Reborn As Super Heiress

Elisa’s misjudgment caused her daughter, Tongtong, to suffer a lot over the past two years. The once lively and adorable little girl gradually became silent and withdrawn.

Moreover, what surprised Huo Sining was that for some unknown reason, Zhang Jing and her husband hadn’t registered Tongtong’s household, so five-year-old Tongtong was still an unregistered citizen. In fact, she was merely fostered in the home of Tong Jian and Zhang Jing, and legally had nothing to do with them at all.

Seeing this, Huo Sining couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.

She had been worried before about how to deal with this couple, but after seeing this information and realizing Tongtong was an unregistered citizen, she suddenly came up with an idea.

”You are asking about the Tong family situation, huh? Let me tell you, this couple is really something. A few years ago, I heard that the couple couldn’t conceive and later somehow adopted a girl. That girl brought them good fortune, and they had a son two years ago.”

”But this couple, after having a son, didn’t care about the adopted daughter anymore. They would constantly make that little girl toil for them, even in the bitter cold without giving her thick clothes to wear. If she messed up even a little, they would scold and beat her. How could they lay hands on such a small child?”

”Exactly! I think the reason they couldn’t conceive before was because of their evil deeds. Finally, when a daughter came along bringing them fortune, they still tormented her. Sooner or later, they will squander all the blessings they’ve begged for, and surely they’ll face retribution!”

”...”

Early in the morning, Huo Sining went to Fuzi Street again and happened to meet some old grannies carrying vegetable baskets returning from the market. A quick thought flashed through her mind, and she started chatting with those grannies, eventually steering the conversation toward Tong Jian and Zhang Jing. Those grannies immediately opened up, indignantly criticizing the couple one after another.

While listening, Huo Sining secretly recorded these conversations. After confirming she had gathered sufficient evidence, she bid farewell to the grannies.

At that time, it was just past seven o’clock, and Huo Sining noted that the Tong Jian couple were still asleep, with no signs of activity inside the house. She couldn’t help but let out a cold hum, thinking to herself that even though Tongtong hadn’t returned all night, the couple was sleeping soundly. Let’s see if they can continue to sleep so peacefully!

Huo Sining took out a phone she had covertly obtained from Jiang Weide back in Fucheng. The number was unregistered, making it impossible to trace, so she used it without worry.

She dialed a number she had found in the investigation related to Tong Jian. After four or five rings, it was finally answered. Hearing the hoarse, groggy voice, Huo Sining identified the person on the other end was Tong Jian.

Using a tone typical of clients, Huo Sining asked, ”Hello, are you Mr. Tong Jian?”

Clearly still half-asleep and annoyed by being woken so early, Tong Jian grumpily replied, ”Yes, I’m Tong Jian, who are you?”

Huo Sining said, ”I’m a lawyer entrusted by Miss Elisa. I’m currently dealing with some business in Jinling and accepted Miss Elisa’s commission to check on Miss Tongtong. I plan to visit tomorrow or the day after; would that be convenient?”

Upon hearing this, Tong Jian felt as if a bucket of cold water was poured over him, jolting him awake. He quickly sat up in bed, appearing quite flustered.

It was then that Tong Jian remembered that before going to sleep last night, they had locked the courtyard gate from the inside. Yet, now it was morning, and their foster daughter still hadn’t returned.

A five or six-year-old girl missing all night, it was obvious to any sensible person that something had occurred!

Tong Jian hadn’t been too concerned with the girl’s disappearance, but who would have thought that just after the incident, the woman’s lawyer would call this early to visit? It was too coincidental!

Tong Jian’s mind went blank, unsure how to react for a while.

Meanwhile, on the other end, Huo Sining feigned ignorance and raised her voice, ”Mr. Tong, can you hear me? Mr. Tong, are you still listening?”

Coming back to his senses, Tong Jian realized that refusing at this point would undoubtedly arouse suspicion. Better to agree for now and find a way to locate the girl, then figure out how to delay or respond if needed.

He quickly said, ”Yes, I’m here. Sorry, I wasn’t quite awake this morning. May I know your name, lawyer?”

On the other end, Huo Sining’s expression grew colder: ”My last name is Huo.”

Tong Jian sensed that this woman on the other end of the line was not to be trifled with, and quickly tried to establish rapport, ”Hello, Lawyer Huo, hello.”

Not intending to waste time with pleasantries, Huo Sining directly stated, ”Mr. Tong, Miss Elisa has been quite generous to you both, having transferred another million just a few days ago. With this money given to your couple, her child should be well taken care of, right? Otherwise, you two are undeserving of Miss Elisa’s trust.”

The moment Huo Sining said this, cold sweat began to form on Tong Jian’s forehead.

Initially, he doubted whether this woman named Huo was truly sent by Elisa, but once she mentioned the million, his doubts were dispelled.

Aside from Elisa, only he and his wife knew about the million. If this person were an outsider, it was impossible to know such details.

This indicated that Elisa must have informed this woman named Huo about the million.

This realization made Tong Jian’s heart sink, and he was filled with the urge to curse.

Just yesterday, he thought this sudden million was like hitting a jackpot. Yet, today’s confrontation made him realize it was a trap!

He previously thought Elisa was foolish to hand over a million so easily. After tasting the sweetness, this couple grew bolder, planning to scam Elisa a few more times. Who would have thought that while the money was enticing, holding it felt like a burning coal!
