Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1006: Chapter 1002: Vast Numbers

Uehara Keijiro glared disdainfully at the administrator, bent down as if to pick up the booklet, only to spot a line of tick marks drawn on the back.

Uehara Keijiro’s expression changed dramatically, and he grabbed the booklet, lifting his head with a livid look as he questioned the administrator incredulously, ”What do these tick marks mean?”

The staff in the warehouse were startled by Uehara Keijiro’s stern shout, but the administrator remained expressionless, with hollow eyes, lifelessly replying, ”Those mark the stolen items.”

Actually, as soon as Uehara Keijiro saw the tick marks on the booklet, he had already suspected something, but he had hoped it wasn’t true. Now, the administrator’s confirmation shattered his illusions, and he felt his blood rush, almost fainting right then and there.

”Director!” Seeing Uehara Keijiro’s pale face as if he might collapse any moment, several staff members quickly moved to support him.

Uehara Keijiro wished he could just faint to escape the situation, but how could he collapse now? He was the leader of the museum; with such an incident happening, if he fainted, who would take charge?

He originally thought the thieves had stolen only a few items from the warehouse, but the scale this time was beyond his imagination.

”Ancient Stone Tools, Shang and Zhou Dynasty Bronzewares, Wei and Jin Dynasty Stone Buddhist Scriptures, Tang and Song Dynasty Paintings and Calligraphy, Ming and Qing Dynasty Porcelains. Wonderful, truly wonderful, such rare treasures were stolen just like that?!”

The more he looked at the items listed in the booklet, the angrier Uehara Keijiro became. ”Sang Luan Tie”, ”Yongle Encyclopedia”, even the ”Peking Man” Skull was taken.

”Weren’t there special police on duty outside the warehouse these past few days? How could there be a robbery? Are these special police just useless?”

Thinking about how so many treasures vanished overnight, Uehara Keijiro couldn’t remain calm. He suddenly remembered the special police on duty last night and cursed loudly.

The special police had already changed shifts; those who had worked all night barely got to sleep when they were awakened by urgent calls, learning about the theft at the National Museum, and rushed back to the museum.

The Police Department, upon receiving the report, took the major incident very seriously and immediately formed a task force, dispatching experts to investigate.

However, the more they investigated, the more the experts were perplexed.

According to the special police’s recollections, they had been guarding outside the warehouse door all night, just across the door from the warehouse, without hearing any noises from inside.

However, a few strange things did occur last night: the fire alarm upstairs suddenly went off, the warehouse door inexplicably opened by itself, but both incidents resulted in no serious consequences. The special police assured that no one entered or exited through the warehouse door.

”This door is the only passage to the inside of the warehouse. The entire warehouse is completely enclosed, without even windows. We inspected the ventilation ducts and found no signs of entry; the thieves did not enter through these ducts.”

They then checked the surveillance footage, which appeared normal. The massive museum was silent after closing, with no suspicious activity seen. Even the camera facing the warehouse door showed what the police said - not even a fly flew through.

This was highly perplexing; under such tight surveillance, no suspicious movements were captured, not even a shadow. How did these thieves enter the museum and silently steal items from the underground warehouse?

Especially after careful questioning, the task force was at an impasse.

The task force counted the stolen items, totaling over four thousand pieces. Small items like the ”Peking Man Skull” weight just a few hundred grams, while large ones like the Tang Dynasty Honglu Well Stele, the size of a wall at three meters wide, 1.8 meters high, and over nine tons. How could such a massive stone be moved without machinery?

Yet this massive stone stele disappeared overnight from the warehouse without a sound, just like magic.

”In total, these over four thousand antiques are historical cultural relics of Huaxia. The thieves clearly understand Chinese culture, knowing which artifacts are worth taking. They took only rare and invaluable items.”

”These over four thousand antiques are invaluable, their total weight exceeds twenty tons, needing at least the space of a room if stacked orderly. This proves that the thieves were likely a gang, numbering at least ten to twenty, and their ability to silently remove so many items in one night indicates premeditation.”

Hearing the Police Department’s statement, Uehara Keijiro was about to explode with anger. He wanted to curse them; how obvious was their statement that museum thieves are premeditated? Could theft just happen impulsively? What he wanted to hear was how these thieves executed their thefts and if they could be caught!

Yet Uehara Keijiro knew this wasn’t the time to lose his temper. He took a deep breath and said, ”Captain, we understand everything you’re saying. The priority now is to catch these thieves and recover the lost artifacts! That’s all I care about, no matter your methods; I just want the lost items back! Give me a straight answer: when can you help me find these artifacts?”

The task force was also shocked by the loss of such a large number of antiques at the National Museum, but with the incident already occurring, they could only try their best to investigate. But for Uehara Keijiro demanding a straight answer, this wasn’t something they could promise; they were police, not gods, unable to foresee when they could catch the thieves and recover the items.
