Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 463: Chapter 459 Where’s the Promised Veteran Expert?

”You’re not coming back?” Gu Xu was stunned when he received the call from Huo Sining, ”Why?”

”Master has asked me to pack up and go to Taicheng with Senior Brother Ji Kun.”

”What are you going to do in Taicheng?” Gu Xu frowned.

”I’m not exactly sure, I’ve just heard that an ancient tomb was discovered there, and they want me to take a look.”

Huo Sining felt somewhat guilty; in fact, Elder Master Zhou Shitao had already explained the reason for going to Taicheng when they were at the Zhou Family.

However, the order from above was to keep the matter a strict secret and not to leak any information. Huo Sining wasn’t sure whether she could tell Gu Xu, so she didn’t go into details and was vague.

Fortunately, Gu Xu didn’t ask too much, which relieved Huo Sining.

”Alright then, just take care of yourself.” Gu Xu glanced at his latest assignment and couldn’t help but smile smugly, pride evident on his face.

You little rascal, keeping me in the dark. Wait until I deal with you!

Due to an unexpected change of plans, Huo Sining called the Lu Family and asked Song Chunxue to take Lu Ruiqi to S City first, and they would talk after she returned to S City in a few days.

Lu Ruiqi’s condition had improved and was under control, and with Huo Sining’s firm claim that she could treat him, Song Chunxue felt much more at ease. Although she was slightly unhappy about delaying the treatment for a few days, she didn’t voice her concerns.

Chief Lu, however, had already been informed and immediately agreed without hesitation when he heard Huo Sining was going to Taicheng with Ji Kun.

Su Qingqing also learned about the Taicheng Ancient Tomb from Xie Daoyuan, although she didn’t know much. When she found out that Huo Sining was actually going with Ji Kun, she felt both envious and jealous:

”As expected, being a disciple of a great master has its perks. For such a major event, junior appraisers without credentials are not even allowed to enter. You’re really benefiting from Mr. Zhou’s influence!”

Huo Sining just smiled at these words and did not explain.

Others might not know, but she was well aware of the reason Elder Zhou had for sending her there. However, she couldn’t tell Su Qingqing outright, so she just focused on packing her luggage.

Due to the rush, Huo Sining randomly shredded two sets of clothes to change into, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and headed out.

She didn’t expect that just as she walked into the courtyard, the sound of an engine rang out; the car that came to pick her up was already waiting outside the Huang Family’s house.

Huo Sining handed Heitan over to Su Qingqing, then hurriedly shouldered her backpack and walked out.

It was only after getting into the car that Huo Sining realized the driver wasn’t Ji Kun, but a man she didn’t recognize.

Perhaps sensing Huo Sining’s confusion, Ji Kun introduced her to the man, ”This is Captain Wu, in charge of liaising with the experts this time.”

”Hello, Captain Wu,” Huo Sining greeted him with a smile.

But Captain Wu was taken aback.

He was the police captain handling the expert liaison for this case. Due to an incident in Taicheng, he had been assigned to visit the Imperial Capital. Originally, he had hoped to invite Elder Master Zhou Shitao to preside over the situation in Taicheng in person, but Master Zhou was unwell and couldn’t leave the Imperial Capital. After some consideration, the elder agreed to send two of his disciples instead.

Upon hearing that Elder Zhou Shitao was sending two disciples, Captain Wu immediately coordinated with his superiors, and the Taicheng side eagerly agreed.

Following orders, Captain Wu picked up Ji Kun and then went to the Huang Family to pick up Huo Sining.

Having heard that each of Master Zhou’s disciples was an elite, Captain Wu subconsciously assumed they would all be aged professors, considering Master Zhou himself was a man in his seventies, his disciples must be in their fifties at least.

But what surprised Captain Wu was that the first person he picked up, Ji Kun, was only in his forties. Wu found it somewhat unreliable to think of such a young man as an expert.

However, Wu felt reassured remembering there was another disciple to pick up. He thought Master Zhou must have had his reasons; if Ji Kun was so young, it must have been a deliberate choice, and the next one must surely be Master Zhou’s senior disciple.

Captain Wu was very much looking forward to it.

But when he arrived at the Huang Family and saw a young girl with a backpack bouncing out of the grand Huang residence,

at first Captain Wu didn’t take much notice, not connecting the young girl with Elder Master Zhou Shitao’s disciple at all.

Unexpectedly, the girl looked around, then walked straight towards his car and calmly opened the door and slid inside.

It wasn’t until Ji Kun made the introduction and Huo Sining greeted him that Captain Wu snapped back to reality. He looked at Huo Sining incredulously and stared for several seconds before asking dryly,

”Professor Ji, this... this young girl is the other disciple Master Zhou mentioned?”

Ji Kun nodded, ”Huo Sining, my master’s closed-door disciple.”

Captain Wu’s mouth gaped open enough to fit an egg.

This just wasn’t right. Was Master Zhou playing a joke on him? A forty-year-old young professor and a teenage girl, these were Master Zhou’s proud disciples he talked about? Where were the seasoned experts?

Captain Wu glanced at Huo Sining with a strange look in his eyes. The girl appeared to be only eighteen or nineteen years old, about the same age as his daughter. To call her Master Zhou’s granddaughter would be more like it, but his disciple? That was just preposterous!

”Is there a problem?” Seeing Captain Wu staring at her, Huo Sining couldn’t help but ask.

Captain Wu hastily waved his hand, ”No, no, I’m just a little surprised. To be a high-level disciple of Master Zhou at such a young age, you are indeed promising, young lady!”

”If there’s no problem, then let’s drive,” Ji Kun said indifferently.

Although Captain Wu spoke praises, his eyes kept stealthily glancing at Huo Sining through the rearview mirror, a tinge of doubt and dissatisfaction flickering within them.

Did Master Zhou really understand the gravity of this situation?

It was one thing for Professor Ji; after all, he was a professor and an expert from the Forbidden City, so he must have skills, but what about Huo Sining?

At such a young age, how could she be of any help? Wasn’t treating the national relics as a joke?

A seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl might not be prudent enough in her actions; if she made a blunder due to clumsiness, who would bear the responsibility?

Perhaps guessing Captain Wu’s doubts and concerns, Ji Kun reassured him with a smile, ”Not to boast, but Captain Wu, you shouldn’t underestimate my little junior sister. Though she’s young, her appraisal skills are no less than those of ordinary experts.”

Isn’t that boasting? Isn’t this arrogance? A girl of eighteen or nineteen, how could she compete with seasoned experts?

Captain Wu gave a sidelong glance at Huo Sining in the back seat; he said nothing aloud, but internally he disagreed.
