Pioneer Lord: Starting From Daily Intelligence

Chapter 989: Chapter 137: The Evil Son of Manan and Hesse Territory’s Formidable Offensive (Part 2)

The most lethal blow is to morale. Not only does the Hesse Territory possess such a powerful military force, but it also has such terrifying and precise long-range firepower, and it occupies an absolute high ground advantage! The Vermilion Banner fluttering at the Right Bank Camp and the flames flickering from the artillery have become an indelible shadow over the hearts of all the defending troops.

Baron Grant stood on the battlements, watching helplessly as the meticulously arranged defensive nodes were crushed one by one, listening to the chaos and wailing echoing within the fort, his face turned pale.

But all this is merely the prelude to the overall assault!

When the artillery barrage ended, the Hesse Territory’s bugles of attack blared through the gorge with even greater momentum.

The Griffin Knights and Flying Horse Knights, already circling in anticipation above the cliff camp, swooped down like raptors smelling blood at the perfect moment when the defending army was suppressed by artillery and thrown into chaos! Their targets were very clear: the remaining crossbow cannons and catapults, which were easily torn to pieces by their massive claws and the Griffin’s strikes.

If allowed to continue firing, a single crossbow arrow could potentially result in the death of 3~5 Armed Attendants or, with a stroke of luck, directly critically injure an Elite Knight.

Then the ground forces surged like a tide, with the Giant Butcher leading the Dwarf Heavy Infantry phalanx to the base of the castle; they held high massive siege shields, their steps heavy and resolute, targeting the gates of Rapids Castle.

Followed closely behind them were the massive Blue Heron Mercenary Corps of Crossbowmen and the Dwarf Musketeer Legion. Their formation was even larger and denser than the Heavy Infantry in front.

As soon as they reached shooting range, this fearsome long-range army instantly formed up like a steel jungle. The next moment, a storm of arrows and scorching lead bullets erupted like a sudden onslaught! The dense deathly rain poured onto the battlements of Rapids Castle, with a ferocious momentum, like rain of arrows, the soldiers on the battlements having no place to stand.

Under the suppression of artillery and long-range units, the Hesse Territory army immediately gained strategic advantage, as Yurik’s Berserk Knights and the mighty armored Dwarves fearlessly placed ladders against the walls, beginning the fierce climbing battle.

The destiny of Rapids Castle teetered under the Dwarven cannon’s thunderous roar, the air cavalry’s shrieks, the Berserkers’ roars, the Dwarves’ war cries, and the Blazing Sun Knights’ thunderous charges! The rivers of Brionne were illuminated blood-red by the artillery fire, reflecting the silhouette of this emerging fortress swaying in the flames of war. Su Li stood at the cliff camp’s edge, gazing calmly at the purgatory-like battlefield below, awaiting the decisive moment – the collapse of the gates.

As long as the army could seize the gates, allowing the Steel Legion to flood in, the fall of this fortress would be only a matter of time.

At this moment, the Wild Beast Mage Grondahl also raised his magic staff high, a mysterious and cryptic voice ringing loudly from his throat: ”Machu’s mighty legion!”

With the powerful magic burst from his staff, like a brown sun rising from the ground, the light quickly spread, covering countless soldiers climbing the walls ahead.

Machu’s mighty legion – the Shaman summons the power of the wild world and grants it to his chosen allies.

Under this power’s blessing, the soldiers would experience a surge of savagery, their attack desire and speed skyrocketing, while their bodies would become as tough as leather.

The Armed Attendants defending the battlements could clearly see their arrows bounce off the enemy’s armor upon hitting, and even if they barely penetrated the armor, they couldn’t pierce the opponent’s tough skin.

The siege White Wolf Knights and Dwarf Butchers casually snapped the arrows hanging on them, then courageously charged forward.

Blue Sword Knight Order’s Leader Claude Rodriguez was already drenched in blood, his eyes blood-red, as he personally witnessed the powerful Champion Knight rush up the walls, swinging his warhammer forcefully, sending two or three Manan Knights standing before him flying.

Scenes like this were happening all over the castle; while the road to Rapids Castle was narrow, it couldn’t stop the Manan Knights, who weren’t skilled in long-range combat, and the defensive installations on the walls suppressed by the enemy forces made combat depend solely on mutual slaughter.

Not just him, even enemies had appeared beside Baron Grant, a Griffin Knight swooping down directly, piercing Baron Grant’s body nearly with a sharp lance. If not for a Manan Knight beside him sacrificing himself with a leap to save Baron Grant, a near-complete decapitation tactic might have been executed.

At the start of the war, it plunged into an extremely dangerous situation.

The defending army hadn’t anticipated that the enemy’s assault would be so rapid, throwing Blue Mirror Territory into peril as soon as the battle began.

Claude was merely an Elite Knight, and he fought with all his might to lead a small number of Knight Order elites to reach Baron Grant, gasping heavily as he shouted: ”Lord, we must use our ultimate weapon. The enemy’s assault is too fierce; if we don’t act decisively, the fortress will be lost!”

Use the ultimate weapon now?

Baron Grant’s tiger eyes widened in dismay; he couldn’t understand why the enemy’s assault was so violent, like an overwhelming tide rolling in.

He initially thought that if he could kill the enemy’s commander and defeat their trusted aide of 300~500 men, the enemy army would collapse. After all, such a massive army couldn’t have everyone fighting bravely unto death.
