Chapter 122 - 122 121 A Visitor on a Rainy Night122: Chapter 121: A Visitor on a Rainy Night 122: Chapter 121: A Visitor on a Rainy Night “Boom, boom, boom!”

Mu Ying was comforting Xiao Shiyin when she heard the urgent knocking on the door.

What could be the emergency?

She quickly got up to open the door.

As the door swung open, the person knocking recoiled in fear.

Outside stood seven or eight people, all familiar to Mu Ying, though she couldn’t recall their names.

The one in the front she knew best, it seemed his name was Old Mao?

Well, he had tried to morally blackmail her and had been slapped by her before, so his fear of her was quite normal.

But now he had reformed, hadn’t caused any trouble, and had even contributed in the fight against the ghouls.

As a member of the Qingshan Alliance now, Mu Ying bore no prejudice against them.

They were all soaked to the bone, their muddy attire streaked with blood.

Their pale faces were filled with terror; they must have just returned to the territory and encountered some danger.

Mu Ying softened her expression, smiling kindly as she asked, “What’s the matter?”

Old Mao shuddered at her smile—it looked terrifying to him, and the shadow of the past slap hovered over him.

But his worry overcame his fear, and he stammered out, “The ghouls...

they’re out...

so many of them...

we lost two brothers...

barely managed to...

to escape back here...

They followed us...

They’re powerful...

Can our Territory Shield hold?”

Mu Ying, listening to his stuttering, became instantly alert.

“Don’t worry, the Territory Shield has been upgraded too, it should hold.

I’ll go check it out now!”

Although she had great confidence in the Territory Shield, she took the matter very seriously; she couldn’t be at ease without seeing it for herself.

Previously, in the Ghoul Replica, she had encountered mainly level 3 ghouls, with only one Demon Ghost at level 5, but she couldn’t guarantee that she had glimpsed the entire instance in that short time.

According to the previous pattern, the replica monsters, approximately the same or even a level lower in strength than the top-tier players’ powers, were mostly trapped within the replica, unable to exit the replica gate.

But Mu Ying wasn’t clear about how this gap was specifically calculated.

She could only be certain that monsters capable of breaking a level 6 defense on the Territory Shield wouldn’t appear.

Even the monsters that directly descended wouldn’t exceed the players’ highest level.

Therefore, a level 6 defense Territory Shield should be absolutely safe.

With so many people watching, Mu Ying couldn’t use her Waterproof Magic, but fortunately, she had already changed her Thousand Faces Clothes to a waterproof material before the rain.

Putting on her hood could fend off some of it.

Pretending to grab something from inside the door, she took her weapon out of the Storage Pouch, then closed the door and ran toward the edge of the territory.

Indeed, at the entrance to the territory, a good number of ghouls had gathered, futilely attacking the protective shield.

Although they were much stronger than those she had fought before, by her estimation, they all seemed to be of the level 3 she had seen in the replica; there were no Demon Ghosts among them.

Unfortunately, she had used up all her Mana Value, and the Summoning Lightning Skill she had recently learned and somewhat mastered couldn’t be put to great use.

She would have to rely on the bow and arrow.

Entering shooting range, Mu Ying drew her bow fully, concentrated the arrows, and fired one straight through a tongue.

The unlucky ghoul targeted was hit in a vital spot, its slender tongue no longer daring to flick wildly about, now drooping helplessly.

It looked warily in the direction the arrow had come from and retreated several steps.

Still, the wound caused by the bow and arrow was ultimately too slight.

For a creature of flesh and blood, such a wound might prove fatal, but for undead creatures like ghouls, which were essentially walking corpses, it wasn’t deadly.

Especially considering her arrows were made of energy and vanished upon impact.

No, this isn’t right.

Walking corpses, undead creatures, Mu Ying moved closer, and upon closer inspection, she indeed identified some black aura on the Ghoul.

In the rainy night, the aura wasn’t very clear, but it was definitely there—a sign of nature’s disdain.

Mu Ying slung her bow and arrow onto her back and hurried towards the edge of the territory.

At the same time, she clenched her right hand and a huge black scythe materialized in her grip.

Upon reaching the gate of the territory, she swung forcefully, and the Ghoul closest to the Territory Shield was pierced by the scythe.

Within seconds, it rapidly decayed into a pile of mush that the rain washed away.

Old Mao and others who came to check the situation swallowed hard.

“What kind of Devil’s Move is this?”

“It must be a spell!”

“A level 5 Druid is this powerful, huh!”

“Such a pity about the tongues and claws; these Ghouls are obviously of a higher level than the previous batch.

They could have been sold for a better price!”

...

Because the Balance Scythe couldn’t affect physical entities, no one suspected the scythe was an actual weapon, but instead, they took it for some potent spell.

Using the Balance Scythe against those creatures that disrupted the natural balance and were abhorred by nature was as easy as slicing through melons and vegetables.

But these Ghouls were not as brainless as the initial zombies, knowing they couldn’t breach the protective shield of the territory yet still stubbornly attracted to the flesh and blood inside and squeezing towards the Territory Shield.

After the first Ghoul’s tongue was rendered useless by an arrow, the other Ghouls also retreated a little.

When the boldest Ghoul at the forefront was cut by the scythe and instantly turned into rotten flesh, stripped of life, the remaining Ghouls decisively fled.

Mu Ying didn’t have the opportunity to strike a second time, nor did she pursue them; after all, her Mana Value hadn’t recovered, and she didn’t even have the Tree Skin Skill on her.

Chasing too fiercely could be dangerous if she found herself surrounded by a large group of Ghouls.

Moreover, with their long arms and legs, it would be hard for her to catch up to the Ghouls without the Divine Movement Technique.

“Why are Ghouls loathed by nature?” Mu Ying hadn’t thought much about it before, but now she was somewhat puzzled.

She recalled the habits of Ghouls, “Undead creatures, flesh that doesn’t rot or die, and an endless craving for the flesh of humanoid beings.”

Ghouls, unlike the Withered Monsters or the Gantiya Demon Tree, didn’t erode the natural power, nor did they damage forests on a large scale.

There didn’t seem to be anything about them that was detrimental to nature.

But upon further reflection, undead creatures, beings that aren’t normal life yet still maintain the ability to act and a certain level of intelligence, seemed to inherently disrupt the natural balance.

Furthermore, Ghouls fed on decaying flesh not to sustain their own lives, but purely for the craving.

Their bodies had long lost Life Force.

Targeting humanoid beings specifically, if there were no readily available corpses, they would attack the living to create dead bodies themselves.

How is this different from indiscriminately cutting down trees and hunting, not out of necessity but solely to experience the thrill of destruction?

“So nature is not just the nature of the vegetation, but also of life itself,” Mu Ying realized, understanding why even humans were enveloped by the natural power.

Life forms of value and inanimate objects are all part of nature, while undead creatures that are devoid of life, value, and harbor only pure malice and a heart for slaughter are abhorred by nature.
