Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 476: Melissaʼs Solution

Nathan looked at the name card while standing in front of a small store. ”Is this the place? Maybe she doesnʼt live here?”

Nathan raised his head, looking at the signboard.

ʼBlack Angel Store.ʼ It had the same name as the one on the business card. ”Maybe I should wait here until she opens the store in the morning? I donʼt know anyone here, so thatʼs the only thing I can do—!”

Nathan abruptly stopped the moment he heard a bell on top of the door ring as though someone had just opened the door.

Still, he was the only person outside, so whoever it was must open the door from the inside.

”I heard a familiar voice, and look who we have here.” Melissa emerged from the store while leaning sideways. Her eyes were half-open. ”Did Vivian dump you?”

Nathan smiled wryly. Melissa barely wore anything, making it hard for Nathan to look at her.

He politely bowed. ”Hello, Miss Melissa. Iʼm glad that you remember me. I apologize for coming at such a time, but is it possible to—!”

”Wait!” Melissa raised her voice as if she wanted to complain about Nathanʼs behavior. However, her gaze soon shifted to the side as she hurriedly came out of the store while extending her hand. ”What is this?”

She let the ash fall on her hands and started pinching it and smelling it. In that instant, her expression turned grim.

”Ash?” She raised her head, finding the cloud covering the entire sky. ”Did a volcano erupt or something? But that was weird. There was no volcano around here that was supposed to erupt. Was it the one that produced the sound that repeatedly shook this place?”

Melissa couldnʼt help but remember that Nathan was here. ”Did you come because of this? Vivian must have sent you, no?”

Nathan nodded.

Melissa thought for a moment and opened the door wide. ”Come in. Letʼs talk inside.”

”Yes.”

…

”Here you go.” Melissa placed the coffee on the table. She then sat down while warming her hands with the heat from the glass.

Nathan looked around the shop. Surprisingly, he couldnʼt sense any presence in this store.

”Are you looking for my disciple? He dared to talk about the forbidden topic with me, so I kicked him out. Besides, this store has been enchanted to mask oneʼs presence. Even if heʼs here, you canʼt notice.”

”Ah!” Nathan scratched the back of his head.

”How dare he talk about marriage to me… Gosh. I just want to have fun, research things I like, and die by myself without making others sad.” Melissa clicked his tongue.

Nathan only chuckled, not really interested in her personal life. He just focused on explaining the current situation. ”Well, the situation is like this…”

After explaining to a lot of people, Nathan only took ten minutes to tell her about everything they had in store.

Melissaʼs expression turned grim the moment she learned everything. ”I see. Thatʼs indeed possible. If you can actually create a weapon that can shoot the sky and disperse the cloud, then itʼs possible.

”So, Vivian wants to recruit me?” Melissa crossed her arms.

”I donʼt think so. Itʼs just having another researcher with us will be good.”

Melissa thought for a moment. ”That means she wants something from my mentor. The world is going cold soon, so something related to cold or heat.

”Well, in this scenario, food scarcity will be the biggest problem, and the aliens are pretty much annoying in one way or another. They arenʼt affected by the environment, so while weʼre getting weakened severely, the aliens will continue their onslaught like normal.

”The key point will depend on whether we can tackle the food problem or not.” Melissa pinched the bridge of her nose. ”Let me think. Something that can be shot into the sky and disperse at a certain altitude… doesnʼt seem to be easy to create.

”We have to consider the altitude, the gravity, and even the velocity. I donʼt think we have that kind of time to make such a thing.

”How about something else? That is easy to make with the current technology. Melissa tapped the table a few times before asking, ”How about a bow and arrow?”

”A bow and arrow?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion.

”Yes. You can shoot the arrow up with a bow and choose the altitude depending on how you pull the bowstring.

”In addition, you only need mechanical things, which are easier to create with the current technology. Also, the arrow can return to the ground. All we need to do is use a kind of parachute to slow down the fall. This way, we can shoot it over and over again.

”This ʼarrowʼ needs an enchantment to produce a wind. However, this is the biggest problem.”

”What do you mean the biggest problem?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion.

”Ah?! Now that I think about it, youʼre not a researcher, right?”

”Yes.”

”This is basic knowledge of a researcher. You must be thinking it will be easy just to inscribe the magic circle in the ʼarrow,ʼ right?”

”Yes.”

”However, thatʼs not the case, especially if weʼre going to use elements. For example, you inscribe this magic circle, but do you think you can shoot a wind just by supplying the ena?”

”You canʼt?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion.

”Nope. You need a material that contains a wind element, mostly from familiars. Hence, Iʼm assuming Vivian is only planning to disperse that ena to create enough shock wave that will blow the cloud. This is possible, but the method is not very effective. She must be thinking hard on how to maximize the efficiency right now.”

Nathan squinted his eyes. He thought that they would only need a wind magic circle, but it seemed he was wrong.

”Still not understand? I will use another example. You know that familiar can wield elements, right?”

”Yes.”

”In that case, do you think their heart, the organ producing the ena, will produce the element as well? Then the answer is yes and no. Itʼs the same organ, but a different location, which means the element and ena arenʼt originally coming out as a single thing.”
