The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning found Ning Ruoxi when Ning was hiding and crying in a small corner of the Rong Family’s backyard.

Anning took a tissue from her bag and handed it over: ”Wipe your tears.”

Ning Ruoxi turned her head and saw it was Anning, suddenly flustered: ”Why are you here...”

Anning squatted down as well: ”I heard from Aunt Li that Jun Hao scolded you?”

”It’s nothing much, really. He just has a bad temper and threw a bowl.” Ning Ruoxi took the tissue and wiped her tears, saying softly.

Seeing Ning Ruoxi’s expression slightly eased, Anning asked her, ”What do you plan to do? Do you still want to stay with the Rong Family or are you thinking of changing jobs?”

”I don’t know either.” Ning Ruoxi shook her head. ”When I first came to work at the Rong Family, over a year has passed, and the hospital probably doesn’t have my position anymore. If I quit this job... I don’t know what to do.”

She smiled at Anning, a hint of bitterness in her smile: ”My mom’s health isn’t great, we used to always rent houses to live in, but after I joined the Rong Family, because Ms. Li gave me some settling-in allowance, and the salary here is really high, I got a mortgage to buy a small house. I’m still paying the mortgage; it seems I can’t afford to lose this job.”

Anning patted Ning Ruoxi’s shoulder: ”You’re very thoughtful, but I noticed Jun Hao seems to dislike you very much, even, uh, somewhat loathes you, and he’s not in a good mental state now. If you stay, I’m afraid he might do something to you.”

This was exactly what Ning Ruoxi was worried about.

Her mind was pure, thus her perception of people’s emotions was more sensitive than others.

She could sense Anning’s kindness, naturally, and she also knew Rong Junhao’s dislike and hatred towards her.

She’s in a tough spot, neither able to leave nor stay, truly difficult.

”If it really doesn’t work out, I’ll just sell the house.” Ning Ruoxi bit her lip: ”This way, I’ll have some money in hand, can continue renting with my mom, and leave some time to find another job.”

She was really reluctant to sell that house, though small, she and her mom had carefully decorated it, the house was very cozy; with that house, she and her mom had a home, without it, she wouldn’t feel secure.

”How about this.” Anning suggested: ”I see you’re quite attentive and take good care of people, my boyfriend wants to be a star, I’m arranging a crew for him, once it’s ready, he’ll join the crew to shoot; I can’t find anyone trustworthy as an assistant for him. If you’re willing, could you help us out?”

Ning Ruoxi was surprised, she stared at Anning, so nervous her voice trembled: ”You, trust me?”

Anning smiled: ”You’re so good, how could I not trust you? See, you’ve been taking good care of Jun Hao for over a year without a speck of dirt or exhaustion, doing things meticulously, thinking of things others can’t. My boyfriend is careless, if he joins the crew, there will be many things he won’t notice; with you taking care, I’ll be at ease.”

Ning Ruoxi didn’t expect Anning to say such words.

She was a bit stunned, also at a loss: ”Thank you very much, it’s truly heartwarming that you trust me, though... Would you mind if I think it over?”

Anning nodded: ”Alright.”

She took out her phone: ”Let’s add each other as friends, once you’ve made a decision, let me know. Right, you need to hurry up, because if you don’t get back to me in a few days, I’ll have to find another assistant for my boyfriend.”

”As soon as I’ve decided, I’ll let you know right away, whether it works out or not, I’m really grateful.” Ning Ruoxi stood up and bowed to Anning, who smiled and encouraged her a bit, then said gently: ”You’re so young, you can’t spend your whole life at the Rong Family. Even if you stay for a few more months, you’ll have to find another job, it would be better to quit early. Now Jun Hao has woken up, anyone can take care of him, don’t you think?”

Ning Ruoxi nodded.

She felt much lighter: ”I was really upset earlier, talking with you has improved my mood, thank you. I know you can find someone more reliable as an assistant for your boyfriend; you’re just trying to help me.”

Anning smiled and waved: ”Enough of this, I have to rush to work at the company, goodbye.”

Ning Ruoxi also smiled: ”Goodbye.”

After talking with Anning, Ning Ruoxi’s mood significantly improved, she hummed a tune and smiled as she returned to her room, walking with a spring in her step.

But she hadn’t rested long after she returned when she heard someone calling her from outside: ”Ruoxi, Ruoxi.”

Ning Ruoxi quickly responded and came out of the room.

The caller was the Rong Family’s maid, Aunt Wu.

”Aunt Wu, is something wrong?”

Aunt Wu pointed upstairs: ”The young master is calling you.”

Ning Ruoxi mumbled: ”I’ll go right away.”

She went back to change clothes, tied her hair into a bun, took some things, and went upstairs.

Upon entering Rong Junhao’s room, Ning Ruoxi saw Jun Hao leaning against the headboard, his eyes gloomily fixed on her.

Ning Ruoxi was startled: ”Young Master Rong, is there something you need me for?”

Rong Junhao pointed to the wheelchair beside him: ”Help me onto it, I want to go out.”

Ning Ruoxi responded: ”I’ll call Aunt Wu to help.”

Rong Junhao’s gaze grew darker: ”I want you to help, come quickly or you’ll be thrown out of the Rong Family.”

Ning Ruoxi bit her lip and walked over to support Rong Junhao’s arm.

Rong Junhao stretched out his other hand and slapped Ning Ruoxi’s arm: ”What, disgusted by me?”

”No.” Ning Ruoxi lowered her head, whispered, then tried hard to help Rong Junhao stand up.

But no matter how hard she tried, Rong Junhao sat there motionless.

Ning Ruoxi sweated from the effort but still couldn’t lift Rong Junhao: ”Young Master Rong, could you move a little? I don’t have much strength...”

”Useless.” Rong Junhao cursed, grabbing the new crutch beside him and hit Ning Ruoxi: ”Can’t even handle this small thing despite taking so much money.”

Being hit hurt Ning Ruoxi, the pain she couldn’t bear wasn’t just physical, but also the insult and disrespect from Rong Junhao.

This time she couldn’t hold her tears back, they fell.

Rong Junhao became more annoyed: ”Can’t even handle a small thing, just know how to cry, what’s the point of having you.”

As he cursed, he pushed her, knocking Ning Ruoxi to the floor: ”Get out.”

Ning Ruoxi stood up, wiped her tears, and headed out: ”I’ll find someone to help you.”

At night, when Ning Ruoxi returned to her room to wash up, she found bruises on her arms and several places on her body where Rong Junhao had hit her.

She endured the pain, applied ointment, changed into pajamas, and lay on the bed, after a while, she made up her mind.

She took out her phone and sent a message to Anning.

Anning responded later.

She had a lot of work today, quite a few projects requiring her decisions, and also some matters of Mrs. Yun’s to handle.

Mrs. Yun started with home appliances, over the years Mr. Yun managed Mrs. Yun’s business well, many of their appliances are leading brands domestically and exported abroad; their refrigerators and air conditioners occupy nearly half of the domestic market.

However, the pace of upgrade for home appliances is fast, Mr. Yun had set up a laboratory, and Anning took charge and invested a large sum into it.

Anning visited the lab today and proposed some ideas.

Mrs. Yun aims to produce smart and energy-efficient appliances, Anning suggested ideas in this area, discussing with the lab staff for half a day, and proposed some plans. She left when it was already dark.

Though she still couldn’t return, she needed to handle many files at Mrs. Yun’s.

She got home after eight, nearly nine.

Once in the door, Anning received the message from Ning Ruoxi.

Ning Ruoxi had informed Anning she was resigning and agreed to be Xiao Yuan’s personal assistant.

Anning smiled at the message as Xiao Yuan brought out the dishes: ”What’s up? Good news?”

Anning washed her hands: ”I found you an assistant.”

”Ning Ruoxi.” Xiao Yuan didn’t need to guess to know it was Ning.
