Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 214: Chapter 211 Spit Out What You Ate of Mine Chapter 214: Chapter 211 Spit Out What You Ate of Mine Liu Weijie’s words implied that he had suffered a great loss, and Xu Deqing, sitting aside, couldn’t help but let out a silent scoff.

Liao Song pondered for a moment, then nodded and heaved a sigh.

Liu Weijie thought Liao Song’s nod meant that he had decided to buy the porcelain sculpture. He was overjoyed and reached out eagerly to take back the check for five hundred thousand.

But before his hand could touch the check, Liao Song stepped back swiftly, avoiding him.

Liu Weijie’s face stiffened, and he looked at Liao Song in confusion, “Brother Liao, what are you doing—”

“You’re right, in our circle, reputation and credibility are more important than anything else.”

Liao Song couldn’t keep up the act any longer; feeling that the time was ripe, he directly interrupted Liu Weijie, stuffed the check into his pocket, and with a somewhat sarcastic smile, said to Liu Weijie,

“Since you’ve already promised the other party, it wouldn’t be good to break the contract, would it? If I really bought your porcelain sculpture, wouldn’t I be taking what others desire and forcing the reluctant? Since that’s the case, I don’t wish to make it difficult for you, and will leave that Guanyin porcelain sculpture for your friend!”

“Huh?” The rapid change from Liao Song baffled Liu Weijie, who stood there stunned, completely failing to grasp the implications of Liao Song’s words.

Liao Song didn’t bother to explain further and turned to enter the bedroom. Soon after, he emerged with a sandalwood box.

Upon opening the box, a snow-white, intact porcelain sculpture was revealed. Wasn’t it the same Droplet Guanyin that Liu Weijie had brought to Liao Song’s house?

Liu Weijie was dumbfounded at this revelation, his eyes wide with astonishment as he looked at the Guanyin porcelain sculpture, unable to believe it, he stammered, “How can this be? You already—”

Smashed it, hadn’t you?

Before he could finish, Liu Weijie realized his blunder and clamped his mouth shut hurriedly, swallowing back the words that were on the tip of his tongue.

Liao Song knew exactly the unspoken part of Liu Weijie’s sentence. With a smile, he looked at Liu Weijie and said,

“Isn’t this the Droplet Guanyin you gave me a few months ago? I dare not handle such a precious antique carelessly. Since you handed it to me, I’ve kept it very safe, not a single piece has been chipped off. If you don’t believe me, feel free to inspect it yourself!”

With that, the tables were suddenly turned. Liu Weijie’s face turned a dark shade of purple, his eyes fixed angrily on Liao Song.

Gone was the previous anxious hesitation from Liao Song; instead, he looked back at Liu Weijie with a smile that was not quite a smile, his expression relaxed and at ease.

Liu Weijie was no fool; by this point, he realized that he had been played by Liao Song.

This was a trap, specifically designed for him.

If he had been content with fooling Liao Song out of five hundred thousand and stopped there, this trap would have been no use against him.

Unfortunately, the person who set the trap knew him too well, understanding that he could never satisfy his own greed. They knew he would definitely return to the Liao family’s house after learning that Liao Song had smashed the Guanyin porcelain sculpture.

Realizing he had been duped, Liu Weijie’s face instantly darkened, and he said to Liao Song with a cold voice, “Brother Liao, what is the meaning of this?”

“What meaning? I don’t have any meaning,” replied Liao Song,

with an innocent, composed face. After looking at Liu Weijie, he suddenly seemed to realize something and explained,

“Oh, there’s something you might not know—I received a porcelain sculpture on Antique Street a while back that looked almost exactly like your Droplet Guanyin.”

“I was so happy at the time that I invited a bunch of people from our circle to a party to admire it, and guess what happened?”

“That sculpture was actually identified as a very recent imitation on the spot, and it really made me furious. In a moment of anger, I smashed that Guanyin porcelain sculpture right there.”

“The collecting world these days is really a mixed bag, with all sorts of riff-raff. In the future, if I meet anyone, I really need to be more cautious. I can’t just take anyone at their word, or who knows? I might end up with another fake!”

Liao Song’s final words were a clear case of speaking about someone else to criticize Liu Weijie directly. While ostensibly talking about the fraudulent dealers on Antique Street, he was actually accusing Liu Weijie.

Liu Weijie could tell what Liao Song meant in his speech, but now that he was caught in the act, he could only submit. Even upon hearing Liao Song’s derogatory remarks, he couldn’t retort, his face turning from pale to flushed, then leaving the Liao Family home with a face as dark as iron, carrying the fake Bodhisattva with him in utter embarrassment.

Watching Liu Weijie’s hasty retreat, Liao Song snorted coldly, and Xu Deqing also spat contemptuously at the sight of Liu Weijie’s retreating figure.

There are indeed quite a few scammers in the collecting circle, but it’s impossible to catch them all at once. The excessive profits in this field are too tempting, and there will always be those who are lured by greed to engage in unscrupulous activities.

Liao Song was in a good mood after smoothly retrieving the 500,000, and he immediately called Huo Sining to explain what had happened in detail.

As Huo Sining had predicted, Liu Weijie obediently coughed up the money he had taken, bringing this matter to a close at last.

With the deceived money recovered, Liao Song was genuinely grateful to Huo Sining and insisted on thanking her in person over a meal.

Upon receiving Liao Song’s call, Huo Sining was naturally pleased, but her happiness stemmed not from how much recompense Liao Song might offer her, but from the fact that it was her first time devising a strategy for someone else that successfully resolved the issue. This proved she had the sufficient cunning and patience to outmaneuver others, rather than just being a pawn to be sacrificed.

The matter of Liao Song being cheated is concluded, but the con artist’s story is far from over.

People like Liu Weijie exploit legal loopholes, understanding the psyche of collectors and mastering the art of deceit.

Just as he baited Liao Song, during this process Liu Weijie never explicitly stated that the Guanyin porcelain sculpture was genuine, yet he managed to entice Liao Song to willingly lend him money.

After knowing that Liao Song had smashed the sculpture, he could feign innocence and offer to redeem the item with money. Had Liao Song not been prepared, he might have suffered in silence.

Even if Liao Song had gone directly to the police, the other party could have simply claimed he was duped as well, asserting that he had no knowledge the porcelain was a counterfeit, thus absolving himself of all blame.

Of course, having suffered such a massive loss, Liao Song would certainly not let things rest easily. Now that he has recovered the money, it is unlikely he would let Liu Weijie off so easily. Liao Song could very well be waiting to teach him a harsh lesson.

Moreover, Liu Weijie’s scheme, having been exposed, will soon make his name notorious within the collecting community in S City, eventually making it impossible for him to continue.

But these were no longer of concern to Huo Sining.

“You have no idea, it was like losing the chicken and the rice. That Liu Weijie looked so green,” Xu Deqing said as he reminisced about the day’s events while playing chess. He became so animated while speaking that he held his chess piece without making his move, nearly dancing with glee:

“Brave and cunning, knowing how to play the long game, level-headed in emergencies, and very capable of staying calm— that Huo Family girl is really something. It’s just a pity, why isn’t such an interesting girl my granddaughter? If she were my granddaughter…”

Watching the endlessly chattering elder Xu across from him, Lu Huairu paused with his chess piece in hand, glanced at Xu Deqing, snorted coldly, and mocked, “Your granddaughter? You’ve got those genes?”

The disdain in his voice and the contempt on his face instantly enraged Xu Deqing, who reacted like a cat with its fur standing on end. The two old men began to argue fiercely inside the pawnshop’s main hall. Yin Zeyan, who had just entered the store, stopped in his tracks, wisely touched his nose, and turned to leave that troubled spot.
