Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 495: Chapter 491 Old Fangzhang

On Li Xuanbing’s forehead, there actually loomed a mass of black, malevolent energy!

Huo Sining was startled and turned to grab Feng Yang’s arm, only to discover that Feng Yang’s forehead was also covered in a dark cloud.

Huo Sining realized something was wrong. Could there really be such a thing as a curse from an evil spirit in this world?

Unable to make heads or tails of it, Huo Sining’s mind was in disarray. When she returned to her dorm, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

The next morning, just when everyone thought Professor Xie was just putting on an act, Feng Yang and Li Xuanbing came out, one with a bruised and swollen face, the other limping.

Huo Sining’s eyes twitched as she quickly asked, ”What happened to you both?”

”While brushing my teeth in the morning, the chandelier hanging above fell on my head.”

”Last night, I fell off the bed while sleeping.”

Just as they finished speaking, Captain Wu came out from outside, his arm wrapped in bandages, cursing as he walked, ”It’s really freaking weird, driving fine and then suddenly crashing into a tree, almost cost me my life!”

Feng Yang and Li Xuanbing were both stunned and suddenly seemed to think of something. They looked at each other involuntarily, their eyes filled with shock and fear.

Yesterday, the three of them had touched the Tang Sancai horse figurine, and all three suffered misfortune the same night.

Thinking of the tragic state of the construction worker, Li Xuanbing’s face turned pale with fright, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.

Feng Yang, however, felt that something was amiss and subconsciously glanced over at Huo Sining.

If he remembered correctly, Huo Sining had also touched that Tang Sancai horse figurine, in fact, before he and Li Xuanbing had.

But why was she alright?

Feng Yang was puzzled, but then he thought that maybe it just hadn’t taken effect yet and secretly worried for Huo Sining.

Fortunately, by noon, Xie Daoyuan had indeed invited an old bald Fangzhang over.

Huo Sining was curious whether the Fangzhang could really see through the malevolence of the Tang Sancai, but to her disappointment, the man played mysterious and only allowed those who had touched the horse figurine to enter his room one by one, barring anyone else from approaching.

In fact, Huo Sining was somewhat skeptical in her heart.

She didn’t know what exactly the Tang Sancai was about, and the black malevolence on the horse figurine was definitely suspicious; otherwise, the construction worker wouldn’t have died of fright right at the entrance of the ancient tomb, and Feng Yang wouldn’t have had his series of unfortunate events.

But could this monk really be so effective? Could he actually be a charlatan?

Li Xuanbing was the first to enter Old Fang’s room, but when she came out and Huo Sining asked her about it, Li Xuanbing appeared completely clueless, not knowing what had happened while she was inside.

”After I went in, the Fangzhang asked me to sit down, then he started chanting something that sounded like the Great Compassion Mantra. I felt dizzy, just listening to him reciting the sutra, and then I felt an itchy and numb sensation all over, as if there was something cool and refreshing like ice and snow inside my body; I felt so comfortable that I dozed off.”

The feeling described by Li Xuanbing was remarkably similar to the sensation Huo Sining felt after she circulated the Spirit of Azure Pearl for an entire cycle on her own.

Hearing this, Huo Sining was perplexed and couldn’t help but extend her hand to Li Xuanbing’s wrist and scanned it with her Heavenly Eye.

With this look, she was stunned—the mass of black energy that had previously enveloped Li Xuanbing’s forehead had indeed vanished.

Could that monk really be that powerful?

Huo Sining was skeptical. As Feng Yang and Captain Wu went into that room and came back out, she quickly followed suit and walked in.

”Sit down.”

Seeing Huo Sining walk in, the old monk, sitting on the bed plank, gestured for her to sit on the cushion on the ground in front of him, his hands clasping the Buddha Beads, ready to begin chanting scriptures.

However, at that moment, his body suddenly tensed, and he sharply raised his head, looking at Huo Sining with surprise.

A flash of astonishment crossed his eyes, and quickly he stood up, remained silent, and stared solemnly at her.

Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat. Under the monk’s clear, bright gaze, she felt an overwhelming sense of oppression wash over her, her heartbeat pounding like a drum, her whole being as if exposed to the sunlight where all her secrets seemed thoroughly probed by this person.

She did not know how much time passed when the monk lowered his head, his gaze sweeping across Huo Sining’s forehead, his expression slightly focused. Then with a faint smile and a sigh, he said,

”Little Benefactor, this old monk has a few words for you.”

”All things are at your disposal, yet belong not to you. You only need to remember what this old monk says. In the Root, Body, and Vessel Realm, all phenomena are mirages, empty flowers on the water, clinging to them only increases your troubles.”

”Mountains may turn green to yellow again; with no dust in the eyes, the three realms are vast. All phenomena are illusory; seeing through them and letting go is the true rebirth.”

Huo Sining trembled, looking up at the old monk with fear, a storm of shock and disbelief raging within her.

What did the old monk mean? Did he know she had been reborn?!

After a long stunned silence, Huo Sining finally managed to say dryly, ”Master, what do you mean by your words? I don’t quite understand.”

The monk smiled, shaking his head, ”In time, you will understand the essence of what this old monk said today.”

At this point, the old monk paused, his gaze resting on Huo Sining’s forehead, implying,

”All conditional phenomena arise from causes and conditions. The greater your abilities, the greater your responsibilities. I hope the Benefactor can hold true to her heart, neither despairing at life’s hardships nor clinging to its joys, then you shall truly achieve greatness.”

The greater your abilities, the greater your responsibilities?!

Huo Sining was greatly shaken. The monk’s words seemed pointed, as if he already knew the secrets she harbored.

Subconsciously, she thought to lower her head to hide the Water-Repelling Pearl and Heavenly Eye, but she became abruptly aware as her head dipped.

If he had already seen through her secrets, her attempt to hide them would only make things worse.

So she brazenly raised her head to look directly at Old Fangzhang, the fear fading from her eyes, leaving only clarity:

”Master speaks with the wisdom of Buddhist sayings, and though the student only partly understands, she will undoubtedly bear in mind the teachings of the master.”

Seeing Huo Sining understand so quickly, the old Fangzhang smiled and nodded lightly in approval, ”Indeed, you are an intelligent child. It is not in vain that...”

Old Fangzhang’s words trailed off there, the previous scrutiny and probing gone, replaced only by a kindly and indifferent demeanor.

Not in vain? Huo Sining did not understand what enigma Old Fangzhang was alluding to, but since he was unwilling to elaborate, she did not pursue further.

”Let’s recite the scriptures.” Old Fangzhang did not forget his duty, his beads clicking as he began to chant.

Thanks to the Spirit of Azure Pearl’s Aura Protection, Huo Sining’s body was not corroded by negative energy, and she did not feel the chanting was of any use to her, so initially, she didn’t care much.

However, she soon felt changes in her body. As Old Fangzhang’s scriptures were chanted over and over, the Water-Repelling Pearl uncontrollably emerged from her forehead and began to rotate slowly during the recitation process.
