Reborn As Super Heiress

Yang Xiaohan was well-versed in the world of the Ghost Market, frequently encountering such situations where scammers would boast about having valuable items, luring newcomers into alleys, and then using tactics like fabricated accidents to coerce the newbies into buying their fake goods at hefty prices.

So, seeing the Old Granny clutching Huo Sining’s sleeve, Yang Xiaohan’s expression immediately darkened, and she said coldly:

”Ma’am, I see you’re of age, so we don’t need to say much. We won’t fall for such a low-level scam. You better let go and leave, or I’ll call the police right now.”

Upon hearing Yang Xiaohan mention calling the police, the Old Granny’s expression changed immediately. Her eyes shot a cold and murderous glance at Yang Xiaohan, but it quickly vanished, replaced by her previous amiable demeanor. Looking at Huo Sining, she continued:

”Do you believe me, young lady? I really have excellent thousand-year jade. It’s absolutely genuine, I’m really not trying to deceive you.”

Huo Sining found it odd, with so many people around, why was this Old Granny only grabbing her?

Moreover, Huo Sining sensed something strange about the Old Granny. Though she was smiling, Huo Sining faintly felt a chill of death from the Granny’s forehead. This aura seemed familiar to Huo Sining, but try as she might, she couldn’t recall where she’d seen it before.

Having mingled in the antique trade for over a year, Huo Sining had only encountered millennium-old jade once— the pair of jade cups sold to her by Zhao Yuliang. Based on a rough estimate, those jade cups were worth at least ten million, and if she found the right buyer, selling them for twenty million wouldn’t be a problem.

However, very few thousand-year-old jades survive through time. First, ancient jade was rare and usually only owned by noble families with status and wealth. Second, ancient jade is fragile, like porcelain, and difficult to preserve, making the chances of it being passed down even smaller.

As such, under normal circumstances, thousand-year-old jades are unearthed as burial artifacts, which means the only way such items could appear on the market is if Tomb Robbers had stolen them from ancient tombs.

Huo Sining was in Chang’an to find that tomb raider called Oil Rat from City C, and with the Old Granny repeatedly claiming to have thousand-year-old jade, Huo Sining remained vigilant, suspecting that the Old Granny might be in cahoots with Oil Rat.

With this in mind, Huo Sining glanced at Yang Xiaohan, but deliberately feigned interest, smiling as she asked, ”Is it really a thousand-year-old jade?”

Seeing Huo Sining’s interest, the Old Granny became delighted and hurriedly explained, ”It’s truly a thousand-year-old jade, an heirloom from our family. If my husband weren’t gravely ill, I wouldn’t sell it. If you don’t believe, you can have your friend come along; I definitely won’t deceive you.”

In a place like the Ghost Market, people are adept at crafting tales of spirits; naturally, Huo Sining wouldn’t be deceived by a mere explanation like that. Selling family heirlooms due to a family member’s grave illness was a common excuse, seven out of ten people use this reason.

However, Huo Sining chose not to expose the Old Granny, suspecting she might be like that Oil Rat— a Tomb Robber. To validate her suspicions, she needed to follow the Old Granny to take a closer look.

As for Yang Xiaohan’s previous suspicion that the Old Granny was a scam artist, Huo Sining wasn’t too concerned. After all, in the Ghost Market, even if the Old Granny intended a scam, she’d need to find a better spot. Here, with so many people around, if any trouble arose, they could easily disappear into the crowd, so Huo Sining wasn’t too worried.

After signaling Yang Xiaohan, who seemed to understand, Huo Sining nodded and smiled at the Old Granny, saying, ”In that case, Granny, please lead the way.”

Yang Xiaohan’s face flashed with caution, wanting to persuade Huo Sining to reconsider. But as Huo Sining’s mind was made up, Yang Xiaohan had no choice but to follow, though she remained on high alert, instinctively slipping her hand into her pocket to grip the standard-issue hand|gun, watching the surroundings meticulously.

The three of them followed the Old Granny to an intersection in the Ghost Market.

This area hadn’t left Antique Street, with stalls placed on both ends, making it not too secluded. But the Old Granny’s stall was hidden in the alley. The entire stall was just a simple cloth spread on the ground with some imitation ancient jade on it, none of which was the thousand-year-old jade she mentioned.

Seeing Huo Sining inspecting her with suspicion, the Old Granny unhurriedly pulled out a handkerchief from her bosom, which she unfolded layer by layer, revealing a piece of Qingbai jade about six to seven centimeters in size.

Upon seeing the Qingbai jade, Huo Sining’s eyes flashed with surprise. She glanced at the Old Granny in astonishment, wanting to inquire but forced herself to suppress her doubts.

It was an ancient jade about eight centimeters long and five centimeters wide, with a thickness of around two centimeters. The entire jade was of excellent Qingbai quality, translucent with a simple and classic design.

”Granny, may I take a closer look at this jade?”

Suppressing her inner excitement, Huo Sining asked the Old Granny.

The Old Granny nodded and directly handed over the ancient jade.

Huo Sining reached out instinctively to take the jade, but as soon as her right hand touched it, a chilling black aura penetrated her palm, quickly seeping into her heart.

In that instant, Huo Sining seemed to see a pair of sinister, resentful eyes. Her heart turned icy cold halfway through, causing her to tremble uncontrollably. Instinctively, she let go, and the ancient jade fell onto the cloth. Fortunately, the cloth was quite thick, preventing the jade from breaking.

Black baleful energy! Huo Sining was shocked.

This ancient jade bore a striking resemblance to the black baleful energy that had attached to the Tri-colored Tang Horse she encountered in the Taicheng Ancient Tomb. No wonder when she had first seen the Old Granny, the dead aura between her brows had seemed so familiar—this was the reason!

Back then, everyone who came into contact with that Tri-colored Tang Horse—be it Li Xuanbing, Feng Yang, or others—was somewhat affected. The migrant worker who had stolen the horse even died under mysterious circumstances, and the case was closed hastily without determining the exact cause of death.

Now, looking again at both the Old Granny and the ancient jade she produced, Huo Sining immediately concluded that this thousand-year-old jade, like that horse, was likely stolen from an ancient tomb!
