The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning’s outburst truly shocked the whole family.

”Lao Si, what are you doing?”

Liu Dalian quickly went to stop Anning: ”Why are you hitting your sister, put down the broom, don’t hit anymore...”

Even Wu Shuhua was too frightened to cry.

She got up and said, ”In-law, I have something at home, I’ll leave first then.”

Pei Anxian received several hits on her body, and Pei Anjing’s back was stinging with pain.

Pei Anxian started crying: ”Lao Si, why are you hitting me? Do you still want to come back to your parental home after you’re married?”

Anning angrily replied: ”If you don’t like staying at home, then leave, there are four girls in the family, and just because of you, nobody else can marry into the family? Damn it, if you push me, I’ll kick you out and find a son-in-law to marry into the family. Then none of you will think about coming back to your parent’s home.”

These words genuinely scared Pei Anxian a bit.

Pei Anjing quickly explained: ”I didn’t mean that, it’s mainly Eldest Sister...”

”And you.” Anning threw the broom to the ground, put her hands on her hips, and cursed: ”Always making a fuss about everything, how much do you have to do, after getting married, just settle down a bit, don’t keep running back to your parent’s home. Have you watched too many idol dramas, or what? What are you thinking all day? Forcing Second Brother-in-law to comply with you on everything. He has to look good, be able to earn money, and even work like a slave for you. How do you always think of such wonderful things? If there really was such a man, would it be your turn?”

Saying this, Anning turned and said to Liu Dalian: ”Go, get Second Sister’s ID card and let her have a good look at herself.”

Liu Dalian trembled with fear: ”Take the ID card for what?”

”So she can see herself clearly.”

Anning didn’t show any mercy, after scolding the eldest and second, she began reprimanding Liu Dalian: ”Mom, can you straighten your back? These two are your daughters, not your ancestors. If they are misbehaving, if they are being brats, just hit them, hit them hard. There’s no need to indulge and pamper them like this.”

”It’s just that... I feel bad hitting them, besides your father doesn’t allow it either.” Liu Dalian lowered her head and spoke particularly cautiously to Anning. After speaking, she glanced up at Anning timidly, afraid of upsetting Anning.

”By the way, where is my dad?” Anning turned her head to look around, but didn’t see Pei Laoshi.

”Dad went to Wang Erma’s house at the village entrance to play mahjong again.” Pei Anjing saw she couldn’t hide it, so she confessed honestly.

Anning was irritated once more.

This family is really something, leaving Anning speechless.

In the Pei family, without exception, everyone was annoying.

But, they were genuinely fond of Anning. They might wrong others, do all sorts of ridiculous things to others, but they never did even one thing wrong to Anning.

Therefore, no matter how demanding or unreasonable they were, Anning really couldn’t abandon them. Even if it exhausted her, she had to bear the burden of this family.

Anning’s dad, Pei Laoshi, seemed honest but was actually a gossip-loving gambling addict.

Her mom, Liu Dalian, was truly honest, to the point of being weak and simple-minded. If someone gave her a stick, she’d take it as a needle. Most importantly, she pampered the four daughters beyond reason, willing to sacrifice herself for them.

The Eldest, Pei Anxian, was both lazy and greedy. How lazy? Even the water she drank had to be brought to her, she would rather lie than sit, and rather sit than stand. When she craves something, it has to be made for her.

Because of this, no family dared to take her in. The Pei family had no choice but to take in a son-in-law, an honest but poor man with many brothers, just to serve Pei Anxian.

The Second Sister, Pei Anjing, perhaps read too many romance novels and constantly fantasized about marrying some domineering CEO or gentle nobleman, without any skills, just dreaming. After getting married, she was always troubling Second Brother-in-law, forcing him to be both financially supportive and romantic. If slightly dissatisfied, she would run back to her parental home to stir things up.

The Third Sister, Pei Anyi, was a complete ”green tea” type. Pei Anyi was good-looking, dressed well, and clever, using her beauty to get many young men to buy her food and clothes or work for her. She kept them dangling and agreed to none, waiting for the best deal.

Additionally, there was a younger aunt at home, Pei Yu.

This Pei Yu was even more of a character. While Pei Anyi pretended, Pei Yu didn’t even bother. She was inherently flirtatious, having multiple boyfriends even in middle school. After graduating, she didn’t continue her studies and spent every day in relationships.

When Pei Anyi found men, it was to get food and clothes, and she would even bring some home so the family could benefit. Pei Yu, on the other hand, just wanted to enjoy herself. She would be with one person today and another tomorrow, gaining a bad reputation. Mention of her would provoke shaking heads in the neighboring villages.

Among the women in the Pei family, only Anning turned out relatively okay, but she was dragged down by her three sisters and little aunt. When women heard she was the Fourth Daughter of the Pei Family, they dared not get close; men just wanted to see if she was like her little aunt, wanting to take advantage.

Even with all this, they liked eating, wearing fancy outfits, liked men—Anning could fulfill this. Yet, the most important thing was, these women in the family had no sense of right or wrong, acting ridiculously immature, except to Anning—they did whatever they pleased with everyone else. If irritated, they’d curse without sparing anyone.

Like the Eldest, Pei Anxian, recently when an uncle from a different branch of the family came to borrow a shovel, he accidentally snagged on a piece of clothing that Pei Anxian had hung in the yard, dirtying one of her outer garments. Seeing this, she paid no mind to whether he was an uncle and cursed his ancestors fiercely, almost causing him to faint.

Afterward, it was only Anning who found out about this and forced Pei Anxian to apologize to that uncle, sincerely admitting her wrongs, preventing the family from cutting ties. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

And today, the reason Wu Shuhua came to the Pei family to cause trouble was entirely due to Pei Anjing’s mischief.

Pei Anjing had been married for over six months and recently found out she was pregnant. She was initially delighted but because Second Brother-in-law came home late one night and didn’t appease her properly due to exhaustion, she started causing trouble, claiming that Second Brother-in-law didn’t love her anymore and had someone else outside, crying and returning to her parental home.

Afterward, she refused to have the child, saying childbirth would ruin her figure, fearing Second Brother-in-law would despise her more, and worried that if Second Brother-in-law had a change of heart, she’d have to raise the child alone, turning into a tragic figure.

Liu Dalian, knowing only how to coddle her daughters, did whatever they said. When Pei Anjing insisted on not having the child, she had no choice but to give Pei Anjing abortion pills.

After taking the pills, Liu Dalian realized something. She sought out a woman in the village known for accurately predicting the gender of babies to give Pei Anjing a check. The woman said Pei Anjing was carrying a son.

Upon hearing it was a boy, Liu Dalian regretted it on the spot. Pei Anjing calmed down and wanted the child again, so the mother and daughter hastily went to get medication to preserve the pregnancy.

With so much fuss, the news reached Pei Anjing’s mother-in-law, Wu Shuhua, who upon hearing it, was furious. Unable to hold it in, she rushed to the Pei family to make a scene, declaring that if her grandson was lost, Liu Dalian would have to pay with her life.

Seeing Wu Shuhua’s fuss, Pei Anxian, feeling very troubled, vented her anger on Pei Anjing, trying to force her to leave.

Thus, these two started quarreling.

Anning had just separated the two and upon hearing Pei Laoshi went off to play mahjong, felt both angry and exhausted.

”Eldest Sister, go lie down in your room.”

Anning glanced at Pei Anxian and pointed to her room. Pei Anxian complied and obediently went in.

Anning then looked at Pei Anjing: ”You too, go lie down. If you come out to fight and cause trouble again, see how I deal with you.”

Pei Anjing, frightened, shrank her neck: ”I’ll lie down, but I’m not going back to my in-laws.”

”We’ll discuss it when Second Brother-in-law arrives,” Anning left this remark and then said to Liu Dalian: ”Mom, go make dinner.”

Pei Anxian immediately said: ”Mom, I want to eat meat, braised pork.”

Anning glared at her: ”Why not just braise you?”

Pei Anxian hastily waved her hand in fear: ”Never mind, I won’t eat, I won’t eat.”

”Cook millet porridge and make some vegetables, use less oil. Eldest Sister ate too much meat days ago, eat some greens to cleanse the stomach.”

Anning instructed Liu Dalian.

Liu Dalian dutifully complied: ”Alright, I’ll go do it now.”

Anning returned to her room to put on a coat.

Liu Dalian popped her head out from the kitchen: ”Lao Si, where are you going?”

Anning replied through clenched teeth: ”To find my dad.”
