The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning didn’t care what Rong Junhao thought, nor did she know that Rong Junhao could imagine such a grand drama.

She had been very busy these days.

Mrs. Yun needed to transform, which required a lot of work, and over the years, the management had become somewhat corrupt, with lots of opportunists, embezzlers, and nepotism. Anning had to seize the time to clean up the pests, and she also needed to handle the lab matters, truly making her busy from dawn till dusk.

She was busy for several days in a row, barely having time to eat, and had Feng Na or the secretary from the secretary’s office go out to buy her meals, which she would quickly gulp down.

Of course, no matter how busy Anning was, she still had to call Xiao Yuan and Ms. Xu.

On this day, Anning finally settled the lab matters and caught quite a few pests in the company, with all the evidence gathered. She also found a lot of leverage against them, just waiting to clear them out in the meeting.

After being busy for so many days, Anning finally had some time to rest.

She asked An Xin, ”How is A Yuan doing?”

An Xin reported honestly, ”Everything is normal. Ning Ruoxi is very methodical in her work and diligent, and A Yuan has also gotten the hang of filming.”

Anning nodded and stood up to call Feng Na, ”Arrange for me to visit the crew.”

Feng Na quickly called Yu Yi and arranged transportation and other things for Anning.

Meanwhile, Rong Junhao could finally stand up.

The first thing he did after standing was to visit the Yun family.

Having learned from previous experiences, Rong Junhao called Ms. Xu in advance to set a time.

When he went over, Ms. Xu was waiting at home.

Rong Junhao brought many things, including a set of jewelry from Ms. Xu’s favorite brand.

He put down the things as he walked in and smiled, ”Auntie.”

Ms. Xu got up and smiled, ”Oh, it’s finally okay. You have no idea, during the time you were down, Ningning and I were so worried. Come on, sit down, don’t stand, it’s exhausting.”

Rong Junhao sat down next to Ms. Xu, ”I really owe Ningning a lot for the previous matters. If it weren’t for her... I had planned to visit earlier, but my body hadn’t recovered after waking up, and I couldn’t walk, so it got delayed till now. Auntie, please don’t mind.”

”It’s okay, it’s okay,” Ms. Xu waved her hand and asked the nanny to bring tea, ”How is your body now? Is there anywhere uncomfortable?”

”All good now,” Rong Junhao’s smile carried some joy, ”I didn’t expect to recover so quickly; maybe it’s a blessing from above.”

”Yes, a blessing from above,” Ms. Xu said effortlessly, ”But you still need to be careful. You’ve just recovered, so don’t mess around. Pay attention to eating and drinking, and don’t drink alcohol for a while. Take good care of yourself.”

”Okay, I’ll listen to Auntie,” Rong Junhao nodded with a smile.

He took a sip of tea, ”Besides, I have something to discuss with Auntie this time.”

Ms. Xu looked at him, signaling him to continue.

Rong Junhao thought for a moment, ”When I was unconscious, Ningning said she wanted to break off the engagement. My mom thought I didn’t know when I would wake up, so she didn’t want to delay Ningning and broke off the marriage, but that wasn’t my intention. I don’t want to break off the engagement.”

Ms. Xu knew that Rong Junhao was here to talk about this, and she was in a difficult position, ”You know Ningning’s temperament; once she makes a decision, she hardly changes it. Besides, she’s an adult now, so I can’t really do anything about it.”

Rong Junhao didn’t expect Ms. Xu to make the decision; he just wanted to discuss, ”Auntie, I’ve grown up with Ningning; our families know each other well, and we’ve had feelings for so many years. If Ningning is willing to marry me, I will definitely treat her well for a lifetime. Auntie knows my character and should have peace of mind.”

Seeing Ms. Xu nod in agreement, Rong Junhao continued, ”I don’t mean to force anything; I just want to pursue Ningning again. If Ningning accepts me, I’m happy. Even if Ningning doesn’t accept me, I’ve tried and won’t have regrets. I’m just here to seek your consent.”

What could Ms. Xu say?

The reason Anning broke off the engagement was because Rong Junhao became a vegetative state, which wasn’t his fault. If she were to refuse Rong Junhao’s attempt to pursue Anning again, it would sound unreasonable.

”Alright, you young people handle it yourselves,” Ms. Xu ultimately agreed, ”But let me say this first: if Ningning isn’t willing to accept your pursuit, I hope you don’t force it. After all, there are many good girls, and we don’t want to ruin our families’ long-standing relationship over this, wouldn’t you agree?”

Rong Junhao said with a smile, ”Of course, Auntie. Rest assured, I definitely won’t hurt Ningning.”

Having discussed the important matters, Rong Junhao prepared to leave, and Ms. Xu invited him to stay for a meal, but he declined.

Ms. Xu escorted him out, watched him drive away, and couldn’t help but sigh, ”What a mess this is.”

She then called Anning.

”Ningning, Junhao came over today.”

She recounted Rong Junhao’s intent to pursue Anning again, ”What do you think about this? You’ve known Junhao for years, and you’ve just met Xiao Yuan a few days ago...”

Anning was heading to the film set then, ”Mom, a good horse doesn’t turn back to graze; once an engagement is broken, there’s no reason to go back on it. Besides, I’m very happy with Xiao Yuan now, so... fine, I know about it now; don’t worry about it. I’ll handle it myself.”

Once she hung up the phone, Anning’s face looked a bit cold.

Feng Na cautiously glanced at her: ”Mr. Yun, are you going to visit the set? Should we bring something?”

Anning thought for a moment: ”Just call for some takeout delivery, send some food and drinks to the crew over there. Also, order a bouquet...never mind, forget the flowers, I’ll get him something else later.”

Feng Na hurriedly took out her phone to order takeout, all the while muttering to herself that Mr. Yun was becoming increasingly charismatic these days. Sitting beside her felt both oppressive and intimidating, she wondered if Mr. Xiao could handle it.

When they arrived at the set, Yu Yi was already waiting.

Seeing Anning get out of the car, he quickly stepped forward: ”Mr. Yun.”

Anning smiled: ”Producer Yu, sorry to keep you waiting.”

”No, no, it’s an honor to have you here, Mr. Yun.” Yu Yi led Anning into the filming area.

When they arrived, it happened to be when Xiao Yuan was shooting a scene.

This scene was about Xiao Yuan’s character confessing to the female lead.

Xiao Yuan’s character, the male secondary role, was a young prince. He seemed gentle and talented, appeared to be good to everyone, but in truth was indifferent and lonely, with hardly anyone able to reach his heart.

Yet, the female lead somehow drew his attention, and during their interactions, the young prince fell for her, silently protecting her. During investigations, he solved many problems for her.

Even if his confession failed and she did not accept him, the young prince never became angry but continued to care for and help her.

He was one of those characters who treated the female lead like first love, even if she hurt him countless times.

Xiao Yuan was dressed in a luxurious robe, his hair tied up, and adorned with a jade crown, portraying the scholarly young gentleman perfectly.

He looked at the female lead with deep affection, contemplated for a long time before saying, ”I have affection for you...”

Anning sat nearby, watching the scene with great interest.

To be honest, Xiao Yuan’s acting was really exceptional; he captured the prince’s deep emotions and nervousness during the confession flawlessly.

Regardless of the female lead’s performance, many girls on set had stars in their eyes, completely captivated by the young prince.

With the weather getting chilly, Ning Ruoxi originally prepared warm clothes, waiting to hand them to Xiao Yuan after filming, then she saw Anning and quickly ran over: ”Mr. Yun.”

Anning nodded with a smile: ”Are you adjusting well?”

Ning Ruoxi immediately beamed, her smile radiant: ”Very well, everyone is great, the staff are quite friendly. I’ve met a lot of people here and everyone is taking good care of us.”

Anning pointed at a nearby seat: ”Sit.”

Ning Ruoxi sat down: ”Um...Rong Junhao hasn’t been giving you any trouble, has he?”

Anning shook her head: ”No.”

Ning Ruoxi breathed a sigh of relief: ”That’s good. Honestly, I haven’t offended him; he wouldn’t keep pursuing me.”

Anning thought to herself that he very well might, but she wasn’t about to tell Ning Ruoxi: ”As long as you’re adjusting well, there’s no need to worry about Rong Junhao anymore.”

As they were talking, Xiao Yuan came over.

Ning Ruoxi quickly got up and handed the warm clothes to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan took them and put them on, then snuggled beside Anning speaking softly.

His intimate gestures with Anning made it clear to anyone watching that they were a couple.

The actress playing the female lead was a junior from a film school named Qi Yue, whose amiable looks and decent acting brought her recognition. Newcomer Jin Rui, playing the male lead, was also her classmate, and they got along quite well.

There were also various supporting roles, a few played by veteran actors, who due to their age had not been cast in a long time. After Anning’s investment, with more funds, Yu Yi invited some veteran actors to support the younger ones.

Since nobody was very famous, there was little scene-stealing drama in the crew, and the leads and supporting roles all got along well.

Qi Yue sat together with Jin Rui and another veteran actor playing the Empress Dowager, whom everyone called Sun Mama, and whispered, ”Granny Sun, is that Xiao Yuan’s girlfriend over there?”

Sun Mama looked over: ”Seems so, judging by their appearance she seems older than Xiao Yuan.”

”Being a little older is good too.” Jin Rui said while drinking water, ”Older ones are more nurturing.”

Qi Yue rolled her eyes at Jin Rui: ”So you want a girlfriend to take care of you?”

Jin Rui touched his nose: ”I didn’t say that, I was talking about Xiao Yuan.”

Sun Mama gazed at Anning, feeling somewhat familiar, but unable to recall where she had seen her before.
