The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

This was also a choice made because there was really no other way out.

Just as Yu Yi was thinking that, he got a phone call.

”Is this Producer Yu?”

Yu Yi froze for a second, then remembered he was still a producer: ”Yes, that’s me. And you are?”

”Producer Yu, do you have time now? If you’re free, I’d like to meet you. Our boss knows about your situation, she wants to invest.”

The voice on the phone sounded very textured, anyway to Producer Yu it felt like a beautiful woman’s voice. He was at the end of his rope now—whether this call was just someone messing with him or not, he had to meet this person: ”Okay, I’m free. Where are you?”

”We’re at XX Café.”

She gave an address on the other end, very close to where Yu Yi lived.

Yu Yi jumped up and started changing clothes, saying as he changed, ”Okay, I’ll head over right away, please wait a bit.”

He put on his most decent set of clothes, washed his face, fixed his hair; his whole person looked a lot more spirited. After thinking for a moment, Yu Yi called Liu Siyu and told him to hurry over as well.

When Yu Yi arrived at the café and found the person who’d called, he was stunned for a moment.

Because there were two people sitting at that table, a handsome man and a beautiful woman—both the kind who take your breath away. Especially that young man; he looked very young, but he was ridiculously good-looking, with an unspeakable steady yet gentle air about him.

Most importantly, the young man’s features were very delicate, the kind of face that looks great on camera. When Yu Yi saw him, he seemed to understand something.

He walked over with a smile: ”Hello, you must be Miss Feng.”

Feng Na stood up and shook hands with Yu Yi: ”Producer Yu, please sit.”

Once Yu Yi sat down, Feng Na finally introduced herself: ”Let me introduce myself first. I’m Feng Na, secretary to Mr. Yun of Yun Group.”

Yu Yi started, and then lit up with joy.

Yun Group was a mega-conglomerate. Forget just this city—even nationwide, it was one of the top names. It was said that on last year’s rich list, Mr. Yun only lost by a hair’s breadth and missed becoming the richest person.

Now Yun Group had opened up multiple new lines of business, not only in home appliances; supposedly they were also developing new smart systems and the like. Anyway, as long as that succeeded, the next richest person could very well be Mr. Yun.

With an old-brand company like Yun Group, backed by such deep pockets, even the crumbs that slipped through their fingers would be enough for him to shoot countless dramas.

”Hello, hello.” Yu Yi sprang up, nodding and bowing slightly: ”You mean, Mr. Yun wants to invest in our web series?”

Feng Na smiled.

She pointed at Xiao Yuan: ”Our Mr. Yun can fully finance it, but there’s one condition, and that’s the male second lead role...”

Yu Yi instantly got the hint: ”That’s easy, no problem at all.”

Just Xiao Yuan’s face alone was a guaranteed explosion in popularity, plus the powerful capital backing him—only an idiot would turn that down: ”This teacher... was really born with such looks, and he’s especially suited for the second male lead. That character is practically tailor-made for this teacher.”

By this time, Liu Siyu had rushed over as well. After Feng Na exchanged a few words with him, she said, ”Then it’s settled. Did you bring the contract?”

Liu Siyu hurriedly said, ”Yes, yes, we brought it.”

Feng Na had also brought a contract with her.

So both parties signed the contract, and only after Xiao Yuan had asked clearly about the starting date did he leave with Feng Na.

Feng Na didn’t leave together with Xiao Yuan. She drove herself back to the company, and Xiao Yuan drove back home.

When Xiao Yuan got home, Ning Ruoxi had just finished cooking.

When she saw Xiao Yuan, she asked, ”Where’s Mr. Yun? She didn’t come back?”

Her words had barely fallen when Anning came in.

Anning entered with a smile: ”I could smell it from outside the door. Ruoxi’s cooking really is fragrant.”

Ning Ruoxi was very pleased: ”Cooking is the one skill I can still show off a bit. Hurry and wash your hands, we can eat right away.”

Anning and Xiao Yuan washed their hands. Ning Ruoxi had already set the dishes out. The three of them sat down to eat, and after a few bites Anning praised: ”Ruoxi, if you opened a little restaurant it would definitely be packed. Your cooking is amazing.”

Xiao Yuan nodded as well: ”The dishes Ruoxi makes really are pretty great.”

Ning Ruoxi was embarrassed by their compliments: ”Eat more, if you like it I’ll cook more often from now on.”

As Anning ate, she asked Xiao Yuan, ”Did you sign the contract?”

”Signed.” Xiao Yuan gave a date: ”We’re about to join the crew. I need to get ready properly.”

Ning Ruoxi added, ”Then I need to prepare too. I heard joining the crew for filming can take a long time. I’ll talk to my mom later, and I’ll need to pack more clothes and stuff. Oh, and I should check the weather forecast for the next little while.”

Anning nodded. Once she’d almost finished eating, she said to Ning Ruoxi, ”Rong Junhao’s like a rabid dog. Since he can’t keep you, he’s ruining your reputation everywhere, saying you’re lazy, vain, and wasteful. He’s filed complaints with the hospital you used to work at, and spread it all through the entire medical system. He’s also going around the circle talking trash about you nonstop. He wants to cut off all your exits so you’ll have no way out but to go back and beg him.”

”He—how can he do that?”

Ning Ruoxi felt a chill all over as she listened.

She knew very clearly that if Anning hadn’t given her this job, and if Rong Junhao really did all that, for her mother’s sake, for the sake of survival, she really would end up kneeling in front of Rong Junhao and begging.

”Scum.”

Rong Junhao’s behavior made even Xiao Yuandou sick to his stomach. He slammed his chopsticks on the table and didn’t even want to eat anymore.

”Of course he’s scum.” Anning let out a cold laugh: ”He’s lost even the basic bottom line of being human. He lay in bed for over a year, and Ruoxi carefully took care of him all that time—yet that care turned into hatred. The first thing he did after waking up was to make sure Ruoxi had no way to live. Isn’t that a textbook case of repaying kindness with malice?”

Ning Ruoxi still felt frozen all over.

Anning patted her shoulder: ”Don’t be afraid. You’ve got us, we won’t let him hurt you.”

In that moment, Ning Ruoxi couldn’t hold back anymore. She threw her arms around Anning and burst into tears: ”Thank you, Mr. Yun, I really, really thank you. You saved my life...”
