Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 248: Chapter 245: The Prize Chapter 248: Chapter 245: The Prize Hundreds of pounds of seafood were hauled up from the water, and one live fish after another was thrown into metal buckets. Upon witnessing this scene, everyone felt tremendously surprised and delighted.

Of course, Gu Xu and his group hadn’t forgotten their true purpose for this trip: sea fishing.

Gu Xu didn’t understand fishing, but he had done his homework for this outing. There was a dazzling array of sea fishing gear, and after consulting several fishing experts, he finally chose the suitable equipment.

From drum-shaped reels to synthetic fishing lines to floats, everything had been carefully selected after much consideration.

Zheng Huaqing had been worried that Gu Xu and his friends lacked fishing gear and was prepared to take them to the cabin to pick out suitable equipment, but upon seeing the sets of tools Gu Xu brought out, he was taken aback.

“Mr. Gu, it seems you are quite the aficionado. This equipment of yours couldn’t have cost less than a hundred thousand, right?”

Zheng Huaqing was a fishing expert, and seeing Gu Xu’s fishing gear, his interest was immediately piqued.

“How about I challenge Mr. Gu to a contest later?”

Fishing enthusiasts usually enjoyed competing against others, especially fellow experts, as they were always full of fighting spirit.

But Gu Xu knew his own limitations. Hearing Zheng Huaqing’s words, he felt somewhat uneasy and a hint of unnaturalness crept onto his face as his eyes subconsciously glanced towards Huo Sining.

He definitely couldn’t let others see through his complete lack of fishing skills, otherwise, he’d be utterly embarrassed.

Huo Sining also didn’t know how to fish. Seeing Gu Xu pull out so many professional tools, she too was surprised but felt a secret admiration, thinking to herself that it was unexpected for someone as aloof as Gu Xu to have such a skill.

“Sure thing, Xu Zi, when did you learn to sea fish? I had no clue,” Ouyang Jun said, patting Gu Xu on the shoulder in confusion, not realizing Gu Xu was trying to put on a false front.

Song Hui, with no intention of sparing Gu Xu’s dignity, bluntly exposed him without looking for any hints: “Just pretend to enjoy it is enough, Xu Zi is with me every day, either at work or on the way to work; when does he have the time for this? If he knew how to fish, it would mean that the sun had risen from the west. Someone else helped him choose all this stuff!”

Upon hearing this, Su Qingqing couldn’t help but laugh out loud, and the others also burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Huo Sining also smiled, her eyes betraying her efforts to hold back her amusement when looking at Gu Xu.

Gu Xu, who was always stoic-faced, couldn’t help but reveal a trace of embarrassment.

Zheng Huaqing, however, didn’t seem to mind much and waved his hand: “No need to be so uptight when we’re out for fun. Sea fishing is actually quite simple, and as long as you understand how to use the tools, it will be easy. I’ll teach you…”

While saying this, Zheng Huaqing took a set of fishing rods from Gu Xu’s hands, assembled them, and explained the process. Once the fishing line was cast, everyone became eager to try it themselves.

Off to the side, Ouyang Jun glanced at a certain CEO who was comically struggling to woo his would-be wife and had a stroke of inspiration. His eyes darted around, and a plan quickly formed in his mind.

“Just fishing is so dull. How about this – we split into teams for a competition? Each of us can put up a small item as a bet, and whoever catches the most fish will win the pot. How does that sound?”

Ouyang Jun’s suggestion was immediately seconded by the others. Su Qingqing’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm: “That’s a great idea, but are there any requirements for the prizes? And how will the teams be divided?”

“It’s just a game, so the prizes can be anything, they don’t have to be very valuable—just something casual. As for the teams…”

Ouyang Jun smiled without giving anything away, stealing a glance at Gu Xu, “Director Zheng is a master, we definitely can’t beat him, so we might as well act as referees. The eight of us left can split into four groups; let’s decide by drawing lots.”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Huaqing immediately burst into laughter, “Alright, I’ll be your referee, and I promise to be fair and impartial!”

Gu Xu detected something peculiar in Ouyang Jun’s gaze, and with a flicker in his eyes, he instantly understood what Ouyang Jun intended to do. He couldn’t help but give Ouyang Jun a smile that was not quite a smile, without any objection.

Soon Ouyang Jun had prepared the cards for the drawing of lots. No one knew what kind of trick he had pulled on the cards, but after everyone had drawn, Gu Xu and Huo Sining unexpectedly ended up in the same group.

Huo Sining gave Gu Xu a look but didn’t think too much about it.

Gu Xu whispered to Huo Sining, “Just use something cheap for the wager later.”

“Why?” Huo Sining didn’t understand.

“I’m not very good at fishing, I might lose.”

Gu Xu didn’t want to admit his own shortcomings, but it was better to be upfront with Huo Sining rather than losing face later.

Huo Sining listened and felt a mix of amusement and chagrin.

Gu Xu wanted to say more, but by then Ouyang Jun had already started calling everyone to present their wagers.

Ouyang Jun took the lead by pulling out an ancient jade piece he had been twirling in his pocket for quite some time. Naturally, Song Hui and Qin Tian didn’t want to be outshone, one produced a purple sandalwood bracelet, and the other a jade Guanyin with gold settings.

Su Jinyuan was considerably more straightforward; not having much on him to offer, he went back to the cabin and brought out a gold pen that he always used.

Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan, on the other hand, had it easy; each of them took out a pair of jadeite earrings, which were gifted to them by Huo Sining—made from the very Chicken Oil Yellow offcuts from the first piece of jade roughs that Huo Sining had gambled up in Pingzhou not long ago.

That Chicken Oil Yellow piece was sold by Huo Sining to Su Jinyuan for two million, and at that time, Huo Sining also made a request for one Yellow Bright Jade Bracelet to be kept for her.

Donghua Company was quick, and in less than a month, the Yellow Bright Jade Bracelets were delivered into Huo Sining’s hands, along with two pairs of earrings in different styles made from the same type of Jade.

Huo Sining didn’t have pierced ears and naturally could not wear the earrings. Without hesitation, she gifted the two pairs of earrings to Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan respectively.

Huo Sining didn’t expect them to actually put forward the two pairs of earrings as their wagers, leaving her somewhere between irritated and amused.

Gu Xu took off his Patek Philippe watch and tossed it onto the table.

Huo Sining, however, hesitated. She was indeed wearing a jadeite bracelet, but it was one she had taken out of the ebony box.

Although this Mutton-fat Jade Bracelet wasn’t excessively expensive, it was still worth over a million—to simply use it as a wager was something she was quite reluctant to do.

Besides, this bracelet and the silk fabric hidden at the bottom of the box were salvaged together, and the Bagua Chart on that silk had not yet been deciphered. Huo Sining always felt that the Bagua Chart might be concealing something significant, unsure whether there was any connection between the bracelet and the silk. Therefore, it was out of the question for her to use the bracelet as a wager.

With these thoughts, Huo Sining frowned slightly and glanced at Su Jinyuan, before suddenly saying with a smile,

“I didn’t prepare in advance, so I can’t come up with anything good right now. How about this, if I lose, a 20-centimeter wild freshwater pearl, a chunk of Small Colorless Glass-Type Jade Rough the size of a fist, and a pair of purebred German Red Pine Guppies—pick any of these three items you like.”
