The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Ning Ruoxi returned home in constant fear.

Before she came back, she had called Mrs. Ning, and when she arrived, Mrs. Ning was already waiting at home.

As soon as Ning Ruoxi entered, she hurriedly said, ”Mom, pack up your things. I’ll take you to my grandmother’s place for a while.”

”Why suddenly go to your grandmother’s home?”

Mrs. Ning was a bit puzzled.

Ning Ruoxi pulled out a suitcase while packing Mrs. Ning’s things: ”I have some issues here and can’t take care of you. I’ll send you to the hometown for some time.”

Mrs. Ning held onto Ning Ruoxi: ”I’m not old; I can take care of myself.”

Ning Ruoxi knew that if she didn’t clarify, Mrs. Ning probably wouldn’t leave.

She had no choice but to sit down and tell Mrs. Ning everything that had happened in the past few days.

Mrs. Ning was also scared: ”Ruoxi, how did you offend Mr. Rong? Rong Family... isn’t something we can provoke.”

Ning Ruoxi was equally puzzled: ”Mom, I’m still confused. I really didn’t offend Young Master Rong. I took great care of him while he was lying down, but once he woke up, he looked at me like an enemy. I really don’t understand why. Besides, now is not the time to think about that; I just fear he might retaliate against you if he can’t find me.”

Mrs. Ning tightly held Ning Ruoxi’s hand: ”Is Mr. Yun reliable?”

”I can only rely on Mr. Yun now.” In front of her mother, Ning Ruoxi spoke her true feelings: ”If I don’t stick with Mr. Yun, I truly don’t know what to do. Mom, I’m at a dead end, with only one path to take. No matter good or bad, I have to go down this path. And Mr. Yun seems decent, at least much better than Young Master Rong. Also, I’m following her boyfriend, taking care of his daily needs. If I had any ill intentions, I could harm her boyfriend. If Mr. Yun had ill intentions towards me, she wouldn’t have let me do this.”

That’s indeed true.

Mrs. Ning thought for a while and said, ”So, Mr. Yun is the only one who can save us now. You must work well with them and don’t have any ill thoughts. Moreover, even if you take care of Mr. Xiao’s daily needs and chores, remember to keep your distance to avoid any misunderstandings.”

”I know this.” Ning Ruoxi nodded: ”I will be careful. Mr. Yun and Mr. Xiao are both decent people. I just need to do my duties, and I won’t meddle in other matters.”

Mrs. Ning got up to pack with Ning Ruoxi.

”Don’t bring too much, I only have two days, we need to hurry.”

Ning Ruoxi kept urging Mrs. Ning: ”Once we’re at my grandmother’s place, we can buy daily goods.”

The two of them took less than an hour to pack all the things.

During this time, Ning Ruoxi also booked the plane tickets.

By three or four in the afternoon, Ning Ruoxi and Mrs. Ning were already seated on a plane.

Once the plane landed, Ning Ruoxi and Mrs. Ning rushed to the small village in their hometown.

Anning had An Xin erase all information about Ning Ruoxi booking her ticket and flight, making sure no one could trace it.

Besides flight details, Anning also erased Mrs. Ning’s details on records, such as where Mrs. Ning was born, and her and Ning Ruoxi’s father’s ancestral home, all covered up by An Xin.

Rong Junhao waited for two days but didn’t see Ning Ruoxi return.

He couldn’t help but sneer, ”The little girl is really stubborn, well, I’ll see how long you can last.”

He was overly confident, to the point of arrogance, thinking that Ning Ruoxi had no way out except to plead with him, so he believed she would eventually come back to beg, leading him to miss the optimal moment to seize control over Ning Ruoxi.

Two days later, Ning Ruoxi returned after settling Mrs. Ning.

Before Xiao Yuan joined the crew, Anning took Xiao Yuan back to the Yun Family.

She had previously discussed Xiao Yuan’s matters with Ms. Xu and set up a meeting.

That night, Anning and Xiao Yuan prepared to drive to the old residence.

When they returned, Ms. Xu had the maid prepare all the dishes.

As soon as Anning and Xiao Yuan entered, they saw Ms. Xu sitting on the sofa.

Xiao Yuan greeted Ms. Xu upon entering, ”Hello, Auntie.”

Ms. Xu smiled and nodded, ”You’re here; please sit down. Do you want something to drink?”

Xiao Yuan and Anning sat down: ”No need to bother.”

Ms. Xu looked at Xiao Yuan, her smile deepening: ”Ningning told me you’re three years younger than her.”

Xiao Yuan sat upright and answered seriously, ”Yes, I’m nineteen this year.”

”Still a child.” Ms. Xu sighed, ”You don’t plan to continue studying?”

Xiao Yuan nodded lightly: ”That school wasn’t great. I don’t plan to continue. If I want to study later, I can retake the exam for a better university.”

Anning explained Xiao Yuan’s situation to Ms. Xu, who knew the grievances he suffered: ”You’ve been through hardship, it doesn’t matter if you don’t study; self-study is just as good.”

Anning laughed: ”I also think so. A Yuan wants to enter the entertainment industry now, so I invested a little money for him to act in a film for fun. If he likes it, he can continue; if not, he can pursue something else.”

”That works.”

Ms. Xu had no prejudice against people, especially since she prioritized Anning’s wishes. Whatever Anning liked, she liked.

Ms. Xu had a clear vision; her company was thriving. In the future, Anning wouldn’t have to manage Rong Family matters, so she’d have more energy to focus on her company, which would only progress further. There was no need for any arranged marriages anyway, considering the family’s wealth would last generations. Why force Anning to marry some rich family heir against her wishes?

Since the family didn’t lack money and Anning was capable, it was better for her to find someone she liked, regardless of their background, as long as they had good character.

She viewed Xiao Yuan, with his clear eyebrows and eyes, as someone with a righteous mind. People like this, as long as they stay on the right path, don’t count small faults.

Moreover, Ms. Xu did have a fondness for good looks, and Xiao Yuan’s appearance appealed to her. The more she looked at Xiao Yuan, the more she liked him, naturally treating him kindly.

Ms. Xu chatted with Xiao Yuan for a while before the maid announced the food was ready, prompting Ms. Xu to call for dinner.

The three of them had dinner together, and Ms. Xu said to Xiao Yuan: ”Now that you know the way home, visit often. If Ningning doesn’t have the time, you can come by yourself. Next time you visit, Auntie will cook for you personally.”

Xiao Yuan smiled: ”I can cook too. Next time, Auntie and I can cook together and see who makes the better dish.”

”Sure.” Ms. Xu laughed: ”From now on, the two of us will cook together, and Ningning can be the judge.”

”Okay.” Anning slapped her chest: ”You cook, I eat, I’ll enjoy the meals.”

That evening, Anning and Xiao Yuan stayed at the old residence.

After Anning finished her night routine, Ms. Xu came to have a talk.

At that time, Anning had just finished drying her hair and was planning to look at a project proposal, but she put work aside when Ms. Xu entered.

”Mom, what’s up?”

Ms. Xu sat down: ”Ningning, have you really decided on him?”

Anning pulled out a chair to sit across from Ms. Xu, and answered earnestly: ”It’s him. I really like him; I’ve never felt this way about anyone.”

”It’s good that you like him.” Ms. Xu patted Anning’s hand: ”He’s a good kid, though he’s a bit young, and might be uncertain. But given our family’s situation, considering your looks, he might never find someone better than you.”

Anning burst into laughter: ”Mom, you think I’m perfect in every way. Liking someone isn’t about how good they are, but A Yuan really likes me too. Though he’s young, he’s more mature than others and knows what he wants.”

”Since you’ve decided, I won’t say much.” Ms. Xu was never a meddlesome person and wouldn’t overly constrain Anning: ”Treat him well in the future, don’t bully him because of your status. If you’re settled with him, be true to it and don’t play tricks.”
