Reborn As Super Heiress

Zeng Fugui took a quick step forward, attempting to rush out, but before he covered two meters, he was stopped by a security guard. It was too late to escape; Feng Qing dashed toward him and twisted his arm into a lock.

The crowd was momentarily baffled by the turn of events.

Director Li, however, revealed a telling expression on his face. After years of patience, he finally caught Zeng Fugui’s fox tail this time. He cleared his throat twice and explained, ”The exhibition hall was under Deputy Director Zeng’s management. We brought experts for an inventory because of the museum’s swapping incident, but Deputy Director Zeng consistently emphasized that there was no issue on his end…”

Everyone immediately understood the situation. Zeng Fugui continued to struggle, but unfortunately, the matter was exposed. It was too late for him to argue further, and to his dismay, before he could devise a way to deal with the police, a call came from the police department. They had found several artifacts at Zeng Fugui’s home, which, according to his wife, were swapped out from the museum.

With both evidence and witness in place, Zeng Fugui’s denial was in vain.

Zeng Fugui was apprehended, but the investigation had to continue. The following results left many of the old experts utterly speechless. Director Li was so angry that he wished he could tie Zeng Fugui up and beat him.

The staff moved over a thousand items from the exhibition hall, with Huo Sining leading the initial identification of the objects.

To quickly determine the authenticity of these items, Huo Sining, this time without blindfolded, activated the Heavenly Eye and used her fingers to scan through them, indicating to the staff to move aside those emitting a purple aura.

Upon identification, many present felt chills running down their spine. The more they examined, the more it appalled them. No one anticipated Zeng Fugui to be so audacious. A third of the thousand items in the exhibition hall had been swapped out, with several hundred genuine items having vanished without a trace.

Director Li was stunned, his body stiffened, with his eyes red with fury. Though he suspected Zeng Fugui of wrongdoing, he never imagined that this person possessed the audacity to commit such a crime.

The old experts were equally outraged. Many of those swapped artifacts were originally excavated from major tombs in H Province, their soil carefully brushed off bit by bit. They never expected that these perfectly preserved relics, upon entering the museum, would endure such a fate, being treated as commodities and turned into tools for bureaucratic profiteering!

”Such people aren’t worth sparing after a hundred deaths! He must not remain at large; stringent punishment is necessary!”

Several old experts, boiling with anger, couldn’t refrain from slapping the table and shouting.

Huo Sining furrowed her brows, having noted Director Li’s eyes of hidden concern and helplessness. Combined with the two female staff members’ conversations overheard in the restroom, she guessed what Director Li might be worrying about.

Zeng Fugui dared to commit such acts evidently with impunity, indicating he had someone backing him. Though apprehended, it didn’t signify the case’s conclusion; he might be imprisoned today but released tomorrow.

Considering this possibility, Huo Sining squinted slightly. With irrefutable evidence and witnesses, if she encountered none, the case might have been disregarded. Since she encountered it, Zeng Fugui was destined to face jail!

After contemplation, Huo Sining phoned Zhou Shitao, narrated the H Province Museum incident, and reported directly to Chief Lu. Acting from both ends, the two affirmed their support upon receiving Huo Sining’s call.

Zhou Shitao advised Huo Sining to report the situation to the police department for handling by the Cultural Relics Bureau and the police. He assured her that she needn’t concern herself, as Zeng Fugui surely wouldn’t escape.

Chief Lu spoke bluntly, leaving a remark, ”Just investigate, no matter if it’s Zeng Fugui, Liu Fugui, I’ll see who’s behind him; if they fancy relics so much, I’ll bury him to accompany those relics!”

Chief Lu’s words were forthright, yet refreshing. Shortly after Huo Sining hung up, Feng Qing received a call from the police department, indicating a top-down notice demanding a thorough investigation of the H Province Museum swapping case, ensuring no participant escapes; a decisive sweep of these national parasites was mandatory.

The news was delivered via a red-letter document from central authorities. With this update, Director Li finally relaxed, tearing up as he said, ”Miss Huo, today’s events owe much to you; otherwise, even with evidence, convicting Zeng Fugui wasn’t guaranteed.”

Huo Sining smiled and said sternly, ”The nation’s relics are inviolable; it is absolutely unacceptable for anyone to misuse public instruments for personal gain. I merely sought justice. However, Director Li, this incident warrants self-reflection; there are managing flaws in your museum, or else such a significant loophole wouldn’t have existed. While the police detectives will find means to recover the swapped relics, I hope the director thoroughly rectifies the museum state to prevent a recurrence!”

Director Li nodded, his face filled with shame and regret: ”Indeed, it’s my negligence. The foremost task henceforth is to improve the museum’s managerial system, preventing further insider theft!”

Zeng Fugui was taken away by police, his face dour in the car, resenting Huo Sining, Director Li, and others, with a visage of malice and spite, thinking inwardly, ”Just wait until I get out!”

Upon arrival at the police station, Zeng Fugui maintained an air of calm, still expecting support from his superior. Yet after spending several hours there with no word back, he started to panic, refusing to divulge information during police interrogation, insisting on making a phone call first.

Feng Qing seemed to have guessed Zeng Fugui’s intentions, holding the newly arrived red-letter document notification, fretting over finding evidence against Zeng Fugui’s superior. Seeing Zeng Fugui wishing to make a call, Feng Qing signaled the officers to grant his request.
