Reborn As Super Heiress

After seeing Gu Xu and Huo Sining fiddling around in that dead-end alley, Abaris took out something.

His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately looked around warily, then led the two Huaxia people quickly out.

The alley was left with a pile of construction waste, and Ouyang Jun couldn’t possibly continue hiding here. The construction waste had no search value, so Gu Xu and Huo Sining’s focus was now on the mobile phone.

Although it’s unclear why Ouyang Jun would leave that phone inside the broken kiln bricks, it’s obvious that he did it with intention.

The phone has many functions: recording, photography, shooting videos, and storing data, any of which could be the reason Ouyang Jun hid the phone.

No matter the reason, Gu Xu and Huo Sining had a suspicion in their hearts at this moment.

The reason Ouyang Jun was being hunted by the drug lords was very likely hidden in this phone.

Thinking of this, Gu Xu almost without a second thought, while Abaris was not paying attention, used his body as a cover and secretly slipped the phone into Huo Sining’s hand.

Having been with Gu Xu for so long, Huo Sining and Gu Xu had developed a natural tacit understanding, so when the cold phone was slipped into her palm, she understood Gu Xu’s intention.

This phone is the breakthrough to find Ouyang Jun, and it absolutely cannot be lost.

This Tepito Marketplace is so chaotic, no one knows what will happen the next second, even Gu Xu can’t guarantee the safety of the phone.

So, the best way is to put it into the storage ring.

This way, except for Huo Sining, no one will ever find that phone.

Huo Sining glanced at Gu Xu, the two exchanged a look and winked at each other, then Huo Sining decisively put the phone into Space.

Abaris led the two quickly out, however, just then, a woman suddenly dashed out from the side and blocked Huo Sining.

Huo Sining was startled, and instinctively looked over at the woman.

It was a woman in her forties or fifties, wearing a ragged cotton jacket and a coarse-threaded hat, her eyes were sunken and cloudy, yet she was staring directly at Huo Sining, handing her an A4 paper with a photo on it while trying to inquire something awkwardly in broken English.

Huo Sining listened for a while but couldn’t understand what the woman wanted to say, so she instinctively turned to Abaris for help.

Abaris impatiently waved his hand, seemingly trying to drive the woman away.

”Don’t pay attention to her, see the paper in her hand? That’s a missing person notice. The person printed on it, probably her son, has been missing for over a year.”

”These kinds of people are common around here. In Tepito, people disappear every day. Some voluntarily join illegal organizations, drug cartels, some are sold off, maybe to Africa, or perhaps they’ve met Jesus directly, these things are all too common here.”

Having explained to Huo Sining, Abaris rudely tried to drive the woman away.

Huo Sining lowered her head and saw the woman wearing a pair of worn-out canvas shoes, with frostbitten hands that were already festering, yet persistently distributing missing person notices on this street, day after day trying to find her son. For some reason, a bit of compassion stirred within her in that instant.

She directly pulled out a stack of Peso from her pocket and unhesitatingly stuffed it into the woman’s hand.

Whether shocked by the stack of Peso, or surprised by Huo Sining’s actions, the woman stood frozen for an instant, only coming to her senses after being pulled forward by Gu Xu.

In that instant, the woman’s eyes showed an indescribable struggle and hesitation, but in the next moment, as if making some sort of decision, she quickly accelerated her pace and chased after Huo Sining.

Abaris led Huo Sining and Gu Xu forward, only realizing something was wrong when the woman caught up, immediately feeling alert, turned back with a somber expression, warningly staring at the woman: ”What are you doing?”

Abaris misunderstood the woman, mistaking her determined look for greed, given that Huo Sining had just handed her a stack of cash, at least over a thousand Peso.

In Tepito, flaunting wealth is most taboo. Money drives people mad, making them lose reason, which is even more apparent in this market.

Abaris wanted to stop Huo Sining from pulling out money earlier, but it was too late.

Abaris assumed the woman was coming to rob, thus showing vigilance towards her, instinctively reaching for the short knife at his waist.

However, to Abaris’ surprise, he seemed to have misinterpreted, the woman ignored his threat and warning, her gaze fixed solely on Huo Sining, signaling her.

Huo Sining was taken aback, realizing the woman was calling her over, she looked baffled, uncertainly pointing at herself: ”Me?”

The woman nodded.

Huo Sining hesitated, glanced at Gu Xu and then at Abaris, and despite their disapproval, for some reason, she followed the woman’s lead.

Perhaps it was the look in the woman’s eyes that conveyed goodwill, making Huo Sining feel she posed no risk to her.

After Huo Sining approached, the woman seemed aware of her poor English, glancing towards Abaris, she leaned close to Huo Sining and whispered a few scattered phrases.

”Your complexion, Tranleva, watch out for police!”

Huo Sining didn’t quite grasp the meaning of the woman’s words, wanting to inquire further, yet unexpectedly the woman abruptly turned away, as if avoiding a plague, swiftly escaping and soon disappearing at a nearby corner alley.

Though perplexed, for some reason, upon hearing ”your complexion,” Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat, vaguely sensing something wrong, hence instinctively committing the woman’s nonsensical phrases to memory.
