Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1032: Chapter 1028: Do You Believe in Resurrection After Death?

Entering the house, Huo Sining looked around joyfully, inspecting from top to bottom without stopping. Gu Xu let her have her fun and immediately headed into the kitchen, where the clangs and clatters left her wondering what he was tinkering with.

Huo Sining explored the entire European-style house, feeling very satisfied with the estate, particularly fond of the house’s interior design, which matched her own preferences. Standing at the floor-to-ceiling windows, she could take in the scenery of the entire garden.

In such a house, raising a dog, two people, and cooking three meals a day, one could weather all four seasons. Just the thought of this filled Huo Sining with a profound sense of happiness.

She looked back instinctively, searching for the figure of that person.

The warm-toned lighting softly illuminated the kitchen. By the stove stood a tall, robust figure intently chopping something. Huo Sining felt a tenderness bloom within her, leaning against the kitchen door, watching the man busy with his tasks. Everything seemed so serene and captivating; only eternity could describe such a scene.

Feeling warmth in her heart, Huo Sining couldn’t help but step forward and gently embrace the man from behind, resting her head on Gu Xu’s broad back.

Gu Xu turned his head and dipped down to peck her cheek lightly, then smiled and asked, ”Finished checking everything? How’s the house, satisfied? If there’s anything you don’t like, just say it, and I’ll get someone to come and fix it.”

Huo Sining shook her head, holding him tightly around the waist, and after a long moment spoke, ”It’s all what I like; no need for changes. It’s great as it is.”

Gu Xu’s lips curved gently as he looked softly at the green onion on the chopping board, not pushing her away. He tenderly replied, ”As long as you like it, that’s what matters. Don’t move; I’m chopping some ingredients. You didn’t eat much earlier, so I’ll make you some chicken noodle soup. We didn’t prepare much else in terms of ingredients, so it’s the best I can do.”

Huo Sining nodded, still embracing him, yet curiously peeking over to watch as he skillfully chopped vegetables. Then suddenly, she asked, ”When did you prepare this house?”

Gu Xu paused his chopping, turned around, and said, ”It was probably after that time we came back from Pingzhou. In Guangcheng, when you pretended to be my wife to apprehend a thug with a bomb in a moment of crisis, didn’t an old lady comment that we looked like a couple? That’s when I thought it would be nice to marry a little wife like you.”

”After returning to the Imperial Capital, I came clean to the elders, determined to win you over and make you my wife in the Gu Family! Just then, the group was developing a plot of land here, so I reserved this spot, and later, as I gradually got to know you, I learned about your preferences. So I had the designer create this house just for you.”

”The house isn’t big, but it will definitely be enough for the two of us and our future kids. If you ever want to stay in the old courtyard, we can always go back. But this will be our new home. What do you think, my wife?”

”You’ve planned so far ahead; I haven’t even married you yet. Where are these imaginary kids coming from?!” Huo Sining’s face flushed red as she playfully scoffed at him.

Gu Xu smiled mischievously, ”Are you doubting my abilities? Kids, don’t we just need to put in some effort and hard work, and voilà?”

”Get lost, you old rascal!” As soon as Huo Sining saw that glint in Gu Xu’s eyes, she knew he was up to no good again and rolled her eyes at him in mock annoyance.

Recalling Gu Xu’s earlier words, however, she was moved, and a touch of sharpness pricked at the corners of her eyes:

”I remember at the Pingzhou Public Plate, you were just tagging along with Ouyang Jun for the fun of it, right? Did you really start liking me back then? Counting the rainy night in S City when I saved you and the auction where I sold ambergris, the Pingzhou Public Plate was only our third meeting, right? How did you come to like me so soon?”

”That was the fourth time.”

Huo Sining froze, a confused expression crossing her face, ”Hmm?”

Gu Xu turned around, holding her shoulders, and with a serious expression, looked intently at Huo Sining, correcting her, ”No, you’re mistaken. The Pingzhou Public Plate was the fourth time; you’re missing one encounter.”

Confused, Huo Sining pondered, and Gu Xu reminded her, ”In the Su Group’s Donghua reception hall, I was discussing a collaboration project with Su Jinyuan. After the meeting, when we came downstairs, you were sitting in the reception hall with your eyes fixed on me, and I caught your gaze right away.”

Huo Sining was suddenly taken aback; she recalled that it was less than half a month after she had arrived in S City when she encountered a benefactor. Su Jinyuan purchased the pearls she was selling, giving her over three million in a single night.

Afterward, she had set her sights on a store that sold ornamental fish. The owner, being chased by loan sharks, was forced to sell.

At that time, she happened to want to open a store, and after a negotiation with the owner, she decided to buy the store for four million.

The price was agreed upon, but she was still short a significant amount of money. To raise funds, she went to Su Jinyuan with the pearls once more.

It was at this time, in the Su Group’s Donghua hall, that she unexpectedly saw Gu Xu.

This encounter instantly brought back memories of her past life with Gu Xu, leaving her stunned in place, staring blankly at Gu Xu.

Perhaps her gaze was too intent, as her spying was promptly caught by Gu Xu.

”Your gaze left a lasting impression; it quickly piqued my curiosity and interest in you. My wife, I’m certain we hadn’t met before that encounter. Why did you look at me like that in Su Group’s Donghua? Was it intentional, or did you mistake me for someone else?”

Gu Xu’s mind lingered on the memory of the young woman’s eyes in the hall, filled with surprise, joy, gratitude, embarrassment, and panic—a complex expression that captivated him in an instant, leading him to become hopelessly enchanted.

Huo Sining was dumbfounded; she never expected that a single hurried glance would linger so deeply in Gu Xu’s mind, keeping him preoccupied till now.

Huo Sining wanted to make an excuse to dismiss it, but upon seeing Gu Xu’s earnest eyes, she found herself unable to spin the lie.

This man was wholeheartedly opening himself up to her, hoping she would truly accept him in return; deceiving him would be an affront to the emotions Gu Xu held dear.

Huo Sining sighed inwardly, lifted her head, and met Gu Xu’s gaze intently, asking in a low voice, ”Gu Xu, do you believe that after death, one can come back to life?”
