Reborn As Super Heiress

”It’s okay, Grandpa. Even if I never get married, your granddaughter isn’t in a rush. Spending my days with you isn’t bad!”

Noticing her grandfather’s off mood, Zhang Shuang quickly comforted Master Zhang.

The grandfather and granddaughter stood up and were about to leave when they were stopped by the Liang Family Parents and Old Madam Liang.

”In-law, don’t be hasty. Things are still unclear, let’s not jump to conclusions. Besides, our Jing Hong was a bit reckless before, but young people are bound to be confused. But isn’t he still unmarried? Once he starts a family, he’ll become sensible. Don’t you agree?”

Old Madam Liang was indeed thick-skinned. She could say such insincere words without even blinking or blushing, as if it were all perfectly justified.

Unfortunately, Master Zhang didn’t buy it and spat, ”Don’t call me in-law. We haven’t agreed to anything yet. On a day like today, when your precious grandson can stir up so much trouble, how can I expect him to treat my granddaughter well in the future? Put yourself in my shoes. I heard you have a granddaughter too. If she got engaged and caused a spectacle like this, would you still happily proceed with the wedding? You must have a big heart!”

”In-law...”

Old Madam Liang wanted to continue, but Master Zhang didn’t want to hear it and waved it away: ”No need to say anything. Since your Liang Family isn’t sincere, our Zhang Family won’t humble ourselves. The Imperial Capital has more than just your Liang Family as a prestigious family!”

Liang Pengzhi heard this, his face turning from red to white. Wanting to explain, yet finding himself at fault, he could only endure it and persuade:

”Brother Zhang, those words are a bit harsh. The alliance between our families was even reported by the media, and our family truly values it. We are also very satisfied with this granddaughter-in-law. Today’s incident was a momentary lapse by our Jing Hong, but Brother Zhang, please don’t outright deny him for this. Wherever he lacks, you can discipline him. But marriage is a serious matter, not to be dismissed lightly over this.”

Master Zhang was a proud man who never bowed his head. However, Liang Pengzhi’s words were quite reasonable. Master Zhang, who had seen many things in his life, knew well what the heirs of hereditary families in the Imperial Capital were like. Hearing Liang Pengzhi, he wavered a bit, considering if he should rethink.

Zhang Shuang saw her grandfather’s expression sink, and couldn’t help but purse her lips tightly, looking up and sneering at Old Master Liang:

”Grandpa Liang, I respect you as an elder and won’t say anything harsh, but today’s matter isn’t as simple as you claim a momentary lapse. Though I’m young, I’m not easily fooled. You say marriage is not a joke, then is the matter of the child a joke?”

”That girl is carrying the Liang family bloodline, the child is already four months old, and there she stands with her belly. Not saying how you’ll handle it but wanting our family to turn back? That’s quite laughable. Am I Zhang Shuang so desperate for a man to not be a good maiden and marry into your Liang family to be a stepmother?”

With Zhang Shuang’s words, the Liang Family People were all stunned. Master Zhang also snapped back, remembering that it’s not just a simple lapse; there’s a pregnant ex-girlfriend standing in the hall. The Liang family is deliberately confusing the matter. That woman is here with her belly up, seen by so many guests. Does the Liang family really think they can deny it? At four months, it can’t be aborted. After birth, will they really let the woman be an outside mistress? Then what becomes of his granddaughter?

The more Master Zhang thought, the more wrong it seemed. If the Liang family cruelly forced the woman to abort the child, the heartlessness would leave him unsettled about marrying his granddaughter into such a family.

But not aborting would mean not sending his granddaughter to be a stepmother before she even enters the door. With a mysterious woman eyeing her and a stepdaughter colluding from the inside, one can easily imagine the difficult days ahead for his granddaughter.

Moreover, the engagement party invited so many guests. With today’s spectacle, if they proceed with the Liang family, the Imperial Capital is bound to mock the Zhang Family for selling their daughter for glory. Having lost so much face, how could he marry his granddaughter into the Liang family without being foolish?

With these thoughts, Master Zhang’s mind cleared. He coldly looked at the Liang Family People, angry:

”Do you really think I’m senile and easily fooled? Whatever reports there are, I want my granddaughter to have a happy future. Clearly, your Liang family isn’t a suitable choice! No need to say more. I announce now, today’s engagement between the Zhang and Liang families is canceled, and there will be no future alliance. This breach isn’t because the girls of the Zhang family aren’t good, but because your Liang family is too overbearing and disgraceful!”

Master Zhang’s declaration stirred an uproar in the banquet hall. The guests discussed animatedly, all turning to look at the Liang Family People.

Liang Pengzhi, a man of pride, was utterly humiliated by Master Zhang in such a setting, turning red with anger.

Wu Jingyi, on hearing Master Zhang’s decision, couldn’t hide her excitement and joy.

Auntie Zhang seemed to want to say more, but Uncle Zhang, seeing his father’s expression, knew the matter was beyond repair and quickly pulled his wife, signaling her to remain silent.

Auntie Zhang, seeing this, begrudgingly closed her mouth.

”My Shuang girl was raised by me, although her parents passed early, she is the pearl of the Zhang family. If your Liang family doesn’t cherish her, others will come to cherish her. From today, my granddaughter and your grandson have nothing to do with each other. In their future marriages, they are irrelevant to each other!”

Having said this, Master Zhang no longer cared about the Liang Family People’s faces and stormed out of the banquet hall with Zhang Shuang, followed closely by Uncle Zhang and Auntie Zhang.

With the main participants gone, the guests, who all exchanged glances, couldn’t stay at the event any longer. They slowly gathered their emotions, bidding farewell to Old Master Liang. Once outside the banquet hall, they couldn’t contain themselves, groups of threes and fives started discussing today’s drama enthusiastically, each with a gossiping spark.
