Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 470: Chapter 466: Teacup

Since only Ji Kun and another professor remained outside the ancient tomb while the other professors had descended into it, all the interns had to follow Ji Kun’s arrangements.

Now, even if they were reluctant upon hearing Ji Kun’s words, as more and more artifacts were unearthed from the tomb, they had no choice but to follow his instructions.

Being assigned to the numbering process meant Huo Sining and Ding Liang were the only two interns among the students who could come into contact with all the artifacts, a realization that made Huo Sining secretly chuckle with joy.

Though Ji Kun seemed to be impartial in public and private matters, this arrangement to clean the artifacts clearly favored her and Ding Liang.

Just by looking at the envious and jealous eyes of the other interns, it was clear that the job Huo Sining and Ding Liang had secured was indeed a big advantage.

Li Xuanbing was the one who was most dissatisfied. She naturally had no complaints about Ding Liang being responsible for numbering the artifacts, but why should Huo Sining, the least experienced, also be assigned to the numbering group?

Seeing Huo Sining with a smile on her face, Li Xuanbing found it unbearably irritating and wished nothing more than to rush up and drive Huo Sining away to feel at ease.

But Huo Sining couldn’t care less about what Li Xuanbing thought; although the numbering work was simple, it was unforgiving of carelessness, leaving her no time to think about such trivial matters.

She focused intently on numbering each unearthed artifact and then carefully placed them into specially made wooden boxes, experiencing the profound impact each artifact had on her.

As she had expected, perhaps due to the artifacts’ great age, every piece that was excavated was enveloped in a strong purple aura, and Huo Sining saw strange visions nearly every time she touched one while numbering them.

At that moment, Huo Sining’s heart was filled with affection for Senior Brother Ji Kun; his favoritism was just too perfect!

Just moving the burial items from the corridor to the drain took a full three hours. The tomb was surprisingly large, and craft items such as painted pottery figurines, cavalry figurines, and ceramic vessels filled a total of fifty boxes.

Not only that, the archaeologists also discovered rich and colorful murals on the stone walls from the tomb passage to the burial chamber, including images of imperial court processions, celestial diagrams, and figures of court ladies.

It was only after all the burial items had been transported that Xie Daoyuan and several other professors emerged from the tomb.

Although the professors were weary, their faces were filled with joy, especially Xie Daoyuan, who, upon exiting the tomb, said to Ji Kun with a smile,

”That was a false alarm, the burial chamber seems untouched, it seems the tomb robbers only got as far as the thieves’ tunnel but didn’t enter for some reason. We lost some burial items, but the impact is minimal!”

This was truly the best news they had heard all day. Xie Daoyuan took the mineral water handed over by Huo Sining and gulped several mouthfuls, and, not minding the mud on his body, walked out of the tomb pit to inspect the sealed burial items.

The next task of opening the tomb’s coffin chamber wouldn’t be so simple. Ancient tombs were often equipped with complex traps and secret passageways, and a single misstep could be fatal.

However, with this batch of burial items, they would have enough to study for a while. Before confirming the identity of the tomb’s owner, Xie Daoyuan and the others dared not casually move the stone door of the burial chamber.

”This afternoon, let several professors lead the interns to continue cleaning the burial items, and we will go nearby to take a look around and get a better understanding of the situation,” Xie Daoyuan suddenly said.

Huo Sining was puzzled but didn’t ask any questions. She didn’t understand archaeology, so the wisest thing to do was to follow behind Xie Daoyuan and Ji Kun obediently, listening, observing, and learning.

With Xie Daoyuan’s experience, his suggestion to take a look around was certainly not for leisure. There must be another purpose.

In the afternoon, led by Xie Daoyuan, Ji Kun, Ding Liang, and Huo Sining, the group entered a secluded village in the hinterlands along a mountain trail, and all they saw was a row of run-down houses.

Since the developers had already bought this part of the village to build a resort, most of the villagers had moved away. One could see no one on the road, not to mention cars or even a single dog.

They walked for an unknown duration before they finally saw a residence, another dilapidated house, but this one was inhabited and had a few hens.

The four hadn’t gleaned any information that afternoon and were extremely tired. The sudden sight of an inhabited house was thrilling.

Weary and thirsty, the group eagerly asked the homeowner for water to drink.

The homeowner was an old man who, though surprised to see several city folks arriving, warmly invited everyone into the house to sit down and poured lukewarm water from a teapot for the four to drink.

”Thank you.” Throat smoking, Huo Sining didn’t bother being polite; she took the porcelain bowl from the old man’s hand, ready to gulp the water down.

Unexpectedly, just then, the Azure Pearl on her forehead began to throb violently, and her Heavenly Eye simultaneously opened. Before her eyes, this unassuming porcelain bowl was enveloped in a thick purple Spiritual Energy, with a lotus flower blooming in front of her.

There was something amiss with this bowl!

Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat, and the bowl nearly fell from her grasp.

It was beyond her imagination that the bowl, casually used by the old man from the village to serve water, could actually be an antique!

She quickly finished the tepid water in the bowl, and after swallowing it, Huo Sining felt much more comfortable.

Only then did she covertly examine the bowl in her hands.

It was a completely white-glazed porcelain bowl, with an open mouth and a ring foot; the lower abdomen of the bowl was slightly indented, a bit different from the bowls commonly used in households for dining but not particularly conspicuous.

Because of long-term use, the bottom of the bowl had developed many fine cracks, but they did not affect its usability.

Seeing Huo Sining staring at the bowl, the old man thought she wanted to drink more water, so he refilled her bowl.

As the water rippled, Huo Sining felt as though something was trying to seep out from the inner wall of the white-glazed porcelain bowl, but after using her Heavenly Eye Skill, she could not find anything out of the ordinary hidden inside the bowl’s inner wall.

Huo Sining found it curious, feeling that there was something peculiar about the bowl wall, but she had not yet understood what it was exactly.

Seeing the old man intently watching her, Huo Sining said with a smile, ”Sir, your bowl must be quite old, right?”

The old man, seeing Huo Sining holding the water without drinking and just staring intently at his bowl, thought she was put off by the cleanliness of the bowl, so he naively smiled and said,

”City folks sure are particular, but young lady, rest assured, I clean this bowl every day, and it’s absolutely free of bacteria. You city people drink tap water every day, which I’ve heard has purifiers added to it, but nothing beats the sweetness of my natural well water!”

Huo Sining immediately felt somewhat embarrassed with his words, ”Sir, you misunderstand, your water tastes very good. I was just admiring the bowl and felt it looked like something with some years on it, so I wanted to ask about it.”
