Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1627 - 1628: Reluctant Farewell

Marriage has always been a mix of joy and sorrow, naturally bringing happiness to the groom’s family, welcoming a daughter-in-law into the home, adding a new member, and eventually growing the family with sons and daughters, making the clan flourish without any loss.

And the ones who fret are naturally the bride’s family, especially families with only one daughter.

Cheng Su watched Ying Xiaoya kneeling before Ying Jian and Mother Ying, her eyes misty with tears. Then she looked at Mr. Ying holding his daughter’s hand, his face full of reluctance, while Mother Ying, although smiling, also let her tears fall.

The pearl of their eyes, the cherished daughter they had nurtured so tenderly, was now going to be someone else’s. No matter how wealthy or good the groom’s family might be, in the eyes of the parents, they could never be good enough.

”What’s so good about other people’s families, what’s so good?” Mother Ying murmured.

They had always looked forward to Ying Xiaoya’s marriage, but now that the time had come for their daughter to leave, it felt like their hearts were being sliced open, filled with reluctance.

It’s hard to let go of that small pink bundle of joy born into their lives, cared for at every step until she could speak, walk, run, and jump, becoming a little girl, a teenager, and then a young lady; those long twenty-some years seemed like just yesterday.

”I won’t get married, I won’t get married.” Ying Xiaoya couldn’t help but burst into tears.

Everyone panicked. Cheng Yaozu, kneeling beside her, immediately pulled a handkerchief from his pocket to gently wipe away her tears, saying, ”Don’t cry. We’ll come back often to visit.”

Another woman acting as Big Jin Sister also chimed in, saying auspicious and celebratory words.

For a daughter leaving her home for marriage, reluctance and tears are normal because from this day forward, you become part of another family, and your last name precedes theirs.

Cheng Su also felt a bittersweet pang in her heart, turning her gaze away to secretly wipe her tears, thinking how fortunate she was to have a son, for if she had a daughter, she would have to go through all this someday.

After serving tea, she left, getting into the wedding car.

Standing outside the wedding car, Ying Jian kept watching Ying Xiaoya. This usually dignified deputy mayor, now with reddened eyes, was just an ordinary father.

”Dad, I’ll be back soon.” Ying Xiaoya waved her hand.

”Ah!” Ying Jian managed a smile and waved back.

The wedding car started, and he stood there, watching his daughter go farther and farther away, only hoping that from now on her life would go smoothly, her marriage full of love, and her days filled with happiness.

Cheng Su sighed softly in her heart.

At the Cheng family’s mansion, unlike the parting sorrow at the Ying family, here was a hall full of guests, cheerful and lively.

From Old Master Cheng to other relatives of the Cheng family, anyone eligible to receive a cup of tea from Cheng Yaozu and his bride gave them valuable gifts. The most typical representation, the Dragon and Phoenix Bracelet, such auspicious items, were worn from their wrists up to their necks, tied with red strings, one after another, along with various other golden jewels.

Cheng Su thought these gifts of gold had truly been passed down through the ages without declining. Looking at Ying Xiaoya’s slightly bent neck, she worried if that string of items might weigh her neck down.

After recognizing family and serving tea at the Cheng family, Ying Xiaoya and the others returned; Cheng Su didn’t go with them this time. She suddenly thought of Qi Taiguo and wanted to talk to him.

She called him from Old Master Cheng’s study. Qi Taiguo was busy, but was quite surprised to receive the call and asked, ”Isn’t today Xiaoya’s big day? Don’t you need to help out? How do you have time to call, is something wrong?”

”Nothing’s wrong, the wedding is lively and fun, but I missed you, and wanted to hear your voice,” Cheng Su said.

Qi Taiguo was taken aback, leaning back comfortably in his chair, ”I miss you too!”
