The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After Anning finished eating, she talked to Pei Yu and Pei Anyi about her household affairs.

Pei Yu didn’t care about these matters.

In her heart, the house belonged to her brother, and she was going to get married. As long as she had enough to eat and drink, she didn’t care who managed the household.

Pei Anyi didn’t take it to heart either.

She didn’t need money from the family. Every time she was able to snatch several men who would buy her food and clothes. Whatever she lacked, she could always find a way to get someone to buy it for her, and sometimes, when there was extra, she’d bring it home to share with her sisters. She simply looked down on the things at home.

Seeing the two of them didn’t care, Anning decided, ”Then that’s settled. I’ll go to town another day to inquire about the loan situation.”

Pei Anyi quickly said, ”I know someone at the credit union. I’ll help you ask.”

”All right.” Anning agreed readily. ”Do it quickly. The sooner I get the loan, the sooner I can buy chickens and such.”

As Pei Anyi tidied up the dishes, she said, ”I’ll ask tomorrow.”

Anning didn’t help with tidying up; she got up and walked out. ”I’m going out for a walk.”

Once outside, Anning walked along the village road intending to take a good look around and see what other projects could be done.

After walking for a while, someone chased after her from behind.

”Anning.” Anning turned around to see it was Yang Baolin from the Yangs.

”Baolin, what’s up?”

Yang Baolin caught up to Anning, hesitated and said, ”Well, I... I’m afraid our thing won’t work out.”

Anning nodded, ”If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out.”

Yang Baolin was taken aback for a moment, then said, ”Don’t be sad. I know we’ve been together for years, and suddenly saying it won’t work, you must be displeased. But I have no choice. I like you, I’m telling the truth. I’ve liked you since we were kids, but my parents aren’t willing, and I can’t cause discord at home, I...”

Riding happily on a bicycle to find Anning, Xiao Yuan arrived just in time to hear this and his face immediately turned green.

”It’s okay.” Anning smiled. ”Our families live across from each other, we’ve been old neighbors for decades. Let’s not cause disharmony between the two families because of us. Let’s just say we were not meant to be. Since it can’t work out, can you return the things I gave you when you have a chance?”

Yang Baolin looked at Anning in a daze. ”Can, can I not return them? The things I gave you, don’t return them either, let’s just keep them as a memento.”

He was really reluctant to return them.

Looking at Anning now made his heart ache. It felt as if his whole body had been drained of strength. Thinking about how he couldn’t work together with Anning in the future, couldn’t laugh and talk together and might have to watch Anning get married to someone else made Yang Baolin’s nose turn sour and tears started to fall. ”The things we’ve exchanged from childhood aren’t just a few. Honestly, it’s a hassle to sort them all out. Besides, even if we can’t be together, I still want you to call me Baolin. If you ever need anything, come to me, I’ll definitely help you. Let’s just keep those things as memories, okay?”

It almost seemed he was pleading with Anning.

But Anning didn’t budge at all. ”Baolin, you should return them. You’ll marry someone in the future, and if your wife sees my things, it’ll cause trouble. Since it can’t work out, let’s end it cleanly, don’t you agree?”

Yang Baolin, with tears in his voice, reached out to take Anning’s hand.

Anning dodged sideways. ”Baolin, I have things to do. I’ll be leaving. When you have time, gather my things and send them to the little room. I’ll send your things there too. From now on, let’s be strangers.”

Saying this, Anning hurriedly wanted to leave.

Yang Baolin couldn’t bear it.

He quickly chased after her. ”Anning, I’ll introduce you to someone.”

Upon hearing this, Anning almost turned around to give Yang Baolin a kick.

”No need.”

”I’m serious. Our thing is over, but I’m still your brother. I want what’s best for you. I have a buddy, his family conditions are pretty good, and he’s a good person... Anning, you have to trust me, I wouldn’t deceive you.”

Yang Baolin’s clumsy maneuvering almost amused Anning.

She abruptly stopped, turned back to look at Yang Baolin. ”Yang Baolin, on what basis are you telling me this? And introducing your ex-girlfriend to your buddies, only you’d come up with such an idea. What’s more, you plan to use the guise of visiting your buddies to see me? Are you still hoping for something between us?”

Yang Baolin’s face flushed red.

”I didn’t.” He hurriedly waved his hands, but his demeanor showed his guilt.

”Since he’s your buddy, don’t deceive him.” Anning sneered. ”Stop following me.”

Anning jogged a bit further. When she turned back, Yang Baolin was already out of sight, and she exhaled easily. ”What kind of person is that.”

Where was Yang Baolin?

He had been blindfolded and dragged to a small grove on the side of the road.

”What? Who’s setting me up?”

Yang Baolin couldn’t see anything, being pulled along; he anxiously shouted.

Afterwards, he felt a shove, and then fists and slaps began landing on him.

His back, stomach, chest, many parts of his body felt painful from the beating.

”Guys, let’s talk this out.” Yang Baolin said while enduring the pain. ”I don’t think I’ve offended you; what’s this about? You might have mistaken me for someone else.”

The guy didn’t care about him, and after hitting enough, somehow found a rope and tied Yang Baolin to a big tree outside the grove, leaving with a kick.

Anning wandered leisurely along the small path.

Xiaxi Village is primarily an agricultural village. There are many fields, mostly good fields. Besides, a river runs along the edge of the village, with some paddy fields by the river, usually for growing rice.

Not far from Anning’s house is a derelict pond, and a few small hills. Honestly, it’s pretty much like most villages, nothing unusual about it.

Anning went around measuring the area of those dry fields from afar and squatted down to grab a handful of soil, smelling it and carefully examining the soil quality.

Having been an agricultural expert in many lifetimes, she was quite knowledgeable about soil. She could tell that Xiaxi Village’s fields were well-kept.

Villagers nowadays use chemical fertilizers, but they also use farmyard manure yearly, so the land around here is quite fertile.

After checking the soil quality, she thought of heading towards the pond.

Before she reached the pond, Xiao Yuan caught up with Anning.

”Ningning.” Xiao Yuan called out.

Anning turned back and laughed, ”You came.”

Xiao Yuan rode his bicycle to Anning’s side, stopping. ”Yes, I’m here.”

Anning said no more and took Xiao Yuan’s hand to head towards the pond.

”The Feng Shui here isn’t bad.”

Xiao Yuan immediately commented on Feng Shui upon seeing the pond.

Anning was gauging the pond’s depth and size, ”It’s probably close to two meters deep, and the area is not small. It’ll take some effort to change the water, but it’s good for raising fish, you can plant lotus, and raise some fish...”
