Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 459: Chapter 455: Where is the Thing?

Chief Lu’s words were a deafening clap of thunder that completely stunned the few people in the room.

The uninformed ones had all thought that Chief Lu had come to educate the child, but only Huo Sining and Gu Xu knew that Chief Lu was actually coming to her defense, fearing that she had been wronged and had thus made a special trip to support her.

Huo Sining’s eyes reddened, and a sour feeling welled up in her heart.

On the other hand, Chief Tian felt a tremor in his heart, knowing that the situation was beyond salvaging. No matter how tough he acted, it would be futile. No matter how capable he was, it was impossible to distort the truth, especially since the person in question was the granddaughter of a chief. Even if he had the gall, he wouldn’t dare to frame her.

Huo Sining recounted in detail what had happened at Dashilar, and the more Chief Lu listened, the more furrowed his brows became.

”When I arrived at the police station, Chief Tian confiscated the set of Famille Rose Porcelain Bowls I bought today on Antique Street.”

”Chief Tian said they were stolen goods and that they were national relics unearthed recently. However, according to my appraisal, out of the seven bowls in the set, five are modern imitations, and only two are authentic. As for the claim that they were just unearthed, that’s even more preposterous.”

”Chief Tian may not be aware, but those two authentic pieces of Famille Rose are peak masterpieces from the Kangxi-Qianlong Period and are worth about ten million on the market.”

Huo Sining spoke calmly, as if it wasn’t ten million but merely one thousand.

Ten million!

Guo Dongliang was immediately enraged, thinking at the outset that if Huo Sining had indeed done something wrong, Chief Lu would surely handle it impartially, and the matter wouldn’t involve him.

But what he hadn’t expected was that this incident was a direct frame-up by Tian Weiguo in collusion with the second Miss of the An family, using extremely despicable means.

Most importantly, of all people Tian Weiguo could offend, he had to offend such a Great Luo Immortal and even confiscated her precious belongings—ten million! This matter, falling on anyone, would likely not end well, would it?

”Chief Tian, what are you standing around for? Hurry up and return that set of Famille Rose Porcelain Bowls to Miss Huo!”

Guo Dongliang really wanted to kick Tian Weiguo, but with Chief Lu and Gu Xu present, he did not dare to be so overt in assaulting someone. Thus, he could only shout at Chief Tian viciously.

Chief Tian felt bitter in his heart. Where would he have known that the porcelain bowls were worth so much? He had originally thought it was just a matter of tens of thousands of yuan. Seeing An Yueru look extremely keen on them, he decided to please An Yueru by letting her take the set of bowls with her. Now, where was he supposed to procure a set of Famille Rose Porcelain like that?

Seeing Tian Weiguo remain unresponsive, Guo Dongliang sensed something was amiss and quickly demanded, ”Tian Weiguo, where are the items?”

Tian Weiguo said with a mournful expression, ”Director Guo, the items aren’t with me. They were taken away by Miss An of the An family!”

Chief Lu paused for a moment and asked, ”Which Miss An of the An family?”

Tian Weiguo’s face turned pale with fright, and he lowered his head, not daring to look at Chief Lu. He could only reply cautiously, ”The daughter of Director An Zhonghai.”

Chief Lu froze momentarily in the act of drinking tea. He knew that the issue wasn’t simple. How could Tian Weiguo dare to commit such a blatant mistake in principle if he wasn’t backed by some powerful figure?

He remembered An Zhonghai, but he wasn’t very familiar with his daughter. However, one can often judge whether a person is good or bad by the quality of the children they raise. With this thought, Chief Lu’s heart sank, and his initially good impression of An Zhonghai was greatly diminished because of today’s incident.

”What is this nonsense? Even if that Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl is stolen property, you have no reason to give it to someone unrelated, do you? Even if Miss An is the precious daughter of Director An, she doesn’t have the right to take charge of the stolen goods, does she? You’d better call that girl from the An family right away and tell her to send the stuff back!”

Guo Dongliang looked at Tian Weiguo with a look of disappointment in his eyes, as if to say, ’I can’t believe you’re failing me.’ Yet, did he really not understand Tian Weiguo’s thoughts and plans? No, he was well aware of the reasons behind Tian Weiguo’s actions; people are like that, the longer they stay in a position, the more they yearn to climb higher.

It was just that Tian Weiguo had failed to read the situation correctly; he thought that by helping Miss An he could climb the ladder, but instead, he had offended another party with even more clout.

If Huo Sining had been a powerless, ordinary citizen, Guo Dongliang would have turned a blind eye and let it slide.

But now that even Chief Lu had intervened, if this matter wasn’t handled well, it was not just the position of Chief Tian at stake, but his own position as Director might be in jeopardy as well.

Given that his official cap was at risk, it was impossible for him to keep playing dumb; therefore, it would be wise to distance himself from Tian Weiguo as soon as possible.

Huo Sining was obviously aware of Guo Dongliang’s train of thought, but she chose not to expose it, waiting calmly for Guo Dongliang to give her an explanation.

She didn’t want to make a big fuss, but at the same time, that set of porcelain bowls absolutely could not end up in someone else’s hands.

Tian Weiguo nervously took out his phone to call An Yueru, but after three or four attempts, no one answered.

Tian Weiguo was burning with anxiety. Seeing him flustered like a headless fly, Guo Dongliang, at a loss for options, found Director An’s phone number and called him.

After several rings, a deep and sonorous voice came from the other end: ”Is that you, Xiao Guo? What’s brought you to call me?”

”Director An,” Guo Dongliang glanced at Chief Lu and two others leisurely sipping tea in the room, unsure of how to broach the subject.

”Xiao Guo, what’s the matter?” Seeing that Guo Dongliang was hemming and hawing without speaking, An Zhonghai sensed something was amiss.

”Director An, it’s like this, today at Dashilar, Miss An Yueru had Chief Tian arrest Minister Gu’s daughter-in-law, and I am currently dealing with the matter at the Qianmen Street Police Station.”

”We can’t get in touch with Miss An, so I had to call you. Could you possibly bring Miss An over and at the same time, have her return the Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl she took?”

An Zhonghai had thought that Guo Dongliang was reaching out to him to smooth over relations, but when he heard this, he was completely dumbfounded.

His daughter arrested Minister Gu’s daughter-in-law? An Zhonghai felt the veins in his forehead throb with a particularly painful headache.

”What’s the situation with that Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl? Explain it to me clearly!” An Zhonghai demanded.

Guo Dongliang had no choice but to relate the entire story, from beginning to end, including the value of the set of Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl taken by An Yueru. An Zhonghai fell silent on the other end of the line, causing Guo Dongliang to grow increasingly uneasy.

After hearing Guo Dongliang’s account, An Zhonghai’s heart sank, and his complexion turned ashen.

He knew his own treasured daughter well enough: she was wild and arrogant, with a strong sense of pride, and perfectly capable of doing such a thing.

However, his concern at the moment was not with her behavior, but with the realization that the woman who had been arrested was indeed the daughter-in-law of the Gu family.
