The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning sat down to eat, and when she was almost done, she said, ”The girl is pretty nice. It would really be a pity if Rong Junhao ended up ruining her.”

Xiao Yuan glanced at Anning and after a while said, ”Killing is easy, but breaking the heart is hard.”

Anning couldn’t help but laugh: ”You really do know me best.”

”Alright then.”

Xiao Yuan leaned back in the chair, stretched out his long legs, and looked much more relaxed: ”She’s a pretty good assistant for me. The girl is attentive, and I’ve heard she’s a good cook. Even if it’s just for her cooking skills, she deserves a decent salary.”

Anning got up to clean up the dishes, and Xiao Yuan couldn’t sit still either, following her into the kitchen.

The two of them worked together, one washing the dishes, the other tidying the kitchen, and after the kitchen was clean and the trash packed, they went downstairs together to throw it out.

After disposing of the garbage, Anning sent a message to Ning Ruoxi to check if she was still awake, and then made a video call.

Ning Ruoxi was in her room, unable to sleep, sitting at her desk reading.

Upon receiving the video call, Ning Ruoxi saw Xiao Yuan’s particularly handsome face on her phone and greeted him with a smile: ”Hello, I’m Ning Ruoxi.”

Xiao Yuan also greeted her with a smile: ”Hello, I hope you can resign tomorrow and come over to understand some of my habits and taboos.”

”Alright.” Ning Ruoxi quickly nodded: ”I’ll pack my things tonight and resign from Ms. Li first thing in the morning.”

”Smart.” Anning also came over to wave at Ning Ruoxi: ”Try to resign quickly, ideally right after Ms. Li finishes breakfast. As soon as you resign, hurry up and leave the Rong family with your things. Xiao Yuan and I will drive over to pick you up.”

”No need.” Ning Ruoxi felt embarrassed to let Anning pick her up: ”Just give me the address, I’ll take a cab there.”

”Let us pick you up, it’ll give us peace of mind.”

Anning wasn’t worried about Ning Ruoxi, she was worried about Rong Junhao.

Ning Ruoxi wasn’t sure what to think of: ”Then I’ll trouble you.”

”It’s nothing.” Anning laughed: ”Just take good care of A Yuan in the future.”

After settling things with Ning Ruoxi, Anning ended the call, and An Xin jumped out.

She first exchanged greetings with Xiao Yuan, then spoke to Anning: ”Ningning, Ningning, I found a crew.”

”Explain in detail.”

Anning and Xiao Yuan went into the study, Anning handling some work on her computer, while Xiao Yuan was searching about the entertainment industry of this small world, its historical data, as well as poetry, songs, famous dramas, and movies from ancient times to now.

As they worked, they listened to An Xin’s report.

”It’s a web series.”

An Xin gave a detailed explanation: ”I’ve seen the script stored on the director’s computer, and it’s quite good. The actors are all newcomers and the crew is extremely poor. They can’t even afford 50 cents for special effects, and they can’t buy proper clothing. They have to hire a small tailor to make really simple ones, and even that isn’t enough money. The producer is desperately seeking investment but no one is interested.”

Anning finished reviewing a few documents, checked the application forms on her computer, approved one, and returned the others for revisions: ”Send me the script, let me have a look.”

An Xin quickly sent over the script: ”The plot is a bit silly, but I think it could be a hit. I’ve picked out a role for A Yuan, the second male lead with a ’beauty, strength, and tragedy’ setup. It’s a standout role that can garner sympathy, even more popular than the male lead.”

As An Xin spoke, she sent the script to Anning and Xiao Yuan.

Both read the script quickly.

After finishing it, Xiao Yuan slapped the table: ”Let’s go with this one.”

Anning looked at Xiao Yuan: ”Isn’t this show a bit too shabby? I have money, I can invest as much as needed. I want you to start from a higher level.”

Xiao Yuan waved his hand with a smile: ”No problem, this is fine. Sometimes starting too high isn’t a good thing either.”

Anning instantly understood Xiao Yuan’s concern: ”Alright then, tomorrow I’ll have Feng Na contact the producer. Since you want to act, we should make this show a good one. It can’t be too shabby.”

So far, this crew had only gathered about two million in investments. What’s that money enough for? No wonder An Xin said they couldn’t even afford 50 cents for special effects.

Anning planned to invest more money. One, so Xiao Yuan could have better living and dining conditions, and two, because that’s just how she is. She can’t do something half-heartedly; if she does it, she has to do it well.

After finishing all her work and entering the bedroom with Xiao Yuan, she asked him: ”Do you know how to act?”

Xiao Yuan gave her a sidelong glance: ”Don’t underestimate me. I may not have much experience in the entertainment industry, but I’ve sung opera before.”

Uh?

Anning really hadn’t heard Xiao Yuan mention this: ”When did you sing opera? Tell me about it, I’m curious.”

Naturally, they ended up in bed talking about it.

But Anning also learned about a part of Xiao Yuan’s past.

It wasn’t that Xiao Yuan didn’t want to tell Anning about his experiences; like Anning, he’s been through too much to know where to start.

Xiao Yuan had sung opera in some time-space in ancient times, even becoming a famous star back then, later becoming the owner of an opera troupe. He was quite skilled in acting, and since the original body wanted to break into the entertainment industry, he had naturally done his homework. After signing contracts, he had participated in a few films, though only playing minor roles, but he gained some experience. Xiao Yuan retained some memories from the original body and knew what acting entailed.

Anning and Xiao Yuan ate breakfast the next morning and drove to pick up Ning Ruoxi.

They waited at the Rong family’s entrance, and after five or six minutes, Ning Ruoxi came running out with her suitcase as if escaping.

Anning waved her onto the car, and she hurried over, getting inside with her suitcase without even taking the time to put it in the trunk. She urged Xiao Yuan, ”Mr. Xiao, please drive.”

”What’s the matter?” Anning asked with a smile, ”Are ghosts chasing you?”

Ning Ruoxi, still a bit scared, replied: ”No, it’s that Mr. Rong found out I resigned. He wouldn’t let me leave and tried to have someone stop me.”

As she spoke, Ning Ruoxi patted her chest: ”Mr. Yun, it’s a good thing you came to pick me up. Otherwise, I might not have been able to leave.”

Anning’s gaze flickered: ”I see, he’s being quite excessive, isn’t he?”

Anning turned around to face Ning Ruoxi and whispered softly: ”Ruoxi, do you think Rong Junhao has been lying down too long and has turned a bit psychopathic?”

Ning Ruoxi troubled brow furrowed: ”It seems like he might be a little. He’s pretty strange, anyway. Now whenever I see him, I get scared. He used to be so nice back in high school.”

Anning nodded: ”He was nice in college too. It’s scary to see the way he looks at people now. Thankfully, I broke off the engagement before he woke up. Otherwise, with a fiancé like that, I’d be scared to death.”

”Thankfully, thankfully.” Ning Ruoxi also felt relieved for Anning: ”Someone as good as you, I don’t think he deserves you.”
