Chapter 1579: Becoming Mortal

The force of the blow sent Ellias reeling. His cosmic form flickerered as the corrupting energy began to seep into his very being.

”No!” Ellias gasped, feeling the corruption spreading through him, tainting his essence with the chaotic influence of the Overseer.

With a final roar of defiance, the Overseer was pulled into the sealed dimension, his form twisting and warping as he vanished behind the infinite barriers. The dimension folded in on itself, locking him away for all eternity.

Ellias floated in the void alone. His form flickered with unstable energy. The Overseerʼs last attack had struck deep, and he could feel it taking a toll on him, corrupting his cosmic essence. His luminous aura began to darken, a crackling darkness spreading across his celestial form.

But he had one last task to complete. Summoning his strength, he raised his hand and snapped his fingers. The universe trembled, and time itself began to rewind. The fractured stars, the torn planets, the broken galaxies—all of reality started to piece itself back together. The destruction wrought by their battle was undone, as if turning back the pages of a cosmic book.

Within moments, the universe was restored to its former state. Stars once snuffed out flared back to life, and worlds shattered by their cataclysmic clash were whole again. However, what he had done to the Overseer remained unchanged; the ancient deity was still sealed away in his dimension of infinite folds and barriers.

But Ellias knew that his own existence was now compromised. The corrupting blow of the Overseer was spreading, tainting his power and threatening the balance of the cosmos. He could feel his very essence beginning to unravel. ”I must act quickly,” he muttered to himself, his voice strained but resolute.

Ellias knew there was only one way to ensure the cosmos would remain in balance: he had to strip himself of his powers. With a deep breath, he extended his arms, and his luminous form began to fade. The cosmic energy that defined him slowly peeled away.

”Let it be known,” he declared to the void, ”that my power will not be lost to chaos. The cosmos will decide who is worthy to wield it, regardless of their species or origin... they shall gain cosmic superiority.”

As he spoke, some of his essence dissolved into cosmic dust, scattering across the universe like the seeds of a divine garden. ”Let the stars choose their champions,” he murmured. ”And let them rise when the cosmos deems it necessary.”

He continued to strip himself of more power, his form dimming further with each passing moment. From his fading energy, he began to craft five celestial artifacts, each imbued with a different aspect of his once-great power.

The first was a boot, greenish and dark as the void but shimmering with a silvery cosmic glow. ”This boot shall carry my ability to cross galaxies in a single step,” Ellias said, his voice echoing through the emptiness. ”May it serve those who dare to explore the furthest reaches of existence.”

The second was an hourglass. Its sands were made of tiny, glimmering golden stars that flowed in a smooth, hypnotic rhythm. ”Within this hourglass, I embed the power of time manipulation,” Ellias continued. ”For those who possess it, time shall bend, flow, or halt as they will it.”

The third artifact was an armored vest. Its surface gleamed with a metallic sheen, interwoven with threads of cosmic light. ”This vest shall grant unparalleled defense,” he declared, his voice now softer. ”Let it protect those who stand against the forces that would seek to unmake the universe.”

The fourth creation was a sentient rhombus-shaped, multicolored being—a swirling, ever-shifting prism of light and color. It pulsated with a strange, almost living energy. ”This being shall have the power to swallow anything into its endless void,” Ellias said, a hint of a smile on his face. ”It will choose its master.”

The final artifact was a sword, elegant and deadly. Its blade shimmered with the light of countless stars. ”This sword shall carry the wrath of the cosmos within its edge,” Ellias spoke with a finality that resonated through the void. ”For those who wield it, may it be both a shield and a sword, a protector and a destroyer.”

With the creation of each artifact, Elliasʼs form grew dimmer, his voice fainter. The corruption was spreading faster now. He needed to finish the dimensional webs before it was too late and so he did.

A decade later, Ellias hovered silently over the vast expanse of the universe, his gaze sweeping across the infinite stars that glittered in the void. He had completed the final task—the cosmic dimensional webs had been restored, the intricate threads woven tighter than ever before.

The seals were in place, and the Overseer was locked away in a dimension that folded endlessly upon itself, layered with impenetrable barriers. It was a prison that even the Overseer, with all his adaptation, would never escape.

But Ellias knew that his work was not without cost. The corruption from the Overseerʼs final blow still coursed through him, tainting his once-celestial form.

The dark energy gnawed at his essence, eating away at the remnants of his power. There was no curing it, no undoing what had been done. The more he tried to resist, the stronger it became, and he knew that it would eventually destroy him entirely.

The decision had been made long ago—he could not afford to let the corruption spread or allow himself to become a threat to the very universe he had just saved.

”It is time,” Ellias whispered, his voice faint against the hum of the stars.

He hovered for a moment longer, feeling mortality settle over him like a cloak. Then, with a slow, deliberate movement, he began to strip away the last vestiges of his celestial power. His form flickered and dimmed, the radiant glow that had once marked him as the Outworldly beginning to fade. Piece by piece, he stripped away the divine energy that had defined him for hundreds of thousands of years.

His immortality, his vast cosmic influence, his very being—all of it was slowly peeled away, drifting into the far reaches of the cosmos where no one would ever find it.

As his power ebbed away, Ellias felt something strange—an unfamiliar sensation he had not known in countless millennia. His body felt... heavy. Fragile. Weak. His heart, once the core of boundless cosmic energy, now beat irregularly in his chest, each thump a reminder of the short time he had left.

Ellias was now a mortal man, with only weeks to live. He decided on the place he intended to spend his last days.

He vanished and reappeared on Earth.

---

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the rolling hills of the countryside. The village of Yvane had changed little since Ellias had last walked its streets, though time had marched on for its people.

He wandered through the village unnoticed, his eyes sweeping over the familiar landscape. Life here had continued as it always had, simple and unburdened by the cosmic conflicts that had nearly torn the universe apart.

Elliasʼs destination was clear—Oslov. His old friend, the one human who had known him as a mortal before he turned one. The one man who had stood by his side and helped when he was fragile. Oslov had grown old, much older than Ellias remembered, and now his family tree stretched across generations. He had great-grandchildren who played in the village square.

Ellias found Oslov sitting outside his cottage, a small, weathered house that sat on the edge of the village. The old manʼs face was wrinkled, his eyes milky with age, but there was a spark of life still in them. Oslov sat in a creaky wooden chair, watching the sunset, his hands folded on his lap.

”Oslov,” Ellias said softly as he approached.

Oslov blinked, his head tilting slightly at the sound of the voice. He turned slowly, his frail body moving with the stiffness of age. When his eyes landed on Ellias, he froze. For a long moment, he simply stared, his expression one of disbelief.

”Ellias?” Oslovʼs voice was hoarse, barely more than a whisper. He squinted, leaning forward as if trying to convince himself that the figure before him was real. ”Is that truly you?”

Ellias gave a gentle nod, a faint smile on his face. ”Itʼs me, Oslov.”

”But… how?” Oslovʼs voice trembled. ”You—when we last met, you hadnʼt aged a day. And now…” He trailed off, his eyes searching Elliasʼs face. ”You still havenʼt.”

Ellias knelt beside his old friend, his gaze softening. ”Iʼve lived many lives since we last saw each other, old friend. But now, my time is almost up.”

Oslovʼs eyes widened, his hands gripping the arms of his chair. ”What do you mean? You were… different. You couldnʼt age, you couldnʼt die. How can your time be up?”
