The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Ning Ruoxi asked Xiao Yuan nervously, ”How’s it going with Mr. Yun?”

Xiao Yuan shook his head, ”She’s fine, but she also suspects that it was Rong Junhao who did it.”

Ning Ruoxi truly couldn’t understand, ”How could he do this? I haven’t offended him, and he doesn’t even know you. For him to harm people like this is really too much.”

She asked Xiao Yuan again, ”What should we do now? Who exactly drugged us? Should we let Director Liu investigate?”

Xiao Yuan waved his hand, ”No need to trouble Director Liu. Since Rong Junhao did it, he must have done it very discreetly. Even if Director Liu investigates, he won’t find anything. From now on, we need to be careful about what we eat. Don’t let anyone come near it. Also, bring over the food and drinks you’re having so I can check them.”

”Okay.” Ning Ruoxi was really scared, ”I just drank some water. Should I be worried?”

”It’s okay.” Xiao Yuan reassured her with a smile, ”Just a small sip won’t have much of an impact.”

”That’s good, that’s good.” Ning Ruoxi finally felt relieved, ”I’ll be careful with my meals these days. I’ll make my own food and won’t let anyone else handle it.”

Xiao Yuan nodded, ”Now take the food back to the hotel and throw it away. Then make something simple and bring it over... just keep it simple, a bowl of clear soup noodles will do.”

”Okay.” Ning Ruoxi covered the lunchbox and left with it.

Xiao Yuan took an unopened bottle of mineral water from the side, unscrewed the cap, and drank a big gulp.

After drinking the water, Xiao Yuan got up and took a walk around the set.

During his round, he discovered many strange things.

Before the next set of shots was finished, Xiao Yuan already understood what was going on.

Coincidentally, Ning Ruoxi brought over the noodles she cooked, and Xiao Yuan took the opportunity to eat some while they were hot.

After finishing the noodles, he went to rest in the trailer.

Throughout the entire filming of this web series, until the crew wrapped up, Xiao Yuan didn’t encounter any more incidents.

Ning Ruoxi breathed a big sigh of relief, but she didn’t know how many issues Xiao Yuan had solved for the crew behind the scenes.

After attending the wrap party, Xiao Yuan drove back to Anning’s place.

When he returned home, Anning hadn’t come back yet, so Xiao Yuan rested for a while before starting to cook.

Just as he finished cooking, Anning came back.

She didn’t look in a good mood.

Xiao Yuan put aside the food and immediately went over to ask her, ”What’s wrong?”

Anning rubbed her temples, ”There was a problem at the lab, but it’s resolved now. I’ve just been very tired these past few days.”

”Take a rest first.” Xiao Yuan had Anning sit on the sofa and took out a silver needle to give her some acupuncture, ”Get some sleep.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Anning fell asleep.

Xiao Yuan kept the food warm, then sat on the sofa next to Anning and fell asleep as well.

When they both woke up, Anning seemed much more refreshed.

Xiao Yuan invited Anning to eat together, and while they were eating, Anning said to Xiao Yuan, ”An Xin told me your mom went to your school to find you.”

”I know.” Xiao Yuan peeled a shrimp for Anning and placed it in her bowl, ”This time they might be causing trouble.”

Anning smiled, ”Rong Junhao’s methods have all been used on you—poisoning, poisonous insect technique, Feng Shui, arrays, public opinion, he’s probably going to use everything he can.”

”It’s fine.” Xiao Yuan patted his chest, ”I’m robust enough, let him come, I’m not afraid.”

Anning chuckled, ”Let’s have some fun together tomorrow.”

”Where to?” Xiao Yuan perked up at the mention of fun.

Anning thought for a moment, ”A new amusement park just opened in the city; let’s go there.”

They had lived through so many lifetimes together that both of them had lost track of how old they were, yet they became more childlike, especially Anning, who now loved to play. She enjoyed going to amusement parks, arcades, and various things that kids played with.

Xiao Yuan let Anning have her way, letting her do whatever made her happy.

”Alright, then we’ll need to get up early tomorrow.”

Xiao Yuan added more rice to Anning’s bowl, ”Eat more.”

After finishing the meal, Xiao Yuan made a call to the grandparents of his original self.

He didn’t say much, just exchanged greetings with Grandpa Xiao and Grandma Xiao before hanging up.

Anning knew what Xiao Yuan intended to do; he wanted to first determine the grandparents’ thoughts, see whom they were closer to before making any decisions.

Thankfully, the two elders were still very fond of Xiao Yuan. From the phone call, it was evident that they were very concerned about him and didn’t approve of Mr. Xiao and Mother Xiao’s behavior.

”Now there are two witnesses around.” Xiao Yuan smiled at Anning after the call.

Then, Xiao Yuan made calls to each of his original self’s high school classmates and teachers, reminiscing and saying a lot over the phone.

His original self attended a chaotic vocational high school and was its top graduate since its founding. The teachers remembered him particularly well and spoke about him with pride.

When Xiao Yuan called, the teachers encouraged him to study well in college and bring honor to the school.

Xiao Yuan hesitated several times, and it sounded like he was worried.

Some teachers who liked him were concerned and asked what was wrong, but Xiao Yuan didn’t say much, just that there were some family issues.

When he called his dormmates, Xiao Yuan opened up a lot more, chatting about past events and catching up on their current situations before reluctantly ending the call.

After hanging up, Xiao Yuan told Anning, ”Actually, the vocational high school my original self attended wasn’t too bad. Most students were just passing time, but there were many students with good character. He was smart and got along well with his classmates, learning a lot from them.”

”Like what?” Anning asked with a smile.

”Fighting, singing, playing guitar—he learned all that from his high school classmates.” Xiao Yuan recounted to Anning. ”If the Xiao Family isn’t causing trouble, it’s okay; I can wait to deal with them. But if they start something, these classmates will be witnesses. Hmph, those three fools in the Xiao Family shouldn’t underestimate me. With the demeanor of Xiao Nian, can he study well? If things escalate, retaking exams with Xiao Nian will surely settle it. Moreover, the original self’s and Xiao Nian’s personal conduct are different, and with classmates as witnesses, they won’t gain any advantage.”

”This issue isn’t difficult, just quite disgusting.”

Anning felt a wave of frustration when she thought about it.

Xiao Yuan didn’t seem bothered, ”I’ll handle it.”

Anning nodded.

At a third-rate polytechnic in Dongzhou City, Mother Xiao found the principal and started arguing as soon as she found him, ”My child was clearly here to study, so how does your school say he never came? Where has he been in the past year and more?”

The principal felt troubled, ”Ma’am, please calm down. Did you come over when he registered?”

Mother Xiao shook her head, ”No, my son’s that old, and it wasn’t far, so we just let him go by himself.”

The principal stood up, ”Ma’am, our school really doesn’t have your son. He wasn’t here when school started last year... Don’t just blame our school; it has been over a year. What have you been doing all this time?”

The principal’s question made Mother Xiao truly blush.

The child never attended school, and she hadn’t known where he’d been in all this time. Learning of it now really was quite embarrassing for her as a mother.
