Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 461: Chapter 457: Beware of Greed in Antiques

”What, I’m not going!”

An Yueru’s fury ignited instantly upon hearing this, flames of rage seeming to blaze from her eyes. To return the items and apologize to that woman? Why should she?

”Why should you? Do you have any idea who that woman is?”

An Zhonghai’s voice carried over faintly, ”The Huang Family has taken her in to recognize her ancestors, she’s been acknowledged by the Gu Family as their future daughter-in-law, Zhou Shitao has taken her as his Closed-door Disciple, and most importantly, she’s Chief Lu’s honorary granddaughter!”

”Do you think the person you’ve provoked is just an ordinary character? If you don’t go, you’ll offend all four families at once, and someone will start taking it out on your father! I’ve been in this position for four or five years, and I never expected it to be ruined because of you!” An Zhonghai’s mouth curved into a bitter smile.

An Yueru looked at the Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl in her hands in disbelief, unwilling to accept it,

”How is that possible? That woman has been exposed online, just an ordinary orphan girl from the countryside with deceased parents, no power or influence, attending college in S City, and only earning a little money. How could she possibly be Chief Lu’s honorary granddaughter?!”

An orphan girl from the countryside with no power or influence? An Zhonghai felt a profound sense of helplessness welling up from the depths of his heart, unable to find any words to describe his current emotions.

”Your mother attended the Huang Family’s ancestral recognition banquet earlier this year. If you don’t believe me, you can ask her. It was at that banquet where Huo Sining was accepted as a disciple by Zhou Shitao and recognized by Chief Lu as his honorary family member. This woman is definitely not as simple as you think!”

”Dad, what should we do?”

Fear and horror emerged in An Yueru’s eyes, her voice turning somewhat hoarse.

She didn’t understand why things had come to this, but she knew that when it came to wielding power, the tactic she used could also be employed against her.

When the tree falls, the monkeys scatter; when the wall collapses, everyone pushes. If An Zhonghai lost his position, then the An family would be doomed forever.

”Apologize to her! After that, see how she wants to deal with it.”

An Zhonghai knew deep down that the issue was too significant, and a mere apology would be weak and ineffective.

Even if Huo Sining let it go, it didn’t mean that those eager to curry favor wouldn’t take the opportunity to please the Huang, Gu, Zhou, and Lu Families by targeting the An Family. The matter was unlikely to be resolved so easily.

While the An family father and daughter were struggling, Huang Hanyun had already rushed to the Qianmen Street Police Station.

Although she had said there was no need for her to intervene, Huang Hanyun was still somewhat anxious. After handing over her work, she hurried to Dashilar, but what she didn’t expect was that Gu Xu had actually summoned Chief Lu.

Zhang Shuang now understood the meaning behind Huang Hanyun’s words on the phone. She had initially thought that Huo Sining was just associated with the Huang Family, but she had no idea that Huo Sining’s status was so complicated.

But indeed, as Huang Hanyun said, this matter wasn’t something she needed to worry about—there were plenty of people to handle it.

Soon after, An Zhonghai, along with An Yueru, hurried to the police station. Seeing Chief Lu seated in the office, An Zhonghai’s mind buzzed, going blank in an instant.

An Yueru was even more terrified, her face drained of color, completely dumbstruck.

If An Yueru had any ulterior motives or little schemes previously, upon seeing Chief Lu, she promptly hid them all away. She wouldn’t dare to play any tricks in front of this man, even with nine lives at her disposal.

Therefore, she sincerely apologized to Huo Sining:

”Huo Sining, I’m sorry, I only wanted to please the professor with this set of enamel, so I went against my conscience and took your things. Please give me another chance, I truly won’t dare to do it again!”

Huo Sining certainly didn’t believe An Yueru’s words, she had gone to such great lengths to snatch this set of enamel away, could it really be that it was just to give it to Ma Liwen?

Giving an antique worth tens of millions to her teacher for free, Huo Sining would never believe An Yueru would do such a foolish thing.

Pleasing the professor was nothing more than an excuse An Yueru had conjured, at the very least to mask the greed in her heart for the enamel.

”Miss Huo, this is indeed my daughter’s fault. I failed to raise her properly, leading her to do such a thing. I cannot shirk my responsibility. I hope Miss Song can give her one more chance to reform. She’s young and ignorant. After this incident, she surely won’t make the same mistake again!”

An Zhonghai also apologized to Huo Sining by her side.

Huo Sining looked at An Zhonghai with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile: ”Director An, not every mistake can be excused by youth and ignorance. Miss An has come of age, hasn’t she? If she’s an adult, she has the ability to control her own behavior and must take responsibility for her mistakes. If apologizing could resolve every wrongdoing, what would we need the police for?”

An Zhonghai was left speechless by Huo Sining’s words, his face alternating between shades of green and white.

Huo Sining had experienced a similar scene in the Luwan District of S City before, and now she was witnessing the officials’ arrogance and disdain once more, which left her feeling disgusted.

Had she not been the foster granddaughter of Chief Lu, had she not had the backing of the Gu Family, these people would not have cared about her situation at all. If she had been someone without power, status, or wealth, she would have had to swallow her losses silently, and it’s very possible that her loss would have been more than just a set of enamel, she might even have been saddled with the crime of illegal trading and hoarding of cultural relics.

”Miss An Yueru, since you’re involved in the antiques circle, you should know that the one thing most frowned upon in this business is ’greed.’ If you want to go further in the antique world, don’t let greed blind your eyes!”

”Handle this matter as it should be handled! I have no requests. I just hope that you do not wrongfully accuse any good people or let any bad ones get away!”

Huo Sining didn’t want to waste any more words with these people. In the Luwan District of S City, she had easily sidestepped Huo Biao and his men, as they were small fry who posed no real threat to her.

However, An Yueru and An Zhonghai were different; if she chose to keep the peace, they would likely think she was easy to bully.

Huo Sining opted for a fair and official handling of the matter. This wouldn’t give anyone grounds for fault-finding and wouldn’t compromise the reputations of the Lu and Gu families, nor did she need to worry about anyone protecting the wrongdoers. With Chief Lu stepping in, they wouldn’t dare to go against the wind even if they had the guts.

”Grandfather Lu, let’s go.” Huo Sining picked up the Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl that was on the table, nodded at Chief Lu and the others standing in the room, and walked out without a word.

Guo Dongliang looked at An Zhonghai with difficulty—when Chief Lu had stepped in, although he smiled, his eyes were cold, the implications clear without words.

An Zhonghai collapsed onto a chair, offering a bitter smile at Guo Dongliang, his eyes emitting a deep sense of powerlessness.

Having no demands was the greatest demand of all, meaning there was no easy end to this affair.
