Reborn As Super Heiress

Because they felt Huo Sining interfered, leading to the loss of a huge source of funds, Tong Jian and his wife were very annoyed, so their gaze towards Huo Sining was filled with hostility:

”We are now Tongtong’s foster parents, and Miss Elisa says she can just take her away, isn’t this too heartless? Aren’t you considering Tongtong’s feelings?”

Huo Sining sneered; she truly didn’t understand how this couple dared to be angry with her.

”Foster parents? Do you two know what the term foster parents means? Do you know how the law determines who is a child’s foster parent? As far as I know, Tongtong is still undocumented and hasn’t been added to your household in Tong’s family register, right? In this situation, her staying with you is just like living under someone else’s roof. Even if you go to court, they definitely wouldn’t rule that you are Tongtong’s foster parents!”

Upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, both Tong Jian and Zhang Jing felt secretly apprehensive.

Originally, they saw Huo Sining as young and kind-looking, thinking she would be easy to deceive. However, they didn’t expect that this woman was not someone to be messed with, and she had even thoroughly investigated their household registration situation.

This made Tong Jian and Zhang Jing’s expressions a little awkward, and their gaze darkened.

However, Huo Sining wasn’t planning to let them off easily. Her expression turned somewhat gloomy, and she continued:

”You say you treat Tongtong as your biological daughter, but from what I’ve seen, that’s unlikely. At least, during my investigation of your family register, I discovered something quite interesting.”

Huo Sining’s gaze swept over Tong Jian and Zhang Jing’s faces, smiling enigmatically:

”Tongtong has been in your family for five years now and is still undocumented. Perhaps it might even be a problem for her to go to school in the future, yet your less than two-year-old son was added to your family register as soon as he was born. I would like to ask, Mr. Tong, is this what you mean by treating her as a biological daughter? So your biological children can be treated differently?”

Faced with Huo Sining’s questions, Tong Jian and Zhang Jing’s faces darkened, looking at Huo Sining with eyes full of fury.

Huo Sining remained indifferent, not fearing this couple at all. Even if she were truly afraid, with Chief Lu having assigned Yingzi as her personal bodyguard standing by her side, Huo Sining felt emboldened and not at all worried about provoking this couple into desperation and getting hurt.

Her gaze shifted to Liu Jingjing’s face.

Because Liu Jingjing previously slipped up and was slapped hard by Zhang Jing, her face was now swollen, and added to the injury on her forehead, it looked quite severe.

”Let’s set aside the household registration issue and talk about the child. I’ve investigated, and the common custom in Jinling City is that children can enter kindergarten at three and a half years old, right? But in your treatment of Tongtong, you simply keep her at home to take care of your children?”

”If I remember correctly, Miss Elisa sends you money every month, fully enough to cover the child’s living expenses and tuition, isn’t it? The average income in Jinling isn’t high, and that money should definitely be no problem to support a child!”

”But now the child is five years old, and you two haven’t sent her to school and haven’t registered her household, so what, are you planning for the child to remain illiterate and be a lifelong servant for your family, a dedicated maid?”

Huo Sining questioned coldly.

Upon hearing this, Tong Jian immediately argued, ”Lawyer Huo, I don’t want to explain the household registration issue, but you mentioned the child being a maid, I must clarify this for our couple. Look at the child, fair-skinned and chubby, she appears to be well-cared for. Do you think we would have her work like a servant? If she were a maid, would she be so exquisitely pretty?”

Huo Sining nodded, ”Indeed, she looks quite delicate, but as I said, Mr. Tong, don’t take me for a fool. I can check your household registration information, and naturally, I can also check others. Whether this child is Tongtong or your sister-in-law’s daughter, I can find out with just one simple phone call. Moreover, do you think I came without conducting an investigation?”

Huo Sining pulled a recording pen from her bag, directly pressed the play button in front of the couple, and soon familiar voices started playing:

”The Tong couple is simply inhumane, treating their daughter worse than livestock. Even in the biting cold with snow falling, they wouldn’t add more clothes for the child. I’ve seen the child several times wearing thin clothes and slippers outside, face turning blue from the cold, and she still has to buy breakfast and groceries early in the morning for this couple!”

”Indeed, that child is truly unlucky to have such parents. They don’t feed her well, let her starve while collecting garbage outside, her little face has become gaunt!”

”It’s the time for growing, yet they’re stingy with food and drink. What kind of parents are these? Their preference for sons over daughters is too severe. That woman treats her son like a treasure, afraid to drop him or melt him, but uses her daughter like a dog!”

”Do you know why the child picks up garbage for money? I asked around last time, and it’s because the couple explicitly told the child that she shouldn’t count on going to school, so she gave up hope. Seeing other children attending school, she was envious and wanted to save money by collecting garbage, hoping to enroll in school on her own, such a good child, yet she met such dreadful parents!”

”...”

Most of the voices belonged to elderly women, but a few were young women, and without exception, every speaker was criticizing Tong Jian and Zhang Jing. Sharp words were filled with sympathy for Tongtong and disdain for Tong’s couple.

Upon hearing these words, Zhang Jing’s complexion turned crimson with anger, full of fury, gritting her teeth and inwardly cursing, ”These damned gossips, who allowed them to speak out? Do they have a right to meddle in others’ family affairs? If I catch them discussing our family again, I’ll tear their mouths apart!”

”Shut up already!”

Seeing his wife still swearing at the neighbors at this point, Tong Jian’s face turned deathly pale, and he quickly interrupted her.
