Reborn As Super Heiress

The long-stalled tomb was finally opened, and all the experts were thrilled.

Captain Zhao immediately ran down the mountain to share the good news with Professor Xie. Xie Daoyuan couldn’t help but smile; this Huo girl truly astounds once she acts.

With the tomb chamber pried open, rescuing people became much simpler. The rescue team quickly arrived; Captain Zhao was the first to enter. Following the structural map drawn by Huo Sining, they found the four nearly collapsed tomb robbers in the left-side antechamber.

The four were lifted out one by one using ropes. Huo Sining noticed that their faces showed a strange bluish-purple tint, a look of death in their eyes, and their bodies somewhat stiff. They seemed to be poisoned, likely triggered by an apparatus that released poison from the terra-cotta figures.

Only four were rescued. The woman who played the Old Granny and three others among them, Fujiwara Seiho, Mr. Python, and later joiner Mr. Huang, were nowhere to be seen; undoubtedly, they had already escaped using a shell escape technique.

What puzzled Huo Sining was that the Oil Rat was also missing from these people; perhaps he escaped with Fujiwara Seiho and the others.

The incident had occurred so suddenly that Professor Xie and his team hurriedly came to the scene. Though the people were rescued, the archaeological work must continue.

However, Xie Daoyuan was not in a rush. Archaeology is not something that can be completed overnight, unlike tomb robbing, where it’s just about taking the valuable items.

After a day of commotion, the experts and the excavation workers were utterly exhausted. They decided to return to camp, rest, draft specific plans, and make other arrangements later.

Feeling tired herself, following the night-long pursuit of the tomb robbers and the exertion of spiritual energy while surveying the tomb, Huo Sining, in low spirits, went back to the hotel with Qibao, had a simple dinner, and went to bed.

In the middle of the night, Huo Sining groggily opened her eyes from sleep, only to see a vague black shadow standing by her bed. Her heart skipped a beat in shock, and she instantly widened her eyes, exclaiming, ”Who are you?!”

The person, perhaps not expecting Huo Sining to wake up suddenly, moved and instinctively turned to flee.

A flash of insight crossed Huo Sining’s mind; contrary to thought, out of impulse, she called out, ”Dad!”

The word came from the depths of her heart, and Huo Sining was stunned. She hadn’t clearly seen the person’s face but had rashly called out, which was very impulsive.

Nevertheless, her shout made the retreating figure stiffen. Huo Sining distinctly heard the person’s sudden rapid breathing. In the quiet night, she seemed to hear the person’s racing heartbeat resonate like a drum with her own.

Initially unsure who this person was, seeing their reaction assured Huo Sining of her inner suspicion: this person was definitely Liang Ruining.

Her initial nervousness turned into a surge of anger and confusion, and she subconsciously questioned, ”Why are you hiding? You’re clearly alive; why won’t you appear? What secret are you hiding?”

Perhaps, Huo Sining’s barrage of questions pulled the shadow back to reality, leading them to glance complexly at Huo Sining before leaping out of the window. They jumped from the third-floor balcony to the street and dashed into an alley across the road, disappearing from Huo Sining’s sight in an instant.

Staring at the dim streetlights, Huo Sining’s mind was a tangled mess.

More than a year ago, when the Huang Family took her back to the Imperial Capital to recognize her heritage, she had awoken one night to find someone in her room. She was nearly frightened out of her soul, and the shadow, startled by her shout, jumped out the window to escape.

The Huang Family thought it was a thief, but Huo Sining felt the shadow was odd, not like someone stealing something, especially since after the shadow left, she found a Phoebe zhennan wood box with one of the four parchment pieces she had been looking for at her bedside cabinet.

Unable to figure out who the shadow was, she connected her memories of the same occurrence over a year later. Without much doubt, Huo Sining concluded that the two shadows were the same person, owing to the similar style of actions and the same uncanny feeling they evoked.

However, if this person was indeed her father, how did he know a year ago that she was looking for the Phoebe zhennan wood box containing the parchment? Why did he present the box to her in such a manner?

Huo Sining’s mind was muddled; she couldn’t comprehend why, if Liang Ruining was alive, he continued to hide from her and the Huang Family’s relatives, even going so far as to fake his death to deceive everyone.

In a muddled state, Huo Sining sat unconsciously by the bedside, preparing to check the time on her phone. Upon turning back, she unexpectedly saw Qibao sitting upright, staring intently at the open window on the balcony.

”Qibao? Why are you sitting? Did you wake up?” Huo Sining asked, surprised and concerned.

Qibao looked up at Huo Sining in a daze, hesitated for a while, and then timidly asked, ”Sister, so the person you were looking for is your father?”

Qibao’s question seemed abrupt, and Huo Sining didn’t initially register it. However, she quickly realized something, her eyes widening, ”Are you saying the person who was just in our room is Uncle Tong?!”

”Who’s Uncle Tong?” Qibao asked, puzzled. ”Didn’t you just call that person Dad? That person has the Thousand-Mile Sub Gu, the same as the one residing in the Imperial Capital’s old house’s secret room.”

Huo Sining’s expression froze, not knowing where to place her hands and feet. After a long silence, a smile emerged that seemed both joyful and bitter, ”I should have guessed long ago. So, Uncle Tong is actually...”
