brother Cheng? They are not managers, but salespeople; to put it bluntly, they’re his employees. If I had said outright that their salespeople were unqualified, looking down on others, what would have been the consequence?”

”The consequence is likely that the employee would be fired. We’d feel satisfied, reclaim our pride, but don’t forget, this department store belongs to the Cheng family. If I had recklessly said something, while feeling satisfied, it would also lose face for Second Brother Cheng. What’s satisfying about that? We are relatives.”

Mother Cheng was stunned, and even though Mother Qi found it strange, she glanced at Cheng Su.

”Embarrassing Second Brother Cheng, especially in front of so many managers and employees, how can he maintain his dignity? His employee being rude to his relatives, does it make him look good?” Cheng Su chuckled lightly: ”Besides, even if I don’t say anything, do you think he’s not aware? And even if he’s not, if I mention it later, that employee won’t fare any better!”

Embarrassment can be given, but one must consider the target. Cheng Yaozong is her second brother; embarrassing him is the same as embarrassing oneself. What’s the point of doing so?

Publicly criticizing a salesperson is just showing low emotional intelligence; it doesn’t elevate oneself but makes people think you’re petty and calculating.

As for the disdain and ridicule she faced earlier, she had already satisfiedly returned it to those salespeople once she tore off that label, not to mention Cheng Yaozong’s presence.

The best way to embarrass someone is to completely overturn the label they put on you.
