Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 215: Chapter 212: The Douyu Convention Chapter 215: Chapter 212: The Douyu Convention The Golden Lotus seeds that Huo Sining had bought from Tian Tian had sprouted without her knowing, and even grown two palm-sized leaves that floated on the surface of the water, seemingly indistinguishable from ordinary lotus leaves.

Huo Sining was doubtful about this, but Azure Pearl’s reaction couldn’t be wrong, so now she could only wait honestly for the Golden Lotus to bloom, hoping the seed wouldn’t disappoint her.

Since it was winter, Huo Sining didn’t dare to move the lotus outside and could only let it stay indoors; the heater was always on, keeping the temperature moderate, so there was no worry of the lotus freezing to death.

After pouring some silt into the bottom of the pot and sprinkling it with clear water, she then cautiously reached out her hand and slowly transferred Azure Pearl’s Spiritual Energy into the roots of the lotus.

As soon as the Spiritual Energy entered, the lotus, which looked very ordinary, began to change. The leaves trembled slightly with delight, and several new buds with a faint whiteness began to protrude slowly underneath the oval leaves, indicating it was going to spread its leaves and branch out even more.

Huo Sining hadn’t noticed at first, but when she looked again, she found that the lotus had grown two more leaves without her knowing, and the somewhat wilted leaves had become more lustrous and spirited.

She was both intrigued and pleased; it seemed that Azure Pearl’s Spiritual Energy acted like a growth hormone, promoting the growth and development of the lotus.

Huo Sining wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but when she caught a glimpse of the lotus leaves at a certain moment, she seemed to see a flash of luminescence fleeting across the petiole.

Huo Sining rubbed her eyes and looked again, but found nothing.

Huo Sining thought she had been seeing things and didn’t take it too seriously.

Time flew, and the much-anticipated S City Betta Fish Competition arrived as scheduled.

This weekend, the Ornamental Fish Appraisal and Exchange Conference was held as planned.

Early in the morning, Old Fish came with another pet fish shop owner from the same street to wait at Huo Sining’s shop.

This shop owner was also a friend in the fish hobby, who hadn’t registered for the Betta Fish Competition; he just wanted to join in the fun and support Huo Sining.

Although Huo Sining hadn’t been on Flower Bird Insect Fish Street near Chenghuang Temple for long, she managed her social interactions quite well, maintaining good relationships with the other shop owners on the street.

Moreover, if Huo Sining were indeed to claim the title of Fish King, it would be good news for the other shop owners on the street too. Once her fish became famous, the other shop owners could benefit as well, potentially boosting their business.

Therefore, many people took Huo Sining’s participation in the Betta Fish Competition seriously, showing interest and concern. Not just Old Fish, but other shop owners had also come several days earlier to inquire about it.

For the enthusiasm and blessings of these neighbors, Huo Sining gratefully accepted them all, feeling very happy in her heart—neighbors could be better than distant relatives. Although she didn’t have many family and friends, having some sincere neighbors was also nice.

Since the competition prized the quality of the fish and not their quantity, Huo Sining selected two of the most outstanding ones from the six koi and placed them in the large tank that she had bought from Antique Street.

Of course, the one selected for the large tank was the one that hadn’t been mended; the other one, since it was a bit odd, Huo Sining had Wu Jun move to the basement. She told people it was for water storage in the basement. Huang Chengyi and Wu Jun didn’t ask too many questions.

The large tank, together with half a tank of water, was anything but light. Wu Jun and Old Fish collaborated to finally get the tank onto the truck after much effort.

Seeing the two koi that Huo Sining had chosen, the fish enthusiast who had come with Old Fish had his eyes glued to them, watching the fish with infatuation and occasionally uttering phrases like “Exquisite,” “So beautiful,” “This is definitely the Fish King.”

Huo Sining wore a smile on her face, and she too was quite eager about these two fish.

Since returning from Pingzhou, she had devoted most of her energy to improving these koi, so in this period, the fish, having undergone the intense baptism of Spiritual Energy, had their bloodlines ever more purified and their sizes had increased dramatically.

Though it was only five months, the size of the two koi looked nearly identical to mature fish, and the colors, patterns, and scales on their bodies were even more vibrant than before. The white base was like jade, the red spots like blood, and the patterning clear without any imperfections.

If such fish couldn’t shine at the fish competition, then there truly would be no justice in the world.

Old Fish’s entry for the competition was also placed on the truck. This time he had a Rainbow Parrotfish. Although it was pretty and unique, parrotfishes were indeed of a lower class and might appeal to ordinary citizens attending the exhibition, but reaching the award podium could be somewhat difficult.

Four people, two cars. Old Fish and another fish enthusiast led the way in the front, while Huo Sining and Wu Jun followed behind in the light truck.

The venue for the fish competition was in the suburban area outside the city. It was located in Qingping Mountain, an area with convenient transportation and scenic beauty. At the foot of Qingping Mountain, there was a large clubhouse which had been requisitioned by the competition for the exhibition.

It took Huo Sining and her companions about half an hour to leave S City downtown and enter the mountain roads embraced by layers of lush greens, where the air suddenly felt fresher.

It was the beginning of early winter. The rising sun crested the mountain ridge, and the mountain roads were shrouded in a flowing mist. After about ten more minutes of driving, they saw an antique building. This was their destination—Qingping Pavilion.

Qingping Pavilion was a high-end clubhouse located at the foot of Qingping Mountain. As Huo Sining entered, she was taken aback by the lavish decorations inside the clubhouse. There were large pearl curtains hanging down, a crystal chandelier spiraling down from the dome, and misty hot springs water wafting on either side of the corridor…

Seeing Huo Sining looking around with a puzzled look, Old Fish explained, “This clubhouse was built by the Dongyangese. The owner is also a fish enthusiast, so he provided this clubhouse for the competition. The fish competition is held here every year.”

Huo Sining was surprised for a moment, then Old Fish added with a hint of mystery and anticipation in his eyes, “This Dongyang owner is wealthy, and what he’s most obsessed with are koi. Koi are very popular in Dongyang circles. They refer to them as ‘living jewels in the water.’ Your koi are well raised. If this Dongyang owner takes a liking to them, you might make a big profit!”

Huo Sining smiled but didn’t speak. However, her eyes held a trace of dismissal.

Others might not be aware, but Huo Sining was confident. Her two koi, after being groomed with Spiritual Energy, had already become purebred red and white koi.

Moreover, with such an attractive appearance, anyone knowledgeable would realize these two fish were treasures. Even if the Dongyang owner wasn’t interested, she wasn’t worried about not being able to sell them. There was no need for her to go out of her way to appeal to him.
