Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1010: Chapter 1006: Exactly as desired

Even though it wasn’t surprising, Huo Sining and Gu Xu still perked up their ears, trying to listen clearly to the discussion next door, attempting to discern the progress of events from these gossips.

Upon hearing that the director of the National Museum couldn’t handle the shock and ended up in the hospital, a trace of schadenfreude flashed in Huo Sining’s eyes. She lifted her head and looked mischievously at Gu Xu, her lips moved as she mouthed two words: ”Serves him right!”

Seventy years ago, those Dongyang Expeditionary Forces burned, killed, looted in Huaxia Country, dispatching various expeditions to collect renowned calligraphy and paintings and other Chinese artifacts everywhere. Exactly how many items were stolen and transported back to Dongyang can be glimpsed at by looking at the collections inside the National Museum Warehouse.

Compared to the countless artifacts snatched and divided by Dongyang from Huaxia, the things taken by Huo Sining are nothing significant—merely a drop in the ocean. If it weren’t because her storage ring was too small, Huo Sining truly wished to empty the warehouse.

These items originally belong to Huaxia, even though they’ve been stored for many years at the Dongdu National Museum, no one can change this fact. Her taking the items was just returning them to their rightful owner.

The progress of events is as Huo Sining anticipated, yet far exceeded her expectations.

The power of ordinary Dongyang citizens should not be underestimated. Under the media and public demonstrations, the pressure of public opinion forced the National Museum and Police Department to disclose the details of the case, hold a press conference, and expose the theft incident at the National Museum.

It was noon, and Huo Sining and Gu Xu were in the restaurant. Facing them was a giant television screen, initially airing a midday TV drama, suddenly interrupted by breaking news:

”Now broadcasting a news segment. Due to the rumored theft at the National Museum, the whole nation is closely watching. The museum has responded that a press conference will be held at noon. Next, our reporter will connect directly with the press conference site—”

Huo Sining and Gu Xu froze. If such a thing had happened domestically, it would probably be covered up by any means before anything else. Where would they so openly disclose it? But thinking about Dongyang people’s fighting spirit, Huo Sining couldn’t help but sympathize with the National Museum; if they kept concealing it, it might make things more confusing and dissatisfy the public.

Papers can’t wrap fire. The National Museum is forced by circumstances, especially losing so many artifacts, they simply cannot explain.

Next was the press conference site. Several museum leaders and members from the Police Department sat on stage, dozens of reporters surrounding the podium, their microphones aimed like long guns at those sitting on stage.

Huo Sining noted that among the museum leaders was Chairman Tanaka, who had taken her into the National Museum Warehouse yesterday. The corner of her mouth lifted in a sneer, silently mourning this confused fellow.

The sharp questions and doubts from the reporters left the leaders on stage pale-faced, unable to sit still. With Uehara Keijiro absent, everything seemed chaotic. Eventually, a Deputy Director from the museum had to muster the courage to stand up and laboriously say:

”Indeed, last night, the National Museum was robbed. Currently, the Dongdu Police Department has established a task force specifically to investigate this museum theft. This incident was a negligence of the museum, but it also reflects the audacity of the thieves. Such an occurrence is what none of us wanted, and this case will definitely be thoroughly pursued. We will leave no stone unturned, ensuring these thieves have nowhere to hide. Justice will prevail; we will absolutely not allow any suspect to evade the law’s punishment!”

”Of course, considering the public’s right to know, we will not conceal the details of this theft. The museum has completed an inventory of the lost items, and now I will inform everyone of the stolen items. The specific details will soon be published on the police website and major media forums and newspapers. If anyone has clues or news, you’re welcome to contact the Police Department. Thank you all for your cooperation. Every valuable lead you provide is crucial to the Police Department’s investigation!”

When the official words were finished, the Deputy Director pulled a paper from the table, pale-faced, and began to read: ”The items lost include...”

The further he read, the more uproarious the media became, causing chaos in the whole venue. The public, who thought only one or two things were stolen, became dumbfounded when hearing that long list of items, some couldn’t control their emotions and started crying, while others loudly questioned whether the museum had made a mistake—how could thieves steal so many items overnight?

The restaurant on the hotel’s first floor was packed. Yet no one was eating. Everyone was staring wide-eyed at the display screen hanging on the wall. Hearing the Deputy Director’s voice from the television, shock and dismay appeared on every face.

Gu Xu was dumbstruck. He knew Huo Sining and her senior brother went into the museum to pull off something big, but he didn’t know the specific deeds.

Previously, Huo Sining vaguely explained wanting to swap the items inside, but Gu Xu never imagined that within just a few hours, these two had done so much in the museum warehouse, swapping the national treasures and invaluable artifacts loaned from other museums without mentioning safely taking them all out.

Gu Xu felt dazed. Previously, he thought of his wife as a little reckless, but now it seemed this was beyond reckless—it was downright lawless! Doing such things, was she intending to rock the heavens?

Gu Xu instinctively swallowed, glanced around, and nervously lowered his voice to ask: ”How did you guys get so many things out? Where are they hidden now? Are they safe?”

Huo Sining squinted and smiled: ”Rest assured, absolutely safe. And it won’t be long before they can be transported back to the country.”

However, what Huo Sining didn’t tell Gu Xu was that the press conference announcing the stolen items, were items swapped with other museum’s exhibition artifacts by her, only accounting for a small portion of the theft.

Huo Sining could understand why the museum didn’t dare release details of the remaining stolen artifacts. Those items would never see the light of day, and if exposed, it might trigger a peak confrontation between Huaxia and Dongyang, which is not what the National Museum wanted to see. So they kept it hidden, hoping to quietly recover this part of the stolen artifacts through police investigation.

Yet, the more the museum acted this way, the more it played right into Huo Sining’s hands.

With the National Museum not daring to disclose the detailed list of stolen artifacts, Huo Sining benefited greatly. When she eventually brings the items back to the country, even if exhibited later, she could make excuses that these were newly unearthed relics. By that time, the National Museum would suffer this dumb loss for sure!
