Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 460: Chapter 456: Tricking Dad

Huo Sining of the Gu Family was someone he knew; she worked in the publicity department, dealing with texts all day, so it was impossible for her to have gone to Dashilan to buy antiques.

In an instant, An Zhonghai’s mind recalled the event from years ago when Liu Manshu had attended the Huang Family’s evening banquet at Chun Jing Garden.

After returning that day, Liu Manshu had told An Zhonghai about the incidents that occurred at the banquet, including Huo Sining being taken as Zhou Shitao’s Closed-door Disciple and recognized by the Lu Family as an honorary granddaughter. Liu Manshu couldn’t help but sigh that the Huang Family had struck it lucky, hitching a ride with a big tree.

An Zhonghai was no fool, and quickly understood that Guo Dongliang wouldn’t lie. Therefore, the daughter-in-law of the Gu Family he mentioned couldn’t have been Chen Yu but the one yet to be wed, who was recently the center of a significant stir in the Imperial Capital—the newly acknowledged grandniece of the Huang Family.

An Zhonghai realized today’s incident had escalated; he could cover for An Yueru’s savage and arrogant misdeeds in the past due to his family’s power, but this time she had provoked someone the An Family simply couldn’t afford to mess with.

Guo Dongliang hadn’t shared with An Zhonghai the fact that Chief Lu had personally arrived at the police station, or else An Zhonghai would have surely fainted from fright at this moment.

On the other hand, after obtaining the set of porcelain bowls, An Yueru hadn’t handed them over to Ma Liwen but had taken them back to the An Family’s home instead.

At this point, she was unaware of the massive trouble she had caused, proudly explaining the true value of the enamel set to Liu Manshu, which left Liu Manshu utterly astonished.

The mother and daughter were happily chatting when An Zhonghai’s phone call suddenly came through, unloading a barrage of scolding at An Yueru:

”I’m giving you ten minutes to hurry back to Dashilan Front Street. I’m waiting for you here, and bring that set of enamel you got today with you, exactly as it is!”

An Yueru had always held a measure of fear for her father; when An Zhonghai summoned her out, she hurried to Dashilan without delay.

But at this moment, she still didn’t understand that her grievous mistake was about to turn the An Family upside down, so she was somewhat irritated on the way over, and spoke with a sharp tone:

”Dad, why the urgent call over here? What’s going on?”

An Zhonghai, fighting to contain his rage, pointed towards the set of enamel in An Yueru’s hand and demanded, ”Show me that set of enamel!”

Seeing An Zhonghai’s grim expression, An Yueru hesitantly handed the enamel over to him, still confused and unaware of what was suddenly happening.

After inspecting the porcelain bowls one by one and confirming that there were no issues, An Zhonghai finally looked up coldly at An Yueru:

”Where did you get this from?”

An Yueru, taken aback, then recalling her actions that day, felt a bit guilty. Her eyes flickered, and she subconsciously ran her fingers through her hair by her temple as she said, ”I bought it at Dashilan.”

”Bought it? How much did you spend?” An Zhonghai could tell that An Yueru was lying just by looking at her. He had watched her grow up and knew her habits. When An Yueru lied, she always had a tendency to unconsciously touch her hair.

”Not much, eighty thousand,” An Yueru’s eyes darted around, not wanting to linger on this topic. ”Dad, what did you really want to see me for?”

An Zhonghai was furious, ”Eighty thousand? Where did you get eighty thousand? Don’t try to fool me with the tricks you use on your mom. She might not know you, but do you think your old man doesn’t? Even if you were buying antiques, you’d just spend ten or twenty thousand at most. If you were to buy a set of porcelain for eighty thousand, you’d definitely come asking me for money. And you mainly study ancient jade and paintings with Ma Liwen. Porcelain is not your forte at all!”

As soon as An Yueru heard this, she became indignant, ”Dad, so what if I don’t know porcelain? I can’t buy it? I bought this set after it was checked by a professor. Enamel—you know how much it’s worth? Although only two pieces in this set are genuine, a single piece could be worth tens of millions! I spent eighty thousand for two pieces worth tens of millions, what’s wrong with that?”

An Zhonghai felt like he was going to cough up blood upon hearing An Yueru’s words. Pointing at her with a finger, he angrily said:

”If you really bought it with your own abilities for eighty thousand, I wouldn’t have said a word. But did you really buy it? You took it by force from someone else!”

”If it’s just eighty thousand, that’s one thing, but for antiques worth tens of millions, you would misuse your father’s authority to take them and even put people behind bars!”

”By doing so, you’re not only stained with the crimes of stealing and robbery but you’re also making others point fingers at your old man’s spine!”

When An Yueru saw her lies unveiled, she was somewhat panicked, but then she thought of Huo Sining as just a powerless and moneyless orphan and dismissed the concern:

”Dad, no one will find out about this. That Huo Sining is just a commoner. And that Chief Tian I sought out has a tight lip, he won’t spill a word. Besides, he wants to stay in the shade of your big tree for promotion and wealth. If he doesn’t handle this properly, I’ll have him pack up and go back home!”

An Zhonghai didn’t know which words could describe what he was feeling at the moment.

In the past, he felt that his daughter was more sensible than the Liang family’s children. An Yueru didn’t engage in fighting, racing, drug abuse, or the nightclub scene. Although she saw the debauchery of those spoiled rich kids, she wouldn’t follow suit.

An Yueru had become Ma Liwen’s student and showed great talent in playing with antiques and learning treasure appraisal. An Zhonghai had always been proud of having such a clever daughter, but now he didn’t think so. What he had raised wasn’t a daughter; she was a disaster!

”So you’re proud of yourself, huh? How do you know she’s just a commoner? Does her face read ’I am a commoner’? How much are you worth that you can label others as commoners?”

An Zhonghai’s face had turned utterly cold. He was not a competent husband, nor a competent father. That his daughter had turned out this way was largely his fault—for his indulgence and protection had allowed An Yueru to become so lawless and self-righteous.

”Dad, what’s gotten into you? It’s just a set of porcelain bowls. Why are you holding a criticism session for me? I know what I did was wrong. Rest assured, I won’t do it again next time, alright?”

An Yueru was born in an official’s house, so from day to day, she was immersed in various forms of flattery and fawning. Now, seeing her father’s discontented expression, she immediately began to entreat and seek favor.

Too bad she had no idea that she had offended someone whom not even An Zhonghai could afford to offend. It wasn’t about next time; she wouldn’t escape the consequences even this time.

Weary, An Zhonghai closed his eyes and said, ”Later, return the items to that woman and apologize to her. My secretary is already preparing for it. If she doesn’t forgive you, you’re leaving tonight. You’ll go to your aunt’s place, stay abroad for a few years, and then come back!”
