Reborn As Super Heiress

The words of Director Li were originally meant to save some face for Huo Sining. He thought that by praising her a bit more, these old experts might start looking at her with new eyes and no longer belittle her, which is why he made the exaggerated statement, ”Even with her eyes closed, she can appraise treasures.”

However, to the ears of the experts present, these words were extremely grating.

Everyone there had mingled in the antique and relic circle for many years and knew that the key to antique appraisal lay in the eyesight. To appraise an antique, one needs to look at the color, patterns, shape, and inscriptions of an item with their eyes, combining all features with the knowledge they have learned to determine the authenticity of an item.

These old experts were all university-level professors, considered leaders in the industry, yet none of them would dare claim they could appraise the authenticity of an object while blindfolded.

So, Director Li’s words seemed to them to be pure baseless boasting, which caused their already low opinion of Huo Sining to plummet further.

”Blindfolded appraisal, now that indeed is quite a skill! We old fellows have been in the guild for so many years and have never heard of such a bizarre thing like blindfold appraisal, it’s truly novel!”

Upon hearing this, one of the elderly experts couldn’t help but reveal a sarcastic smirk, casting a mocking glance at Huo Sining.

Hearing the old man say this, a middle-aged man standing to the side immediately chimed in, ”If that’s the case, let’s not rush and first see Miss Huo’s blindfold appraisal, and see if she can truly tell the genuine from the fake!”

The middle-aged man wore a set of work clothes and appeared to be a museum staff member. Huo Sining glanced at the name tag hanging on his chest and saw a familiar name: Zeng Fugui.

A knowing smile immediately appeared in Huo Sining’s eyes; so, this man was the Deputy Director of H Province Museum.

As soon as Zeng Fugui spoke, everyone in the room was taken aback, even Director Li’s eyes turned red with urgency as he waved his hands trying to explain, ”No, that’s not...”

Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Huo Sining, ”Director Li, would you be so kind as to find a black strip of cloth.”

Director Li was dumbfounded, staring wide-eyed at Huo Sining in disbelief, thinking he must have misheard, until he saw her nod in confirmation, only then did he realize the young lady wasn’t joking.

Director Li’s eyes revealed a look of worry and anxiety, as this situation wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t started it, now leaving him open to criticism.

Director Li knew very well that Zeng Fugui was clearly setting a trap for Huo Sining, with a simple purpose: to humiliate her in front of so many experts, while simultaneously giving him a hard time, and ideally inciting those experts’ dissatisfaction with him. Added to the museum’s recent troubles, Zeng might have an opportunity to oust him from his position as the legitimate museum director.

Zeng Fugui’s grievances with him were longstanding, yet Director Li couldn’t straightforwardly speak to Huo Sining, an outsider, about it. Seeing her insist, he couldn’t persuade her further and could only silently pray that she wouldn’t dig her own grave and end up being toyed with by Zeng Fugui.

The experts across the room shook their heads continuously as they saw Huo Sining being serious about it. Though they’d heard of people who could discern the authenticity of antiques with just their hands, that was something from the distant past. Such individuals were typically high-ranking pawnbrokers or noble scions exposed to artifacts from a young age, and only in old age did they acquire such skills.

But how old was this young girl in front of them? Even if she started touching objects right at birth, she would have only had about twenty years, and in such a short time, the old artifacts she could touch were ultimately limited. How could she possibly develop such skills?

Even Feng Qing and He Ming exchanged puzzled glances among themselves, not knowing what was going on with Miss Huo. This was clearly a trap; normally, one would play it off with a laugh, but this young lady not only didn’t refuse, she actually asked Director Li to find a cloth, being too earnest. Could she not see that Deputy Director Zeng harbored ill intentions, deliberately setting a trap for her?

Amidst the muttering conversations around them, Director Li was also uncertain. But with things having developed this far, it was difficult to retract his words, so he had to comply with Huo Sining’s request to find a strip of cloth.

Zeng Fugui’s heart, however, started beating faster. His initial words were meant to provoke this woman of the Huo family, never expecting she would be so easily provoked and actually agree to it.

Zeng Fugui’s eyes narrowed, and a smile involuntarily appeared at the corners of his mouth. He was distressed about lacking an excuse to remove Director Li from his position, and now that an opportunity presented itself, he would be a fool not to seize it.

Zeng Fugui glanced at Huo Sining, who appeared confident, and couldn’t help but shake his head inwardly, his smile becoming more radiant.

Once the cloth was found, Huo Sining immediately blindfolded herself.

Immediately, everyone nearby stared wide-eyed, amazed at how this young girl truly acted as soon as she spoke!

Seeing that Huo Sining was genuinely serious, those old experts also got fired up. None believed she had such abilities, observing her assured demeanor, clearly displayed the arrogance and inexperience of youth; everyone harbored the intention to curb the young lady’s vigor, so without hesitation, they rolled up their sleeves and joined in.

”Alright, since Miss Huo proposes an appraisal, let’s each pick an item, but no one should mention authenticity. Only the one who chose each item truly knows it. If Miss Huo can indeed identify authenticity, we’ll concede wholeheartedly. Miss Huo, what do you think of this?”

An expert suddenly suggested, and the others found it reasonable, laughingly voicing their agreement.

Huo Sining did not refuse and, after blindfolding herself, even asked the Deputy Director Zeng to inspect it.

Actually, this step was not particularly significant in anyone’s eyes. Even with open eyes, determining authenticity with antiques isn’t guaranteed. However, since Zeng Fugui suggested it, everyone took it as an amusement. Yet their gaze towards Huo Sining resembled that of performers, not genuinely believing she could determine the truth.

However, Zeng Fugui wasn’t one of those old experts. Since he proposed that Huo Sining appraise while blindfolded, he wouldn’t give her any loopholes to exploit, thus he attentively stepped forward to check and secure the cloth on Huo Sining himself, fearing she might find any loopholes during the process.
