Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 216: Chapter 213: Teammate Like a Pig Chapter 216: Chapter 213: Teammate Like a Pig Huo Sining’s attention was still focused on those booths in the clubhouse hall. Each booth was about one and a half meters wide, and at the top of each booth hung a conspicuous yellow sign, with the corresponding registrant’s registration number and the species of fish they were entering printed on it in black font.

Huo Sining’s large tank was quite sizable, so it attracted everyone’s attention as soon as it was carried into the exhibition hall. As soon as Huo Sining placed the porcelain tank on her booth, a crowd quickly gathered around.

“This is a premium Kohaku! Look at the vibrant colors and clear patterns; this is a genuine Kohaku Koi!”

“Look at the single row of scales on this koi. These two koi must be less than a year old, right? To have such color and size at this age, the owner must be an expert!”

“So beautiful, I wonder how many people will be vying for them. These two koi surely count as a favorite for this year’s Fish King!”

“…”

Hearing the murmurs of the people around her, Huo Sining kept a smile on her face, but she also felt a hint of pride.

Seeing the reactions of the people, she knew that her fish were highly sought after and it seemed she had a great chance of winning the title of this year’s Fish King. A determined gleam flashed in Huo Sining’s eyes.

At nine o’clock in the morning, the convention officially opened with the president of the Ornamental Fish Association delivering a speech of blessing. Huo Sining asked Wu Jun to watch the booth, while she walked around to observe the other competitors’ entries.

She planned to appreciate the other contestants’ work one by one, to make an approximate judgment of the level of her own koi.

Unexpectedly, she had not walked far when she encountered Ouyang Jun and Gu Xu.

“Miss Huo!” Seeing Huo Sining, Ouyang Jun greeted her eagerly as he hurried over.

However, Huo Sining’s gaze drifted to Gu Xu standing on the other side. He was dressed in a silver-grey suit today, with a pale red shirt inside, hands in his pockets—it was clear he was the type who looked lean in clothes but was muscular underneath. Paired with his determined, chiseled face and deep, serene eyes, he was surprisingly easy on the eyes.

Huo Sining’s smile was stiff, but she scolded inwardly, thinking: When is this showy guy going back to the Imperial Capital? Dressing so strikingly, who is he planning to hook up with?

Huo Sining was distracted when Ouyang Jun began to speak with a smile, “Miss Huo, I was planning to visit your store to find you, but I didn’t expect to bump into you here so coincidentally.”

Huo Sining came back to her senses and asked with curiosity, “Mr. Ouyang, what do you need me for?”

Ouyang Jun stole a glance at Gu Xu and pulled Huo Sining aside, asking mysteriously, “I wanted to ask you about someone, the beautiful Miss Bai who was with you last time in Pingzhou—what’s her family situation like? Can you tell me?”

Huo Sining was taken aback, then realized what he was implying, and looked at Ouyang Jun with a suggestive gaze, “Are you investigating someone? What, are you interested in her?”

Ouyang Jun chuckled nervously and glanced at Gu Xu, who was standing several steps away. He then lowered his head and voice, saying:

“You must keep this a secret, okay? I’m asking for my childhood friend. Although he hasn’t said anything, I can tell he’s probably been interested in your friend since the time in Pingzhou. Look, he hasn’t been back in the Imperial Capital for a few days and he’s already here in S City. He’s too shy to ask himself, so I took the initiative to come and ask you—is your friend single? What’s her family like?”

“You mean the childhood friend you’re talking about is… Mr. Gu?” Huo Sining’s eyes widened as she discreetly pointed at Gu Xu standing nearby.

Ouyang Jun noticed the shock in Huo Sining’s eyes, quickly pushed her hand down, and nodded in explanation:

“Yes, it’s him. My childhood friend has been single for six or seven years now, and I’ve never seen him interested in any woman all these years. He’s almost thirty, and we’re all quite worried about his situation. Now that he’s finally seen the light, I don’t want him to miss out again. As long as the girl comes from a decent family and is single, I will help my buddy by playing matchmaker, and make sure to bring the two of them together!”

Huo Sining’s facial expression became somewhat unnatural as she forced a smile, then dropped her gaze and hesitated:

“Sister Yishan’s family status should be okay, and she is indeed single. It’s just that she…” seems to like my cousin Su Jinyuan.

“As long as she’s single, that’s enough!”

As soon as Ouyang Jun heard what Huo Sining said, he immediately felt relieved, cutting her off without even listening to the rest of her words, and said with a smile:

“My brother is shy and doesn’t really know how to handle relationships. I see that you, Miss Huo, have a pretty good relationship with Miss Bai. Could you please say a few good words for my brother, and help him out? Once the two of them are together, they definitely won’t forget your role as the matchmaker!”

Huo Sining felt a mixture of complex and incomprehensible emotions, and did not dare let Ouyang Jun see the disappointment in her heart, only nodding awkwardly with a smile.

Ouyang Jun thought that Huo Sining was just young and a bit shy about the topic and didn’t think too much of it, and patted her on the shoulder seriously, “Then I’ll be counting on you, Miss Huo!”

Huo Sining’s mind was a complete mess, and a depressing, negative emotion spread, making her feel unwell all over.

Even though she knew that she would not have much to do with Gu Xu in the future, hearing Ouyang Jun say that Gu Xu was interested in Bai Yishan still made her feel uncomfortable.

Moreover, Ouyang Jun wanted her to help matchmake the two, leaving Huo Sining feeling extremely conflicted.

Unable to resolve the chaos, she decided to bundle it all up and throw it away. Let go of past grudges and secret affections, just forget them all.

Anyway, she definitely had no chance with Gu Xu; he had not even looked at her. Instead of holding onto these unrealistic fantasies, she might as well focus on something more practical.

With this thought, Huo Sining firmed up her decision, took a deep breath, adjusted her emotions, and tossed all those messy thoughts to the back of her mind.

Gu Xu naturally did not miss Ouyang Jun’s little actions. He saw Ouyang Jun speaking cautiously with Huo Sining and felt some suspicion. When Ouyang Jun approached later, he asked curiously, “What did you need her for?”

Ouyang Jun gave a sheepish smile, his eyes flickering, “Nothing much, just that she fixed the feng shui fish in my office last time. I’m worried those fish might have other issues, so I thought about asking her to check on them again after a while.”

Gu Xu slightly raised his eyes, knowing that his childhood friend definitely wasn’t telling the whole truth. However, he didn’t press further, and when he looked over at Huo Sining, a subtle soft smile appeared on his face.

Poor Falcon Squadron Captain, preoccupied with chasing his wife, he had neglected to guard against his own childhood friend. He didn’t realize that there’s a saying in this world, “Fear not a god-like opponent, but fear a pig-like teammate.” With a godlike ability to wildly speculate coupled with a detective’s spirit, his childhood friend held him back. As for the path to winning his wife, it seemed the search was never-ending.
