Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1005: Chapter 1001: Something Went Wrong!

When Gu Xu woke up, the room was still filled with the sweet, affectionate atmosphere from the night before. As he opened his eyes, he could see the little woman sleeping soundly on one side. Stretching out his hand, he easily pulled her into his arms.

Even as he held her, she didn’t wake up, murmuring sleepily, she found a comfortable position in his embrace and sank back into a deep sleep.

Watching her delicate face as she slept, Gu Xu’s usually stern eyes softened, filled with indulgent affection.

The first ray of dawn had already risen outside the window, yet the room remained quiet and peaceful. With the one he loved in his arms, he lowered his head to kiss her rounded forehead, her soft lips.

This feeling is so good.

After nearly thirty years of solitude, at this moment his heart was full, like finding the rib lost in a sea of people, Gu Xu couldn’t help but let out a sigh, incredibly satisfied.

Typically an early riser, he suddenly felt an urge to linger in bed. Now he understood why ancient emperors would say ”natural beauty is hard to abandon, and from then on, the monarch will not attend court early.” The warm brocade bed, the soft fragrance and gentle jade in his arms — the fleeting spring night is hard to find. Having tasted the best feeling this world has to offer, what man would be willing to leave this beauty’s nest?

Gu Xu lowered his head, looking at his wife’s quiet and gentle face, her striking beauty under the pillow of black hair, making him involuntarily recall the madness of last night. He felt a tightness in his lower abdomen, and couldn’t help but smile bitterly, adjusting his embrace to put some distance between himself and the enticing body that could awaken his beastly instincts at any moment.

Inside, warmth and harmony reigned, while outside, the first snow had stopped. After a night of heavy snowfall, the entire city was wrapped in white, covered in silver, extraordinarily enchanting.

However, amidst this deep festive atmosphere, was bound to be mixed with some unsettling factors. As children eagerly prepared to open the stockings at their bedheads, hoping to rummage through the Christmas gifts Santa had placed in them last night, the Dongdu National Museum received a truly startling ”Christmas surprise.”

Early in the morning, Uehara Keijiro received a call from the museum’s warehouse manager, the manager’s voice filled with panic and urgency: ”Director, something big has happened! The warehouse has been robbed!”

Uehara Keijiro was still groggy, but as soon as he heard the words warehouse and robbed, his mind instantly became clear. He sprang up from his bed, incredulously sternly asking, ”What did you say?!”

”You’d better come over and see for yourself!” The manager now sounded like he was on the verge of tears, completely at a loss, clearly flustered.

The manager had worked at the National Museum for thirty years. Every day his job was to carefully count the exhibits in the warehouse and museum, checking for any damage or loss, something he was very familiar with. He had successfully maintained a spotless record for years.

Yet today, that record was destined to be broken. As usual, when the manager entered the warehouse, he felt something was amiss before he even began the inventory.

Upon entering, it seemed something was missing. Thinking perhaps he was mistaken, he was about to pull out the ledger to check when he looked up and was dumbfounded.

The Tang Dynasty Honglu Well Stele, which used to stand behind the large stone pillar on the right side of the warehouse, was gone!

The manager thought he may have remembered the wrong place and quickly glanced around the warehouse, but after searching three or four times, he still couldn’t find it. Now sure that the stele was indeed missing, he was terrified and, trembling, picked up his phone to call the director.

Hearing the manager’s tearful voice, Uehara Keijiro felt his entire being was off. He was a bit overwhelmed, his mind blank, feeling as if he were still dreaming. He pinched his thigh hard, and the sudden pain made him realize it wasn’t an illusion, the museum really had been robbed.

Not daring to delay any longer, Uehara Keijiro hurriedly scrambled out of bed, hastily threw on some clothes, and rushed out, his anger steadily rising.

What kind of fool, with the courage to steal from the National Museum, had a death wish?

Face dark, Uehara Keijiro made his way to the National Museum. As soon as he parked the car, staff members were already there waiting anxiously. Seeing the director had arrived, as if finding their backbone, they quickly approached: ”Director, please go take a look, what do we do now?”

Something in the worker’s tone made Uehara Keijiro feel uneasy: ”What do you mean ’what to do’? Call the police, have them deal with it, capture the culprits first. By the way, what’s been stolen?”

The National Museum is a large antiquities exhibition hall, welcoming millions of visitors each year. Similarly, it has faced countless attempts of theft. Thus, although Uehara Keijiro was in a bad mood, he wasn’t particularly surprised by a museum theft.

Hearing that the warehouse had been robbed, Uehara Keijiro assumed only one item was missing. His concern was that the missing item might be a loaned treasure from another museum. If it was stolen while under his watch, the repercussions could be severe. He wasn’t sure if the theme exhibition scheduled in three days could proceed, and if news of this theft spread, it could damage the museum’s reputation.

Clearly though, Uehara Keijiro hadn’t yet grasped the gravity of the situation. After he questioned the staff, they turned pale, their eyes evasive, avoiding a direct answer, murmuring, ”You should go to the underground warehouse and see for yourself.”

Shooting the staff an icy look, Uehara Keijiro quickly head for the underground warehouse. As soon as he reached the entrance, he could hear sobbing from inside.

Uehara Keijiro frowned, stepping inside quickly, sternly reprimanding, ”Crying, crying, all you know is crying. What’s crying going to solve, what exactly is missing?”

Upon his arrival, the warehouse fell silent. The staff members furtively observed Uehara Keijiro’s expression before gesturing towards the manager.

The manager, unable to speak, looked ashen, his face as pale as a sheet of paper. Shaking, he handed over the inventory list, but his hands trembled so much that the book slipped and fell to the ground.
