Reborn As Super Heiress

Tong Jian was completely flustered, his face turning pale as a sheet.

This person wasn’t stupid; he clearly understood that this woman with the surname Huo was here for surveillance. On the surface, she said she was visiting Tongtong, but in reality, she was here for a covert investigation.

If this woman really found out how they had treated Tongtong before, she would definitely hold them accountable. By then, the couple would be in serious trouble.

With this in mind, Tong Jian’s eyes darted around, and he started to speak dishonestly:

”Lawyer Huo, rest assured, Miss Elisa trusts us. How could we betray that trust? Tongtong is doing very well now. If you want to see Tongtong, just come by. You know the address, right?”

Huo Sining laughed and said, ”I know, Miss Elisa has told me. So for now, let’s leave it at that. Once I’ve handled my affairs here, I will definitely come over. I’ll contact you then, Mr. Tong.”

After hanging up the phone, Huo Sining couldn’t help but chuckle coldly. She glanced at that courtyard and then turned to leave Fuzi Street.

On the other end, after Tong Jian hung up, he couldn’t help but feel anxious. He reached out to wake up Zhang Jing, who was sleeping next to him, and urgently shouted, ”Wife, wife, wake up quickly, something’s happened!”

Zhang Jing had been up too late yesterday and was in the depths of sleep when she was suddenly awakened by Tong Jian. She immediately became furious and reached out to grab him.

”Why are you making a fuss? Are you trying to start a fight so early in the morning? Can’t you see Hanghang is still sleeping? Do you want to wake him up?”

Usually, if Zhang Jing scolded him at this time, Tong Jian would tuck his head and let her rant. But today was different; Huo Sining’s call had thrown the Tong family into a panic.

”No, honey, something really happened. The lawyer of that woman just called me, saying she’s coming over in the next couple of days to see Tongtong!”

Tong Jian explained urgently.

When Zhang Jing heard this, she was still a little confused: ”Which woman? What’s so interesting about that brat? If she wants to see, then let her come.”

When Tong Jian heard Zhang Jing say this, he knew she hadn’t fully woken up. He immediately put on a bitter face and said, ”Honey, it’s that Elisa woman, Tongtong’s birth mother! You say it so lightly. That brat Tongtong was out all night last night and may really be in trouble. Now that woman is sending her lawyer over for a visit, how can we handle it? If the child is missing, how can we let her see?”

Being reminded of this by Tong Jian, Zhang Jing immediately came to her senses and remembered what happened last night. Her face darkened: ”Last night, that brat really didn’t come back?”

Tong Jian nodded: ”I even bolted the courtyard door, didn’t hear any knocking, it seems that brat really got into trouble.”

Zhang Jing’s face turned grim: ”What should we do then? What did that woman who just called you say?”

Tong Jian recounted Huo Sining’s call and then analyzed:

”From that woman’s tone, I feel she was firm and had hidden intentions, not someone easy to fool. So I could only verbally agree for now, but how do we respond? Honey, what do you suggest?”

Zhang Jing frowned: ”This woman is a lawyer, our usual tricks won’t work on her. If she finds out we lost the child, holding us responsible might not be worth the loss. How about we move quickly before the woman realizes anything? We can change our numbers, and she wouldn’t be able to find us!”

Tong Jian frowned at Zhang Jing’s suggestion, unwilling to concede: ”But by doing so, the woman will surely know something is wrong, and next, she won’t give us money anymore. That woman is generous, the money she gives us every month isn’t small. If we do this, we’ll lose a big income, forget about buying a house for Hanghang, even our living expenses, that’s a significant cost!”

”Then what do you suggest? Can you conjure someone up?”

Zhang Jing, of course, knew this would cut off their financial avenue, but at this point, was there a better option? Now, she was really burning with anger, completely despising that brat Tongtong.

If it weren’t for that girl running out to play yesterday, she’d still be home right now. That way, they wouldn’t be in such a passive situation when that woman sends someone over to visit.

Zhang Jing was not worried about Tongtong’s safety but instead blamed it all on Tongtong. She was filled with loathing for this adopted daughter, her face twisted with resentment, her eyes and brows filled with malice.

Tong Jian frowned, but his mind was racing, and soon, an idea popped into his head:

”It’s not entirely impossible. Look, we can first look for that brat Tongtong. She might have simply forgotten to come home while playing at someone’s house. If we can’t find her, we can pull off a Pillar-Switching Scam.”

”Pillar-Switching Scam?” Zhang Jing was stunned, looking at Tong Jian in confusion.

Tong Jian smiled: ”That Elisa left the child with us for four or five years and hasn’t visited once. How would she know what the child looks like now? She doesn’t even know, let alone her lawyer, who is probably in the dark. We can just fool them with someone else, and she’ll believe it without being able to tell the difference.”

Saying this, Tong Jian looked at Zhang Jing: ”I remember, Jingjing at our sister-in-law’s place is also five years old this year. That girl is cute, chubby, and very healthy. We can talk with our sister-in-law to let Jingjing come over and pretend to be Tongtong. As long as we can fool them, we’ll give Jingjing a big red envelope. What do you think?”

Zhang Jing, who was initially confused about what Tong Jian meant by Pillar-Switching Scam, immediately clapped her hands and praised when she heard his explanation. She patted her husband on the shoulder, beaming with delight:

”Your idea is really terrific, honey. What’s your brain made of, being so clever? This plan works. Jingjing is prettier and much better-looking than that brat Tongtong!”

”That brat Tongtong is as thin as a twig, with wounds all over her body. If that lawyer sees her, they might suspect us. It’s more suitable for Jingjing to pretend. Maybe when the lawyer sees how well we take care of their child, they’ll be so happy they’ll reward us with more money!”
