Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 475: Fish and Bird (Bonus)

Nathanʼs next destination was a city located not far from the Blacksmith Guild. Unfortunately, it was not a major city, so it didnʼt have a teleportation circle. Hence, Nathan had no choice but to fly there directly.

Ryan might have realized this and given those items to protect Nathan since his task was important for the world.

Of course, Nidhogg was the one carrying him on his back.

”Why am I the only one having to do all this?” Complained Nidhogg, considering Jinwu could also do this. Besides, Nidhogg was rather lazy, so Nathan could understand his complaint.

”Hahaha. Donʼt worry. Iʼm thinking about changing my fifth familiar.”

”Hmm? Arenʼt you thinking about choosing either the Celestial Fox, Tenko, or that eight-headed snake, Yamata-no-orochi?” Nidhogg frowned.

”Yeah. Itʼs just… I remember that there might be a more suitable divine beast in this situation. Not only does it have the ability to fly, but it is also great for this world…” Nathan pointed up.

”The ash?”

”The cloud.” Nathan smirked.

”Hmm? What kind of divine beast is it?”

”Well, itʼs one of my most favorite divine beasts.” Nathan grinned.

”According to the legend, in the northern darkness there is a fish. This fish is so large that no one knows how many thousand li he measures.”

”Li? Whatʼs that?”

”Ah. Their measurement. 1 li is 500 meters or 1640 feet.” Nathan grinned. ”He changes and becomes a bird. The back of the bird is also so large that no one knows how long it is.

”When he rises up and flies off, his wings are like clouds all over the sky. When the sea begins to move, this bird sets off for the southern darkness, which is the Lake of Heaven.

”According to the record, when the bird journeys to the southern darkness, the water is roiled for three thousand li. He beats the whirlwind, setting off on the sixth-month gale.

”The fish is said to be several thousand li. The bird cuts through the cloud and mist, shouldering the blue sky.”

”That big? How can one be so big?”

”Well, it might be an exaggeration of the legend, but you can think of it as Jormungand. Isnʼt he the same? The serpent who is so big that it circles the entire world?”

”Well…” Nidhogg couldnʼt really deny it. ”Fair enough. So, you want to summon a bird?”

”Itʼs not really a bird. While I know the legend, Iʼm not entirely sure about whatʼs going to become the familiar itself. This is the first time I test with something like this.

”In the legend, you can say that this beast has two forms. However, it can also be considered to have only one form, which is the bird.

”Nevertheless, this beast will be powerful. With its size alone, he will probably have no problem blowing the cloud.”

”True. But if youʼre going to summon something of that size, you need a huge range for your summoning, you know?”

”Yep, I know. Besides, weʼre going to my masterʼs rival. She has that thing to boost oneʼs range, so Iʼm going to use that as well. Besides, while he is big, I believe he has a huge range as well, so I donʼt really have any problem with it.”

Nidhogg thought for a moment. ”Well, if we interpret the legend literally, it will be like a massive province coming at you, so I donʼt think itʼs possible.

”Besides, he will have to severely restrain his strength, so I bet his size wonʼt be that big. At most, it will be 50 to 100 meters (164 to 328 feet).”

”I know.” Nathan smirked. ”Still, I think this divine beast will be much more suitable for our current situation. There might be a lot of aliens coming at us, so having someone that can just kill the enemies with their size allows us to conserve our strength. And the cloud is annoying. Maybe the fish can just swallow the cloud.”

”Hahaha. That might also be a solution. Just suck all of them.” Nidhogg chuckled. ”With that size, even if his speed is slow, the distance he covers will be bigger than mine. It means you will fly with him instead of me. Thatʼs great. I support your decision.”

Nathan smiled.

”By the way, what kind of fish and bird is this guy?”

”Hmm. The appearance of the fish is like that of a whale flying in the sky. But considering it is a whale, it might also be able to live underwater. We might have to cross the continent to see the actual supervolcano in the future, so having someone to cross the sea is good for us.

”To be honest, Iʼve also considered Moby Dick, the great whale. But I think this one is more appropriate.

”As for the bird, it has a fish-like body, but the fins have changed into wings. The fish is called Kun, the bird is called Peng. Itʼs more known as Kun Peng. I hope that it actually has two forms, since it means I will get 2 divine beasts for my fifth familiar.”

”Hoh? Is it from Chinese mythology again? The same as Jinwu?”

”Yep.”

”Now that I think about it, arenʼt you going to summon a Qilin or something?”

”Thatʼs true, but I donʼt know. I think that I wonʼt summon three familiars from the same mythology. I mean, there are a lot of famous mythology and cool divine beasts out there, so I want to give them a chance.

”Of course, if the situation doesnʼt allow me to, I will break this rule and summon anything that fits my condition.

”Besides, there are a lot of auspicious beasts out there.”

”I see.” Nidhogg nodded. ”That means you wonʼt summon Jormungand?”

”For the time being, yes. I donʼt know what kind of things the future has for us.” Nathan shrugged.

”Sure.” Nidhogg squinted his eyes. ”Kun Peng, huh?”

Nathan smiled before noticing the city in the distance. ”Is that the city? Letʼs descend.”
