Reborn As Super Heiress

The people in their circle have honed their keen eyes over decades of hard work, never expecting Huo Sining to determine the authenticity of an antique with just a light touch.

The experts felt their worldview had been completely overturned. A group of them sat in the meeting room, all eyes fixed on Huo Sining’s performance.

Yes, it was a performance. Not only the experts but even the museum staff joined in, each bringing artifacts to Huo Sining. She merely flicked her fingertips over them, barely touching a whole piece, yet she could determine the authenticity.

Zeng Fugui initially thought of taking this opportunity to trip up Director Li. However, as the situation unfolded, he felt increasingly uneasy. Watching museum staff hand over antiques to Huo Sining one by one, he grew more panicked, even breaking out in a cold sweat.

It was only then that he realized something crucial: this woman named Huo was so formidable, her tactile sense for antiques had reached a godlike level. She could tell the real from the fake with just a touch, meaning identifying the authenticity of all the museum’s items might only take a few hours.

This meant that the swapped items in the museum could be inventoried in a day.

Realizing this, Zeng Fugui became aware of the fundamental issue.

A fair number of the artifacts he had swapped out from the museum. He thought he had done a flawless job, but now that this woman named Huo had appeared, those counterfeit swapped items might be discovered in less than a day.

The experts had been at the museum for days without progress. Zeng Fugui thought he could just ride it out and have someone intervene from above later. Who could predict running into a nemesis like Huo Sining?

Now he knew the issue was serious, calculating quickly in his mind, and deciding that of the 36 stratagems, fleeing was the best option, so he should slip away first.

Thus, as everyone marveled at Huo Sining’s appraisal prowess, each wanting to try it out, and the room buzzed with excitement, Zeng Fugui’s eyes darted around. After a quick glance around, he quietly took a step back, intending to sneak out of the room.

By then, many people in the museum had squeezed into this meeting room. At that moment, the room was packed, indeed leaving few to notice Zeng Fugui’s actions. Just as he reached the door and was about to slip out, suddenly Director Li spoke up: ”Deputy Director Zeng, where are you heading?”

Zeng Fugui’s steps faltered, and turning back, he saw Director Li smiling, seemingly kindly but actually mocking.

Most of the people in the room were focused on Huo Sining, with no attention to spare for Zeng Fugui’s movements. But Director Li was different. Ever since Huo Sining began appraising treasures, he had been secretly observing Zeng Fugui’s every move. Seeing Zeng Fugui trying to sneak away, he certainly wouldn’t let him escape so easily.

In fact, Director Li had long known there was something wrong with Zeng Fugui and that most of the museum’s swapped artifacts couldn’t be unrelated to him. But with Zeng Fugui’s strong background, no one could pin him down. Director Li also feared this matter would drag on until it petered out, allowing Zeng Fugui to slip through the cracks again.

With such a leech like Zeng Fugui in the museum, there could be no development. Director Li resolved to oust Zeng Fugui and his associates, but had been struggling to find an opportunity. Now with Zhou Shitao’s apprentice involved, he surely wanted to seize this chance to completely eliminate the threat of Zeng Fugui’s faction.

So, Director Li called out to block Zeng Fugui’s escape route.

You want to run? Don’t be ridiculous. At this point, do you think you can get away? Director Li looked at Zeng Fugui with a mirthless smile, full of mockery.

Sure enough, at Director Li’s shout, everyone’s attention in the room turned to Zeng Fugui by the door.

Zeng Fugui was caught off guard, forced to retract his foot that was crossing the threshold. Cursing Director Li’s ancestors under his breath, his face flushed, he turned around biting his lip, and laughed awkwardly to explain: ”Oh, I was just going for a drink of water...”

Director Li smiled and said: ”If you want water, have someone pour you a cup. Besides, Deputy Director Zeng, you’re the one who suggested this blindfolded appraisal. Such an important occasion can’t do without you. The appraisal results still need to be announced by you at the end.”

Zeng Fugui chuckled awkwardly: ”Miss Huo’s appraisal skills are indeed admirable; the results are obvious to all. I think there’s no need to announce them, haha...”

Zeng Fugui felt a rush of blood within, hating Director Li to the core, yet he forced a smile, saying things he didn’t believe himself. His eyes rolled as he sought another excuse to slip away: ”I mean, I need to go to the restroom first.”

Over there, Feng Qing and He Ming were no fools. They were sent to investigate the museum’s artifact swap case, and with the case developing to this stage, they had an idea who the suspect was. Seeing Zeng Fugui’s odd expression, they exchanged a glance, realizing Zeng Fugui’s real intent.

”Perfect, Deputy Director Zeng, I’m bursting too. Let’s go together!”

With that, Feng Qing grabbed Zeng Fugui, intending to head out, putting an arm around his shoulder with a brotherly air.

Zeng Fugui’s face instantly turned stiff, alternating between shades of green and white. He wanted to come up with another reason but couldn’t find a more plausible excuse.

Meanwhile, Huo Sining had finished appraising the antiques in the meeting room. The staff clamored to bring items from the exhibit hall and storage to be appraised, but Huo Sining wiped the cloth from her forehead, glanced at Zeng Fugui, and suddenly smiled at Director Li:

”Director Li, I actually have something to tell you. Who is responsible for item management in your museum? They have serious issues. When I came in earlier, I accidentally got lost and stumbled upon the exhibit hall. After just a few glances, I made a shocking discovery. Seven or eight exhibits over there are fake. You’re too careless. Tsk tsk...”

Upon hearing this, Director Li’s face turned drastic, and he was visibly disturbed: ”What did you say? The exhibits over there are fake?!”

A group of veteran experts also frowned. Originally intending to slip away, Zeng Fugui stiffened upon hearing this, quickening his pace toward the exit. However, Director Li turned his iron-blue-faced glare upon Zeng Fugui’s retreating back, his anger almost tangible, and shouted urgently: ”Zeng Fugui, stop!”
