Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1040: Chapter 1036: Caught

Liu Cheng was about to cry, being threatened with a gun by a senior colonel on one side and having a drunk idiot spouting nonsense on the other. His legs were getting weak, and he was about to wet his pants in fear.

Especially when Zhao Yang shouted about urinating on the armored vehicle, his voice was so loud that everybody on the ground heard it.

Liu Cheng felt like a thousand wild horses were trampling in his heart, wishing he could jump up and give Zhao Yang a good beating.

Damn it, Zhao Yang, you bastard, you get drunk and start talking nonsense, this time you’re really gonna get me killed!

If prior to witnessing the scene in the warehouse Liu Cheng felt excitement and shock, now he only felt regret and fear. If he’d known staying here would get him caught and held at gunpoint, he definitely wouldn’t be stupid enough to come here and seek his own death.

At this moment, Liu Cheng wished he could turn back time to an hour ago, just when he saw those armored vehicles appear. In that case, even with borrowed courage, he wouldn’t dare squat by the wall. He would have dragged this troublemaker Zhao Yang out of here with his tail between his legs!

Unfortunately, there is no medicine for regret in this world.

In fact, when he first saw those soldiers jumping out of the armored vehicles, Liu Cheng was very excited and proud, thinking he had gotten lucky and stumbled upon such a big scoop, with a single-minded focus to uncover the truth.

When those officers began organizing the entry into the warehouse to move things, and after seeing what the soldiers retrieved, Liu Cheng’s eyes widened in shock, his hands trembling, almost unable to hold onto his phone.

Seeing the soldiers move from Shang and Zhou Dynasty Bronze Artifact to Ming and Qing Dynasty Porcelains, and hearing experts exclaim they were national treasures, even Liu Cheng wasn’t stupid enough not to realize what was being taken from the warehouse.

He was well aware of the uproar online recently about the theft at the National Museum. Coincidentally, on the day the news broke, he was idly watching the National Museum’s public press conference video and specifically searched for information on the missing items. Although he couldn’t fully remember the names and specific details, he had a vague impression of what those items looked like.

Thus, after seeing the items the officers were moving, Liu Cheng realized a significant issue.

Some of the items held by the officers seemed to match the description of the artifacts that went missing from the Dongyang National Museum!

This discovery left Liu Cheng stunned, as a shocking and unbelievable idea suddenly popped into his mind.

Holy shit, these things, could they really have been smuggled back from Dongyang?

The more he thought about it, the more Liu Cheng felt his guess was correct. If it were merely transporting some ordinary crafts, how could it involve the military? Moreover, the lowest rank among these officers was a lieutenant colonel, ordinary people wouldn’t be able to command them. With so many high-ranking officers appearing on the outskirts, the only possibility is that the value of the items from the warehouse is extraordinarily high, necessitating military escort!

Realizing he might have uncovered a big news story, Liu Cheng’s heart raced, his eyes reddening. He tightly gripped his phone, adjusting the focus to capture clearer footage of the situation over there.

And it was at this moment that Zhao Yang, who was drunk and sleeping by the wall, felt uncomfortable, muttering discontentedly, ”Where’s my blanket, where’s my damn blanket?”

The sound frightened Liu Cheng, who instinctively crouched down to cover Zhao Yang’s mouth, but in a panic, he stepped on a branch by the wall, which made a crunching noise, alerting the people over there.

Liu Cheng felt so angry with Zhao Yang for screwing things up but was helpless at this moment.

When the senior colonel heard Zhao Yang’s threat to urinate on the armored vehicle, a cold gleam flashed in his sharp eyes, which narrowed involuntarily.

Liu Cheng’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly explained, ”Officer, I’m really sorry, my friend had a bit too much to drink at noon and spoke out of turn. He truly didn’t mean it; he just has a habit of talking big and didn’t actually want to do anything.”

But who would’ve thought that while Liu Cheng was pleading desperately, Zhao Yang, oblivious to the situation, attempted to go touch that armored vehicle.

Liu Cheng hadn’t secured him with a steady hand before Zhao Yang staggered a few steps towards the giant vehicle parked there.

Liu Cheng panicked, watching helplessly as Zhao Yang took just a couple of steps before one of the officers flipped him to the ground with a shoulder throw.

The severe pain made Zhao Yang cry out, clearing his mind instantly. Looking up to a group of soldiers glaring at him, Zhao Yang was immediately dumbfounded.

”No, officer... really, we made a mistake... we just passed by accidentally, we mean no harm...”

Liu Cheng was so frightened that his heart was about to leap out of his chest, almost kneeling in fear, his mind blank, pleading instinctively.

At this moment, Huo Sining locked the warehouse door and came out. Seeing this situation, she paused for a second, then walked up swiftly and asked, ”What’s going on here?”

The senior colonel immediately responded, ”Report to the Chief, two unidentified individuals were found. How should we proceed? Please give your instructions.”

Huo Sining was really not used to this senior colonel calling her Chief, which made her feel like using borrowed authority to pose as powerful. However, since the person was assigned by Chief Lu, it wasn’t appropriate to blatantly embarrass him.

She involuntarily twitched her mouth and turned back to see the standing person and the one being restrained, furrowing her brows: ”Why is it you two? The warehouse lease contract has already been signed. What’s the issue now?”

Seeing the senior colonel call this young lady Chief, Liu Cheng couldn’t care about much else and hurriedly explained, ”Miss Huo, please help us plead with this officer, we really just stumbled upon this place unintentionally. We had lunch at a nearby farmhouse restaurant and remembered that we forgot to record the power meter, so we came back to record its reading and ended up seeing these armored vehicles and officers...”

Huo Sining interrupted Liu Cheng directly, her gaze sharply fixing on him: ”When did you arrive, and how much did you see?!”

Liu Cheng couldn’t help but shrink back, his eyes dodging as he avoided meeting Huo Sining’s gaze: ”We... we didn’t see much...”

Huo Sining’s gaze swept over Liu Cheng’s pocket, seemingly guessing something, and said with a faint smile, ”Will you take it out yourself, or shall I search you?”
