The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Wang Erma’s house, a room full of Old Masters were sighing and picking up the fallen mahjong tiles one by one.

”Tell me, how did Fourth Son Pei end up like this? She was such a fine young girl before, looked so gentle, who would’ve thought she’d be so fierce.”

”Really too uncultured, running to someone else’s house and flipping the table, never seen anything like it.”

”We’d better not play with Pei Laoshi anymore in the future.”

”Who dares to play with him.”

”Alright, hurry up and clean up, once we’re done, we’ll start a new round.”

With the thought of not fussing with a young girl, these Old Masters didn’t criticize Anning too harshly.

However, on the way home, Pei Laoshi kept nagging.

”Lao Si, you can’t be like this in the future, running to someone else’s house and flipping the table, where have you seen such behavior.”

”Who do you blame, you were the one who went to someone else’s house to play mahjong.” Anning rolled her eyes at Pei Laoshi: ”I’m not afraid of what others say, let them talk if they want to, if you gamble or make trouble again, I’ll flip the table, not only that, I’ll hit people too.”

As she said this, Anning waved her small fist: ”Dad, if you still acknowledge me as your daughter, listen a bit, we can do anything, why must it be mahjong.”

The father and daughter argued all the way home like this.

By the time they got home, Liu Dalian had already prepared the food.

Anning patted the door panel: ”Hey, you two in there, come out and eat now.”

Pei Anxian and Pei Anjing both rushed out to eat.

When Pei Anxian saw the table full of greens, her face turned down: ”Mom, why is it all vegetables, I want to eat meat.”

Anning slammed the chopsticks on the table: ”If you want to eat meat, cook it yourself, you act all picky after it’s cooked, spoiling you.”

She turned her head around: ”Where is Third Sister? Where’s Little Aunt?”

”Who knows.” Pei Anjing rolled her eyes: ”Little Aunt probably ran off with someone again, Third most likely went out to eat something nice, a few days ago I saw her getting close to a guy in town, I guess that guy took her out to eat and watch a movie.”

Anning sighed: ”Then let’s just eat, no need to wait for them.”

While serving the meal, Anning told Liu Dalian again: ”Mom, did you set aside some food? I remember Brother-in-law had an early shift today, he should be back by afternoon.”

Liu Dalian quickly replied: ”Yes, I did, I kept some in the pot.”

Only then did Anning signal to continue serving the meal.

She served herself a bowl of rice, silently finished it, and after eating, put down the bowl and turned to Pei Laoshi: ”Dad, our family can’t go on like this, Mom isn’t in great health, can’t do heavy labor, you’re working odd jobs, and Brother-in-law is a temp worker at the factory in town, how much can we really earn? Look around, many families in the village have renovated their houses, but we’re still living in the old one, we need to find a way to make money, at least to rebuild the house, plus, there are many things in the future that will cost money, think about it, when Big Sister has a child, won’t raising a child cost money? Kids these days are high maintenance, it’s going to cost a fortune to raise them.”

As soon as she said this, Pei Laoshi started to worry.

”Then how do you suggest we make money, I want to earn, but can I really do it?”

”I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, I want to start a farm, raise chickens and pigs first, and expand when we’ve made money.” Anning discussed with Pei Laoshi: ”Dad, what do you think, is my idea feasible?”

”No way.” Pei Anxian was the first to oppose: ”Raising chickens and pigs is dirty, besides, do you know how? What if you end up killing them, how much would it cost?”

Pei Anjing also added: ”Yeah, raising chickens is exhausting and dirty, and it stinks, no way I’m doing it.”

”Then go back to your in-laws’ home.” Anning gave her a glare: ”A married daughter shouldn’t boss around her parent’s home.”

Pei Anjing shrunk her neck and stopped talking.

Anning angrily said: ”All of you, talk about it like it’s hard, fine, if you won’t do it, I’ll do it myself, just don’t be envious when I make money.”

”I, I’ll do it with you.” Liu Dalian raised her hand: ”I can raise chickens, I have before, just not too many, if we raise more, I’m not sure, but I can learn.”

Pei Laoshi thought for a while: ”Then let’s start by trying to raise chickens.”

He said to Liu Dalian: ”Hey, take out the passbook later, see how much money we have left, and plan how many chickens we can raise.”

”No need to use our family money, I can take out a loan.”

Anning looked at Pei Laoshi: ”Nowadays those credit societies all have loan quotas, we can apply for a small loan.”

”That won’t do, that’s borrowing the country’s money, what if we lose it and can’t pay back, there’ll be a lawsuit.” Pei Laoshi was frightened when he heard this, quickly shaking his head to deny it.

”It’s fine.” Anning was courageous, besides, she was confident, if she raised chickens, there’d be no loss at all.

Even though Anning had just arrived, she had already asked An Xin to check the data, comparing the chicken and egg prices from the past couple of years, prices of eggs have been steadily rising, plus she had some memory from before, knowing that egg prices haven’t fluctuated much in the recent years, so if they raised chickens without disease or bird flu, there’d only be profit within two or three years.

”I’ll go to the town’s credit society tomorrow to inquire about how much we can borrow.”

Pei Laoshi still seemed reluctant: ”Let’s use our own money, if not, borrow some...”

”Can you borrow anything?” Anning raised an eyebrow at Pei Laoshi: ”Who’s unaware that we’re dirt poor in the village, who’s unaware that you’re known for gambling, Mom can’t do any work, the four of us sisters only cause trouble, who’d be foolish enough to lend us money?”

This rebuke left Pei Laoshi speechless.

Anning slammed the table again: ”So it’s decided, there’s also something quite important, let me just lay it out, you all know this family, Dad is too naive and can’t control himself, going outside to gamble and boast, he’s not suitable as the head of the family, Mom is just accommodating and has no opinions of her own, not suitable for managing the household, Big Sister is lazy, Second Sister is married, Third Sister is always out, after considering, the household affairs should be my responsibility.”

Pei Laoshi, Liu Dalian, the Eldest, and the Second all stood there stunned listening to this.

Anning took advantage of their shock to continue: ”Sort out the household registration book, each person’s ID card, and the family’s possessions today and hand them over to me, from now on, if anyone needs money, report to me, I’ll decide whether to give you pocket money based on how much work you’ve done each day, whether you’ve caused trouble, how much you’ve contributed, or whether you’ve created problems. If anyone lazes around or just causes trouble, no matter what they want to do, I won’t give them a single penny.”

Anning’s decisive words scared the four into changing their expressions.

After a while, Pei Anjing came around: ”No, why do you get to control the money, who are you exactly, you’re the youngest, it’s not your turn.”

Anning smiled, picked up the serving spoon, and right in front of Pei Anjing, crushed the solid iron handle into a ball: ”You tell me why?”
