Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 206: Chapter 203: The Swindler’s Weakness Chapter 206: Chapter 203: The Swindler’s Weakness Gu Xu glanced at Huo Sining secretly when he heard the words and then began to speak, “I’m here on a business trip to S City and just dropped by Antique Street for a visit. I didn’t expect to bump into you guys here.”

Boss Gu, isn’t it obvious that you’re trying to hide something with such a lame excuse? Visiting S City on a business trip, what kind of big deal would require the Shengtang Big Boss himself to take action? In just a few months, you’ve made several trips to S City already, and now you’re strolling around Antique Street. Are you kidding me?

Sure enough, as soon as Gu Xu finished speaking, Su Qingqing looked at him suspiciously, but since Gu Xu always had an icy demeanor, Su Qingqing was a bit intimidated by him and didn’t dare to say more.

In fact, Gu Xu had been kicked out by Grandpa Gu two days ago, and in order to complete the task his grandfather assigned within three months, he had to leave the company matters to Song Hui and secretly slip back to S City alone.

As a Falcon ace, Gu Xu scored full marks on the course of tracking enemies. For him, following someone without being noticed was a breeze.

Hence, as soon as he arrived in S City, he started to stealthily follow Huo Sining, and had been tailing the young lady for two days straight.

Although this might sound somewhat creepy, Gu Xu found some perverse pleasure in the task and would not have revealed his presence if things hadn’t taken an unexpected turn just now.

Of course, another important reason was that after following Huo Sining for two days, Gu Xu realized that his tracking strategy—though it sounded high-class and was indeed very effective in his previous missions—was actually pretty useless when it came to following his wife.

Thus, after reflecting on his behavior, he decided to abandon the tracking and go for a direct confrontation instead.

Gu Xu returned the Guanyin sculpture to Liao Song, but Lu Huairu’s face turned cold. He glanced at Gu Xu indifferently, then said to Yin Zeyan, “Zeyan, there are too many unrelated people in the shop. Please help me show these guests out. No need to keep the two of you here for tea.”

Obviously, this was an eviction. Lu Huairu didn’t care about Xu Deqing’s displeased look and petulantly swept into the inner hall, clearly very angry about Liao Song’s earlier tantrum involving the Guanyin sculpture.

Huo Sining was not familiar with Lu Huai, but Yin Zeyan knew this person’s temper. Seeing the unfinished chess game on the table, a flash of helplessness and understanding crossed his eyes, and with a bit of embarrassment, he turned to Xu Deqing and Liao Song:

“Grandpa Xu, I’m afraid it wasn’t a good time for you two to come today. The old master was upset about his chess game being interrupted, and just now this brother caused some more commotion. He probably isn’t too happy inside. Please don’t take it to heart.”

As an elder who knew Lu Huai’s temper, Xu Deqing was aware that Lu Huai always did what he wanted and never lived to please others.

However, he was of a certain age, and having his face slighted in front of so many juniors by Lu Huai, his expression naturally turned sour. Yin Zeyan offering him a way out eased his feelings somewhat, and he waved his hand and said:

“Never mind, Zeyan, you don’t have to make excuses for that old man. I know all about his foul temper – it comes quickly and fades quickly. I’ll come back another day to play a few games of chess with him! Liao Song, let’s go!”

Since the host was clearly indicating they should leave, Xu Deqing naturally couldn’t just stick around and not depart. He got up with a reluctant Liao Song and was about to leave.

Liao Song had no choice but to carry the Guanyin porcelain sculpture and follow behind Xu Deqing, but after only a few steps, he suddenly heard a clear female voice from behind:

“Mr. Liao, don’t you want to get back the money you were swindled out of?”

Liao Song turned his head sharply and saw the young girl who had previously pointed out the flaw in the Guanyin, looking at him with bright and clear eyes.

Liao Song’s heart stirred, carrying three parts hope and seven parts skepticism, “Little girl, could you possibly have a solution?”

Before Huo Sining could speak, Xu Deqing on the side shook his head first:

“This guy clearly used a fake Guanyin to scam money and has probably vanished by now. Even if we call the police to settle accounts with him, we won’t be able to catch him. His name might even be fake. What kind of solution could there be? I think this time you’ll just have to grin and bear the loss, acknowledge the bad luck, and be more cautious next time to avoid being foolishly deceived!”

Nevertheless, Huo Sining shook her head, stepped forward to pick up the Guanyin statue in Liao Song’s hand, and gently tapped it a few times, saying, “That doesn’t necessarily mean there is no solution.”

Fifty thousand in savings is not a small amount, and Liao Song was now driven to desperation. No matter the method, he wanted to try it, so upon hearing what Huo Sining said, he quickly urged, “What method, tell me quickly!”

“Mr. Liao, first listen to my analysis, and if I say anything wrong, you can correct me.”

Huo Sining pointed to the Guanyin’s fine glaze, slowly unraveling the mystery.

“After that scammer got to know you, he kept discussing porcelain sculpture collecting with you. Then, when he came to borrow money, he used this Guanyin porcelain sculpture as collateral, promising he’d be able to return the borrowed fifty thousand very soon.”

“Although you only had a verbal agreement, according to the standard agreement of collateral, if the other party can’t pay the money back on time, this sculpture would belong to you, Mr. Liao, am I right?”

Liao Song didn’t know what main point Huo Sining wanted to emphasize and didn’t want to interrupt her, so he could only nod, “Yes.”

Huo Sining continued, “So, here comes the key to the problem. If that person shows up voluntarily, then I can find a way to make him cough up the money he swindled!”

“Hmph, it’s easy for you to say with just a flick of your lips,” said Xu Deqing.

Hearing Huo Sining’s hypothesis, Xu Deqing just laughed, disbelief flashing in his eyes, and he outright rejected Huo Sining’s statement:

“He’s a scammer, not a fool. Since he has already swindled the money, how could he possibly show up on his own for you to catch him red-handed? This assumption itself is not valid!”

Liao Song also nodded along, having thought that Huo Sining might offer some insightful advice or practical suggestion. However, after all said and done, the crux of the problem still lay in how to make the scammer voluntarily show up, which seemed impossible, didn’t it?

At first, there was a glimmer of hope in Liao Song’s eyes when looking at Huo Sining, but now it was filled with sheer disappointment.

Instead, Gu Xu, standing on the side, watched Huo Sining with great interest. He knew Huo Sining was very clever, so upon hearing her analysis, he subconsciously felt there was more to come.

Indeed, after hearing Xu Deqing’s words, Huo Sining slightly shook her head, and raising her gaze steadily met the eyes of Xu and Liao:

“Why can’t it be valid? If he is swindling people for money, then he must have a weakness. As a scammer, what is the one weakness he can never escape?”
