Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1041: Chapter 1037: Did You See Anything

Liu Cheng’s face changed, and he instinctively wanted to put down one hand to cover his pocket. But a sergeant immediately reacted, rushing over and promptly subduing him, swiftly retrieving a Nokia phone from Liu Cheng’s pocket.

The phone was still on the recording screen. Upon checking, it was found that several videos had already been recorded.

The sergeant handed the phone to Huo Sining. Huo Sining opened the videos, and sure enough, there was a segment showing the sergeants moving relics.

Seeing this, Huo Sining’s expression didn’t change, but she was shocked inside.

Without hesitation, she deleted all the videos from the phone altogether. Still worried that these two people might have a way to recover the deleted videos after taking the phone back, Huo Sining even confiscated the phone.

Holding it in her hand, Huo Sining thought to herself how close it was. If these two had gotten away with those videos, no matter how tightly this matter is covered up, it likely couldn’t be hidden.

Realizing that denial was now useless, Liu Cheng hurriedly explained to Huo Sining: ”Miss Huo, I really didn’t mean any harm. I’m not a paparazzo; I just found it curious to see so many armored vehicles. People have curiosity, and I took out my phone to record purely out of curiosity...”

”Curious, then post the video online to share the experience with netizens, embellishing it a bit to show off and satisfy your vanity?”

Huo Sining lifted her head and interjected bluntly.

Her words pierced through Liu Cheng’s intentions, hitting the nail on the head.

Liu Cheng and Zhao Yang were just ordinary people, who loved browsing online forums and microblogs, bragging with strangers. However, with their average backgrounds, they had nothing impressive to boast about, making their stories easy to be seen through as fabrications.

Upon encountering such a significant event, Liu Cheng’s first thought was that if this got online, it would cause an uproar. He imagined his following on microblog flourishing.

This thought excited Liu Cheng, prompting him to gather the courage to sneak a video covertly at the risk of his life for online bragging rights.

If Liu Cheng had any malicious intent, Huo Sining could see through it instantly. It was evident he was just a simple ordinary person without any intention of using the video for blackmail or personal gain. Even if he had more courage, he wouldn’t dare.

However, his inadvertent action almost ruined Huo Sining’s crucial task, causing her to frown as she coldly asked: ”What have you seen?”

Liu Cheng hesitated, not daring to speak, while the sergeant beside him suddenly shouted: ”Be honest!”

Startled, Liu Cheng spilled his conjecture: ”I... I didn’t see much, just felt that those items looked familiar, like the relics stolen from the Dongyang National Museum some time ago.”

”So, were you planning to post this video online accompanied by a statement suggesting that the missing museum relics had been returned to the country as proof?”

Startled, Liu Cheng instinctively glanced up at Huo Sining, panic reflected in his eyes. Though he didn’t verbally confirm, his expression said it all.

Huo Sining’s lips curled in a smirk, thinking that it seemed justified for this man to be caught. If he were released, the trouble he might cause later would be a headache.

”Mr. Huang, how do you think we should handle these two?” Huo Sining turned to Huang Zhenlong for his opinion.

Huang Zhenlong, knowing the gravity of the situation, muttered, then suggested: ”Perhaps detain them or take them to the military base. This matter mustn’t be leaked!”

Overhearing this, Liu Cheng and the now-awake Zhao Yang were scared out of their wits. Liu Cheng nearly burst into tears in desperation:

”No, sir, you’ve taken our phones, we promise not to leak anything. If a word slips from our lips, you can catch us anytime! Miss Huo, please, considering I rented my warehouse to you, can we let this go? We really didn’t mean any harm, truly.”

Huo Sining didn’t intend to hold these two accountable; she just wanted Huang Zhenlong to scare them, to show them the severity, making them understand what should and shouldn’t be said.

So hearing Liu Cheng’s plea, Huo Sining subtly smiled: ”You’re right, if you let even a word slip, no matter how far you run, I can still catch you. I can overlook today’s incident, but you must remain on alert. See the ranks of these officers beside me? My only advice is, do not attempt to defy the military!”

Liu Cheng and Zhao Yang nodded repeatedly, not daring to look at the officers before them.

Earlier at the wall corner, Liu Cheng had seen their shoulder insignias: two colonels and dozens of majors and exchange officers. With their capabilities, dealing with these two would be akin to snapping two ants. They wouldn’t dare challenge them unless they had a death wish.

Seeing Liu Cheng and Zhao Yang behaving, Huo Sining didn’t want to exert authority upon them, recognizing today’s ordeal as an unexpected disaster for them. After thinking a bit, she reassured them:

”I won’t pursue today’s incident, but keep your mouths shut. I’ll confiscate your phone; I’ll only rent the warehouse for today, with the agreement null and void from tomorrow. You can keep the fifty thousand as compensation. Get a new phone with it. From tomorrow, you can rent the warehouse to whoever you like, without my consent.”

By giving a stick and candy, Huo Sining skillfully handled the situation. As expected, Liu Cheng’s face lit up at her words, and any dissatisfaction in his eyes vanished instantly.

For these ordinary citizens, fifty thousand is like a windfall. Though today’s experience was thrilling, the gain made the fright negligible.
