The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning woke up the next day, and her phone rang before she even had a chance to wash up.

The call was from Ms. Li, sounding quite anxious: ”Ningning, please come and check on Jun Hao, he... he’s having a tantrum, refusing to eat or drink...”

”Auntie, don’t worry, just tell Brother Jun Hao that I’ll be there shortly. Let him drink some water first, and have some porridge.”

Anning softly comforted Ms. Li with a few words, and after hanging up, she wasn’t in any hurry. She leisurely washed up and had breakfast.

Xiao Yuan wasn’t pleased with her going to the Rong Family, so Anning said to him, ”I have to go and see for myself what exactly is going on with Rong Junhao. Otherwise, if he causes trouble in the future, what should I do?”

Xiao Yuan could only swallow his bitterness and take Anning there.

When Anning got out of the car at the Rong Family’s place, she gave Xiao Yuan a kiss: ”Didn’t you say you had to buy something? Go ahead, buy whatever you want, enjoy yourself with it. Oh, and remember to tidy up your hair.”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”I’ll go to the barber first and then shop.”

”Okay.” Anning tidied the collar of his shirt for him: ”You don’t need to pick me up later, I’ll have the Rong Family’s driver take me to the company.”

”Don’t stay here too long.” Xiao Yuan disliked Anning and Rong Junhao being together. He always felt Rong Junhao wasn’t simple and might be plotting something against Anning.

”Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.” Anning, with a smile, reassured Xiao Yuan before entering the Rong Family villa.

She went to Rong Junhao’s room, where he was drinking porridge, but she didn’t see Ning Ruoxi.

She looked at Rong Junhao, then whispered to Ms. Li: ”Where’s Nurse Ning? Why don’t I see her?”

Ms. Li became a bit angry when discussing this: ”It’s all because of Jun Hao. Ruoxi is such a good child, taking care of him so attentively, but he broke a bowl this morning, yelled at her, and nearly got physical. Ruoxi doesn’t dare go near him anymore.”

Anning’s eyes narrowed slightly: ”I’ll go see her later.”

”Good, you’re around the same age, you should be able to communicate well. Please comfort her for me and tell her not to take Jun Hao seriously.”

Ms. Li sighed: ”What’s wrong with Jun Hao? He’s suddenly throwing a tantrum...”

Anning chuckled: ”Brother Jun Hao just woke up, he’s not used to everything yet, and he can’t get out of bed; his body must be uncomfortable. It’s inevitable for him to be irritable, but when he can move around, his mood will improve.”

”I hope so.” Ms. Li said, frowning.

She fed Rong Junhao some porridge and then stood up: ”You chat with Jun Hao, I’ll head out.”

Anning nodded in agreement.

She pulled up a chair and sat down, looking solemnly at Rong Junhao: ”I remember you’re not a capricious person; your temper isn’t bad either. Why did you lash out at Nurse Ning? If it’s because of the physical discomfort causing a bad mood, but you’ve never vented anger on others before, why this time...”

Anning hadn’t finished speaking when Rong Junhao suddenly reached out to grab her hand.

Anning quickly dodged away.

Rong Junhao’s face was full of anguish: ”Ningning, why did you call off the engagement?”

Anning blinked, then gave a self-deprecating smile: ”Why? You’re lying here half-dead, like a living corpse. How am I supposed to wait for you like this? I’ve waited for over a year, I can’t wait endlessly. I can’t always think about you; I have to consider Mrs. Yun and my mom. I need to get married and have a child, these are things you can’t give me. Tell me why I would call off the engagement.”

”I can give you those things now.” Rong Junhao got excited: ”I’m awake, I will recover, marry you, we’ll have several children. They can even take your surname Yun. I will take good care of you, I will...”

Anning raised a hand: ”Stop. I never go back on my decisions. Since I’ve already called off the engagement, there’s no need to rekindle things. Besides, I’m well aware that I don’t love you. Before, it was a brief whim when I got engaged. I’ve gone through a lot now, and thought things through, I don’t want a respectful but distant marriage. I want to be with someone I love.”

She smiled at Rong Junhao: ”I also hope you can find someone you truly love and live a happy life.”

Rong Junhao looked deeply at Anning, seeing her resolve, he smiled sadly: ”Without you, how can I talk of happiness.”

”If you’re fixated on this, then we have nothing more to discuss.” Anning said, preparing to stand up.

This time, Rong Junhao acted especially fast, grabbing Anning’s hand.

Anning lowered her head, looking at Rong Junhao’s hand, a hint of coldness in her eyes.

She forcefully shook off Rong Junhao: ”If you’re worried about the Rong Family, I can continue to help manage it for a while. Also, I’ll put this out here: During my time managing the Rong Family, I haven’t planted any personnel nor done anything detrimental to it. You can be completely assured. When you take over the Rong Family, I’ll fully cooperate. Is that okay? Rong Junhao, I know what kind of person you are, no need to put on a show of deep feelings for me. Just tell me outright what you want.”

Rong Junhao’s gaze was even more pained.

His eyes carried heavy, unresolved sadness: ”Am I really just that to you? Do you hate me that much?”

”I can’t say I hate you nor like you.” Anning replied coldly, ”I’ve said my piece; it’s up to you whether you listen. Goodbye.”

”Ningning.” As Anning walked briskly to the door, Rong Junhao suddenly spoke again: ”Are you disregarding our lifelong friendship?”

”You’re talking about friendship now?” Anning turned back, bursting into laughter, nearly shedding tears: ”Who disregarded our lifelong friendship first? You have the nerve to bring this up with me? When you forced me to death, why didn’t you think about all I did for you from childhood till now? When you were lying half-dead in the hospital for years, what did I sacrifice for you and the Rong Family? After you woke up and ruthlessly betrayed and insulted me, why didn’t you think of those things?”

She wiped the corner of her eyes, one hand gripping the strap of her bag tightly, taking several deep breaths to calm down.

”I...”

Rong Junhao’s throat was dry, his heart aching. Looking at Anning like this, he couldn’t say a single word.

Anning laughed: ”Take care.”

She pulled open the door and rushed out.

Rong Junhao watched Anning run out and slammed the door shut heavy-handedly, disheartened, hitting his leg.

At this moment, he wished he could recover instantly, for his body to be well immediately.

If he could move freely, he would definitely chase after Anning and ask her about everything.

This moment, Rong Junhao’s mind was in turmoil.

He sat dazedly for a while, suddenly starting to laugh, tears in his eyes.

Indeed, when Anning proposed to annul the engagement, he should have realized, Anning must have memories of the past life.

He clearly recalled that in the past life, at this time Anning was still busy managing the Rong Family and the Yun Family, balancing company management with worrying about his illness. How could she have time to think of engagements?

Additionally, the Anning of that lifetime was deeply in love with him; she’d do anything for him, how could she annul the engagement?

”Heh.”

Rong Junhao laughed, but his heart was filled with panic.

With Anning having memories of that past life, she surely hates him intensely, not just hatred but significant dislike.

Given this, how could he ever have Anning in his life again?
