I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 131 - 131 130 Summoning Animals131: Chapter 130 Summoning Animals 131: Chapter 130 Summoning Animals “Suddenly I feel that compared to your priests’ worship-like doggie spell learning method, our Druids’ charade with nature feels so much better,” Mu Ying concluded.

“Pfft, spot on with just one word—brilliant!” Liu Luoluo burst into laughter.

“Brill—iant,” Mu Ying extended two fingers, it was two words.

Liu Luoluo pretended not to see, “Then what about Mages?

Pay-to-win by drawing spells in their heads?”

Mu Ying couldn’t help but laugh as well, right on the money—the strength of Mages comes from within themselves, so they have to spend their own money to buy Magic Scrolls, and after buying them, they still need to remember the spell structures and engrave them into their Spiritual Sea.

It could be called the most brain-draining Profession.

After a brief casual chat, they both immersed themselves back into their own activities.

Mu Ying returned to the Plantation, harvested some pomelos, pomegranates, kiwis, and citrus from the orchard, kept some for herself in her Storage Pouch, and sent the rest to the Territory Specialty Store.

Having finished all that, her Mana Value had recovered substantially, so she began to learn the Stage 3 Spell “Summoning Animals,” which was fourth on her learning list.

Summoning Animals was the third offensive spell of the Stage 3 Spells, which allowed for the summoning of Beast Essence to aid oneself.

At level 5, one could probably summon a Beast Essence with a Challenge Level of 2, and if summoning weaker Beast Essences, multiple ones could be summoned.

Beast Essences will obey all of the summoner’s verbal commands and will stay near the summoner when there are no commands, instinctively protecting the summoner from hostile creatures.

The spell lasted for one hour.

The Beast Essences would disappear upon death or when the duration ended.

In Mu Ying’s view, it was a spell to summon animal-shaped energies without worrying about the creatures’ death because they lacked intelligence and life, operating solely on mechanical execution of the summoner’s commands and incapable of communication.

This Beast Essence didn’t possess Talent Skills like Magic Beasts; they fought with only their bodies and Innate Weapons like ordinary animals.

Like the reference for Wild Transformation, it could only mimic ordinary beasts; for instance, she could take on a Wolf Form but not transform into a Sky Wolf.

However, the animal form she transformed into wasn’t static; as her level increased, the animal form would grow stronger, mostly reflected in its Attributes.

For instance, her current Wolf Form had Strength, Body, and Dexterity Attributes that were a little stronger than an ordinary wolf.

Wild Essence worked similarly, only mimicking the shape of a beast with its actual power determined by her summoning intent.

If she wished, she could summon a 2- Strength-level Wolf Form Essence, or she could summon a rabbit Essence with the same Challenge Level.

The shape only affected the Essence’s mode of attack and movement and wasn’t a measure of the actual beast’s combat ability.

Mu Ying thought of the Beast Essence as a recyclable tool for defending against enemies, capable of holding them off, providing opportunities for either attack or escape, and assisting her when facing multiple enemies.

This spell might play a big role in exploring instances in the future.

Of course, no matter how much she coveted the effects of Summoning Animals, she had to take it step by step for now.

She chose to use the very familiar Wolf Form as the template for Summoning Animals, and, as expected, the first summoning failed.

Only after depleting her Mana did she manage to summon a vague creature with four legs and a tail that no one but her would dare to call a wolf.

Without a complete and realistic shape, the Essence was just a chaotic blob of energy unable to perform attacks and behaviors like a real wolf, lasting only a brief moment before fading away.

Mu Ying ended her practice in high spirits while it was still light out.

Considering the rumors about her practising spells from dawn to dusk within the territory, she decided to go to the tavern for a drink tonight, to set the record straight.

Bruce Tavern, the only publicly known place of entertainment in the entire territory.

As for why the tavern became such a place, it all started when someone introduced playing cards.

Back then, after someone made a fortune off plays in the Mushroom Man Theater using scripts from pre-Doomsday, others planned to follow suit.

Most people would only remember the gist of the dramas and novels they watched or read unless they rewatched the same works several times, which could be a bit helpful.

Then, some started to consider other ideas, such as the modern elements found in transmigration literature within novels—aren’t they also part of the protagonists’ golden fingers?

So some sold recipes, while others sold designs for weapons, clothing, and furniture, naturally leading to someone setting sights on the tavern.

Few people knew the specific processes of brewing alcohol, but many still understood the concept and general direction of producing strong spirits like baijiu.

Those who didn’t know could just suggest to Bruce that coming to the tavern just to drink and chat was pretty dull, as there only so much gossip to talk about every day.

Plus, you could chat anywhere—there was no competitive edge to it.

It would be better to include entertainment like card and board games.

With the Mushroom Man Theater only internally open for free-spirited enjoyment, a place catering to those accustomed to modern nighttime activities was a definite hit.

Once Bruce heard the idea, he immediately understood.

Such games were popular in their world’s taverns too, but the playing cards that could inadvertently reveal information about the outside world couldn’t be brought into this realm.

Thus, poker and mahjong became popular in the tavern.

In the evenings, after dinner and before going to bed, many preferred to wind down by playing cards and drinking at the tavern, relieving the tension of the day.

Mu Ying only found out about this after being told by Liu Luoluo.

Other than going to the tavern for a meal when her eatery was closed, she hadn’t returned since.

Pushing open the small door of the tavern was like entering another world.

Outside was the quiet forest at night, while inside was a bustling market, brightly lit and filled with noise, a stark contrast to the deserted tavern she remembered.

“Peng!”

“Three with a pair!”

“Bomb!”

“The landlord is losing again.”

“Flush!”

There weren’t that many who actually played cards, around three to four tables, but each table was surrounded by onlookers, making it quite a spectacle.

Bruce was among them.

Looking at Old Uncle Rub, Aisha, and Penny at the card table, no wonder they closed up shop early in the evening to come here for relaxation.

Bruce hadn’t forgotten his duties as the boss; he kept an eye on the door and looked over as soon as he heard the sound of it opening and closing, “What would you like to drink?”

“Do you have any low-alcohol drinks?” She was just there to sit for a while, showing she wasn’t that overworked.

Bruce clapped his hands together, “How about Red Beauty?

A fruit wine, ladies’ favorite.”

“Okay,” Mu Ying took a seat at an empty spot in the corner of the bar and waited, resting her head on her hand.

“Mu Ying is actually here for a drink!”

“Is she even eighteen yet?”

“I heard she was in her last year of high school before the apocalypse.

She must be of age by now.”

“I think not, she still looks so youthful!”

“Sigh, she must be stressed out from studying too much and came here to indulge a bit.”

“That makes sense; look, she’s so tired she’s resting her head on her hand.”

Mu Ying, who had very good hearing: ...

She just thought it was odd to sit straight up at the bar, so she opted for a more relaxed pose...
